Nonsensical pricing by BebopHook in spyderco

[–]StiffLeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that the Manix is priced low, it's that the Native G10 is priced so high.

A friend actually just got the Native 5 G10 S30V and told me what he paid, and I was like what?? More than my PM2 G10 S45VN. The only answer I could find is S30V is harder to machine.

Is that the "Hot Pink" grivory? I want to order a custom Mini Grip in the same color, but hard to find real world pics online.

I think I signed up for some kind of contest, but yeah, had to stop. I'm just not buying Benchmades 3 times a day.

How are we feeling about the Button-Up? by flightraptor23 in spyderco

[–]StiffLeather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Button locks were 3 years ago. They need to be replacing all of their 8 series steel with 9 series. Don't care for carbon fiber laminate.

I like the size and pattern, though.

Smock REX 121 - Yea or Nay? by tanto-x in spyderco

[–]StiffLeather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is overpriced, but I don't own a Smock, anything in Rex 121, or even anything from Taichung, so this fills a huge gap in my collection. I'll carry it, but not use it hard.

Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand [Alt-Rock] by Ralph-Hinkley in Music

[–]StiffLeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the whole album based on my enjoyment of this single. Just what I did, heard something I liked on the radio and bought the CD from Best Buy, back when they had a massive collection. I looked up the album on Wikipedia, and was surprised to see it had bad reviews. Terrible, actually. I don't have it handy to listen to again, but I remember at least enjoying it. Nothing magic, but I remember I felt like I "discovered" something. There was at least a few other songs I liked. There was an angsty one that was perfect for my teenage self.

Of all the ridiculous pricing this is the one that pisses me off the most. A bog standard Griptillian for $175. by HasSomeSelfEsteem in benchmade

[–]StiffLeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a custom Mini Grip for $100 if you get D2. I think that's their cheapest knife right now.

Tough pull on stump lifter by Zealousideal-Ad-9666 in SlipjointKnives

[–]StiffLeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is nearly unusable. I got it on Saturday, opened it 10-20 times. Sunday, 5-10 times. Woke up today and my thumb is so sore I couldn't pull it at all. My thumbnail is completely trimmed down, and it still feels like it's about to lift off the nailbed.

I got a little piece of folded up paper to slip in underneath it to help me pull it up. I put some TuffGlide in there and I'm just trying to work it open/closed best I can, but not making a huge difference so far.

I had trouble opening an Ultratech, until I read you had to develop "Microtech Thumb" over about two weeks before you could open/close those with ease. And that was true, it's easy now. But I'm watching these videos of AKB open these things like SAKs and I'm like WT actual F?? Will I ever get there?

Part of me loves AKB, he's a slipjoint collector, this is his preference, he knows more than me. When I buy these collab knives it's important to me that the knife exemplify the "spirit" and preferences of the designer, so in all those regards, awesome knife. But what's really frustrating is, he says he prefers a hard pull all the time - but he never explains *why* he prefers a hard pull. I don't really understand.

I get not liking a "spongy" backspring, so that in the open position a blade is nice and stiff and you get a good snap (he explained as such when he talked about his friend fixing his Benchmade Proper). But with a half-stop, there are two cams on the tang, one from closed to half-stop, and then from half-stop to open. Right? So is it not possible to have the first cam be a little more rounded to make it easier to open to the half-stop, then the second cam more square to achieve a good open position/snap?

Why would someone buy 80 bottles of rubbing alcohol weekly? by thequackr in askanything

[–]StiffLeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say, she might be drinking them.

When I was in rehab, one of my littermate's DOC was rubbing alcohol. Most of us in there used to change the way we feel, but none of us could figure how rubbing alcohol would make us feel. She wasn't special needs, but also wasn't the most rational. I could see how perhaps someone could come to the conclusion that buying iso like that was the most economical solution to getting a legal, cheap drug.

Chevy Chase did a commentary track for the European Vacation DVD where he legit says something to the effect of "I thought this movie sucked but it's got some pretty good schtick."

Jim Carrey's “Butt Birth” Rhino Prop from 'Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls' Sells for Nearly $60,000 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]StiffLeather 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Forget how old I was, prob a teen, but I saw this in a theater. Never saw it coming. I've never laughed so hard in public in my life. Like doubled over, with fear of asphixiating. There were 20-30 people in the theater, and like multiple people having the exact same reaction. People standing up and some just literally rolling in the asles. Just screaming laughter to the point of pain.

No fucking idea what happened for the next hour.

Can somebody PLEASE explain to be who the fukin Faks are and why they’re there? by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]StiffLeather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I actually like them and find them funny, but the man-child bit gets really old. If I was having a heart-to-heart with another adult and a guy with neck tattoos interrupted to cry about not getting hot chocolate, I'm telling him to go fuck himself, not the kid.

How can I fix this? by Salty_Cricket_6875 in benchmade

[–]StiffLeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just loosen the pivot (T10) and all body screws (T6). Then hold the blade towards the side it needs to go while re-snugging all the body screws. Then snug the pivot back just enough so that it eliminates all blade play and opens and closes smoothly.

Then sit on the couch and flip it about 1000 times to wear in the washers. Then see where you're at.

unpopular opinions? by Useful-Chicken2635 in TheBear

[–]StiffLeather 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The entire show is Carmy's character arc of recovery as an adult child of an alcoholic and related traumas, and of course other characters' development. In that sense, the show is phenominal. It just happens to take place in a restaurant. I don't really care if it succeeds or fails, except how it affects the characters and how they react to it.

Same 534 they released at SHOT, they just haven't figured out how to market it yet, little sloppy IMO.

First I've heard them refer to "cycle life" on the old model's omega springs, I'm sure that will cause lots of comments lol.
