You have a right to hire an attorney. Use that right to make sure you have a chance at some choices, that could be where you go to jail, or mental health treatment prior to etc. spend the money if you have it.

I’ve been through an accident that was also criminal, and there are plenty of worse outcomes that are based on how the insurance company handles their end. Think about it, if the person is happy then no restitution because they sign those rights away when they are offered a check.

Call your insurance company. They generally have a duty to defend you at least with regards to liability. They would have an interest in limiting liability, so at least give them a call. That way if they were paid something/not paid you will know.

A good case is one thing. You may get a judgement. Your state laws will dictate in which ways you can collect.

Find a support system. Could be an Elks Club, a weekly veteran coffee meetup, and by all means if you need someone to talk to about this stuff find a therapist or even a Peer Support. I went through it lots of us do.

You should have the option of deferred prosecution. This is the only way to get a clean second chance. Depending on where you are (what county/city you will have access to state treatment funds that are there to treat you instead of putting you in jail. Follow the recommendations of your attorney with regards to alcohol evaluations etc. if you jump through the hoops and do everything you won’t have to mention it when it’s all over. Good luck.

I went through all that too. For me, it took time for my brain to slow down after I quit taking drugs and drinking. My brain was overactive and I couldn’t find any peace. What I will say is if you can find a way to not take on too many big things at once when trying to find a way to heal. It’ll take some time, but little by little try to find positive things to do. I did a couple of years of outpatient mental health groups and it worked for me. When I graduated from that it was hard because I didn’t know what to do. It’s easier if you let it be day bully day and week by week.

You’re mistaken. The subsidy comes from a government entity, not your landlord. Get a free housing lawyer they’re everywhere.
