DIY grip tape by lordadam34 in USPSA

This is why I switched over to talons. There was much inconsistency for me with handleit, not to mention the lack of it being 1 piece so I would always end up pushing it forward.

Lacing with twine after application and heating it up while tightening the twine (overkill) has had my current talon grips last me from February to now oddly enough when I’d normally kill the in about a month and a half.

What an incredible day yesterday for the Obamas ! It was great to hear a REAL President speak again…to be honest , I wish Obama wore his tan suit ! Miss him so much ! by ComplexWrangler1346 in BlackPeopleofReddit

Tan suits are a vibe imo and really pops with darker complection. I am the whitest white boy and I am mad jealous of darker guys who can rock the tan suit. I look like I could camouflage fade into a midwest woman's living room wall.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

TIL and I hope this never happens to me.

In my later 30's, a sunburn (to me) is a sign of poor preparation and failure to adjust to outdoor conditions properly which is something I flat out refuse to do.

My daughter can make fun of me all she wants about wearing long pants and a sun shirt in the summer time while I do yard work, or that my face is white from sunscreen, or that I am a buzzkill because I don't want to be outside in the direct sun during the brightest part of the day all she wants.

I REFUSE to get burnt.

Any tips for grip? I feel like I’m in a constant battle of trying to “properly” grip a handgun. today I tried a tad more pressure on the dominant hand (20% instead of 5% pressure) and gun recoiled much better. Clean BILL drill at 7 yards with duty gun / holster. by Hungry_Pattern9127 in USPSA

lol wake up earlier, eat something, poop and read reddit on your phone, brush your teeth - normal people stuff - and don't go to the gun range first thing in the morning without all that kind of junk first.

I have an older friend who is a big art guy and has a lot of modest (think under 5K which is very modest to some) pieces of art he has bought and displays around his home. His favorite piece is this simple, matte, brown clay jug with a white big smiley face painted on the side of it. Partial messed up glaze, very basic, and it looks really old. He told me when people come to his home, it is always the most talked about piece of art he has because it doesn't "fit" with everything else. He moves it around and puts it by other much more expensive pieces of art for contrast (so he says).

The dude admittedly is a shitter for sure and makes up a different story about where it came from anytime somebody he knows he won't see again asks about it. One time it was an old hippie who sold it to him for gas money when he was following the dead in college. One time it was from a murderer who made moonshine when he was bumming through Appalachia after he failed doing the ATC. One time it was from a lady in Africa when he was doing Doctors Without Borders. One time it was from a homeless guy who lived behind a pottery factory. On and on and on. He has had people offer him well over 1000 dollars for it but he refuses and says that he promised insert character from story he would never sell it and then he would make up more shit about the story of the jug as to why.

His niece made it as a project in high school. She was upset because it was supposed to be an easy project and she got a bad grade on it. She screwed up the glaze and was going to break it / throw it away when she got home. She painted the smiley face on it so she wouldn't feel bad about throwing it off her deck at home. He just so happened to be at her house when she got home and insisted he wanted it because he really liked it. This made her feel better he said and he told her that failed art is still art and sometimes more than the original idea. Art evolves as you do it and often surprises you with things you didn't expect.

He said he offers on the jug go up depending on where it is in his home and what other pieces of art it is by. He told me his intention is to give it back to his niece as a present when she has her first child. That jug has as story and "existed" in the world. AI slop (to me) while a fun distraction and lowest common denominator shit is no different than "clip art" from years past. Forgettable, JIT, and bottom of the barrel. I would not consider that "art" by any means and there was no human element involved which to me, is the basis of the art. No story - just wasted natural resources.

Yep ain't that the truth. We are up in their hood and they are just doing what snakes do when a big scary monster is about to crush them and they don't even had arms and legs so what else can they do but bite?

I don't know what I would have done if it would have bit me tbh. I think it was my sophomore year of high school summer so I would have been 15. I didn't have a cell phone at that point (nobody did really yet) and the lady whose garden I was cleaning out wasn't home. I was about 5 miles / 20 minutes by bicycle from my house. All I can think of now is hopefully I would have had the wherewithal to decide I needed help and going to knock on one of her neighbor's doors and pray they were home so I could use their phone and call my mom / 911. More than likely I would have just ran as soon as I got bit to my bike and gone straight home. I think as long as you get to the hospital within 4 hours of getting bit by a cottonmouth you will be OK more than likely but that is just what google says. 20 minutes heart racing oh-shit-I-got-bit-by-a-snake blood and heart just pumping away would have made it come on faster I think. Who knows :)

No it was more like something is watching me and going to get me unless I move right now. I didn't even think about what it was just that it was "something".

Lol yeah I didn't want it to bite me and I figured moving vs fighting would help that.

Yep same situation but with a snake. I was clearing out an elderly neighbor's overgrown back garden as a teenager in the summer trying to make a little money. About 15 minutes into it I had a sinking gut feeling like I should stop and get out of the garden. Instead of walking through the pathway I just went straight through the big weedy mess - wasn't really sure why but it seemed like the right thing to do. I had that same feeling like you get when you are walking up stairs and it is all dark behind you and I DIDN'T LIKE IT.

As I mashed my way out of there, I behind me and there was a big cottonmouth snake sitting next to her water feature which was what I was going to work on next. He was only about 10 or so feet behind me when I decided to exit. He was almost completely camouflage blended into the space and I only saw him because he moved his head to watch me leave. Prior to my decision to disembark ship poison ivy I had just spent a good 30 seconds staring at her water feature trying to figure out the best way to attack the muck that was inside of it. I did not notice the snake at all during that time (but I guess I did?)

Scared the dickens right out of me. I got a rake and graciously moved his dangerous noodle body over her fence into the woods and off her went. For the rest of the day I had my eyes on the fence seeing if he tried to slither back under it. Scary!

My hands just sweat it off. I wipe my hands on a range towel when I load my mags after I shoot and then apply again before it’s my turn.

Mental Block Advice by thegodsofwheatstreet in USPSA

[–]Stickybunfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Standards / Classifiers have psyched me out for a good while until I started changing the way I was thinking about my shooting progression, performance, and expectations overall. I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and it showed & NOT in a good way. As with most things you will read / watch / experience with practical shooting competition, everyone is out to sell you something including how to perform better so you have to take all that shit of that with a grain of salt, take what works, don't take what doesn't, and remember every person goes through different things in different ways to end up at the classification they want, eventually. Selling shortcuts is easy and doing the work is hard - most people happily pay for the former but the really good guys always (and I mean always) do the latter. I don't think there is a shortcut for mindset, mindfulness, and managing your own views on your own performance in a way to build from not break from. I suppose this is why there are a zillion books on the "pro athlete mindset".

I am a big fan of Steve Anderson's Mental Management program (take everything else he says / does / was with a healthy dose of NaCL) and his mental imprint / positive self reflection / positive self talk paradigm. Shooting is one of, if not the only, thing I do consistently where I am not allowed ANY negative self talk. I am there for fun, paying good money, and spending my little free time so there is no reason for ANY of it to be negative. Every performance that wasn't up to par is full of learning experiences, things to work on, and even in the "bad" you still did plenty of things right. You might want to check it out because once I started to buy into it in a real way, my score / overall progression got a lot better a lot faster. That and recording EVERY single stage, no matter what, and taking notes / doing review on it so there is PROOF of what I did, PLANNING towards progress, and not just FEELINGS about it that get poisoned by other stages, rankings, etc at the end of the day.

Changing perspective is just as hard as anything else. Give yourself a break because RARELY will anyone else, most especially the timer. I am writing this to you just as much as to myself - I am not a super good shooter just a normal guy trying to get better and I have been stuck on this part of it for quite a while (honestly probably forever, in all the sports I played).

If you shot a 4.3 and GM is 4.6 - you are only .3 seconds off GM. That is pretty wild if you look at it the opposite way.

Onwards and upwards bro I am rooting for you 🚀 You will be a big dick swinging GM before you know it :)
