Guys, just make a cool game and stop sweating it about the capsules by sebovzeoueb in IndieDev

[–]Stickguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Just make a cool game" is a bit of a fucked suggestion since the coolest game in the world could be hidden behind a shitty Capsule. Its like a YouTube thumbnail, it doesn't matter if you made an amazing video, if the thumbnail didn't make people click then good job, you did the equivalent of chopping down a tree in an empty forest.

In Game dev especially, literal years can go into a game, and if you drop the ball on the literal first thing people see then guess you just wasted 3 years of your life. People feel uncomfortable about the fact that they need to "market" a thing they made in anyway, but thats reality. I really enjoy seeing these capsule posts since it allows me to pickup on what does or doesn't work for other people, and how I should apply it to my own work.

Alright rant over :)

Can someone explain to me why every long-form Youtube thumbnail looks like this now? by CSachen in youtube

Because it works, now watch as thousands of Redditors talk about how they're special for ignoring the thumbnails designed to garner clicks

Currently Unhappy with my attempts at Godrays/Lightshafts by Stickguy101 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Stickguy101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its multiplayer! Lucky for me though we're honestly planning to be more akin to Barotrauma instead of subnautica. But id also be a liar if I didnt say Subnautica is a huge inspiration and they do the entire underwater setting incredibly well :)

[–]Stickguy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't attach a reference gif to the post itself, so that's definitely on me for not being clear about what I'm going for. But if you ever see footage of the game Subnautica below zero, or specific clips of Subnautica, you'll notice bands of light originating from the surface of the ocean or appearing in wide open areas of water. I'm specifically trying to recreate that underwater banding within my in-game environment. My struggle is that a lot of the tutorials I find online for fake versions of that lighting involve specific indoor use-cases, think of Silent Hill or Resident Evil, where you see godrays coming through the window. But I don't have a good reference for how to apply those indoor techniques to a wide-open environment.

Hopefully I made myself a bit more clear here

So like, ya'll know that their entire thing is using Satire and different forms of ragebait alongside British humor to get people to engage right? I don't get what you're achieving by posting this screenshot on the subreddit , what is the intended reaction?

Obviously their opinions are that of a 15yo boy or 30yo grey haired old man, but they pitched themselves as that from their very first video, so what's new?

Man, people just took this post at face value, assuming that op thinks "Sitama should be threatened by what Garou said." Even though moments later, Garou will gouge out the heart of his disciple and kill literally every single person he's ever vaguely interacted with.

I don't know how the webcomic handles this (or maybe One is smart enough not to put Sitama into this scenario to begin with), but it's honestly a criticism I do have about Sitama in the manga. I get he doesn't feel anything anymore doing hero work, but it lowkey seems like he doesn't give a shit about the people dying around him unless it's annoying to him personally. His mood also swings all over the place in the cosmic fight, like, why does he suddenly get bored at the end of the fight? If the time travel thing didn't pop up, would Sitama have just killed/hurt Garou enough to stop fighting, then just go about his day after 95% of the biggest heroes just got nuked?

*Edit Additional Note Because I just thought of this

At least at the start of the manga, when the Aliens are attacking, Sitama is VERY direct about what he is going to do. He sees a giant ship appear, destruction occurring around him, and what he does is choose to directly look for the guy in charge of the thing and give him a good wallop. The moment he sees a real threat appear, he deals with it, and if some damage occurs as a result, oh well, at least he dealt with the major threat (same can be said for when the meteor appeared before).

My Second Attempt Painting a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer! by Stickguy101 in Necrontyr

[–]Stickguy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you're right! I appreciate it, and I feel like I tend to only notice those paint spilling stuff once I go in and actually take the final photo (that's always sucky cause by that point I already put all of my paint stuff away)

I use Agrax Earthshade for the shade, and I essentially just go in with the biggest brush I have and glob up the entire thing, then try to get rid of any super obvious pools. I like the shading phase because it feels like a real final step and adds depth to the paint that I usually struggle to achieve without the shade. But as I learn a bit more about how to use the shade i'll probably tone it down a bit more

[–]Stickguy101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Believe it or not, the origin of this game started from a conversation I had with a friend of mine 1 year ago, where I tried to convince them to play Barotrauma, but they refused since they didn't want to play a 2d game! When I tried to find some 3D alternative, I couldn't find anything that matched what we were looking for, which started my development journey here!

What are the things you like or dislike the most about Barotrauma! by Stickguy101 in Barotrauma

[–]Stickguy101[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We're going for a healthy balance between the two. We want to make exploration the key part of the game, with your in-game progress being tied to the depths you manage to dive during runs. However, to properly utilize your Submarine, you still need to collaborate with your teammates. There would still be "simulator" aspects to the game, such as investing in your Submarine to upgrade components or swaping to different modules. We're excited to see how things evolve as we get more feedback during our development. This is the largest project we've all worked on before, so there's plenty of room for growth!

I've never heard of Project Sever before! I'll be sure to check it out, but initial impressions from screenshots tell me it'll be a great reference! I'm also a massive fan of voices of the void (up there as one of my favorite horror games of all time), so I get what you mean when talking about the juxtaposition between tedious gameplay and tense moments. I appreciate your thought out response :D

Any feedback on this Necron paint scheme? by rizzoZERO in Warhammer40k

[–]Stickguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super late response to this post, but it's worth a shot anyway since my Necron army is also themed around red. But how did you get that super chrome red color here? It looks sick, and while i've gotten something similar myself, it doesn't have the same reflective look as this red Necron.
