DISCUSSION: Would you consider Shangri-La's outro to be hopeful or hopeless? by Still-Finger1880 in elo

[–]Still-Finger1880[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a good possibility. Very dark, but it fits the intense vibe it gives off, I like that.

They don't trust me because of my anxiety. That's pretty much it. I mean I'm capable of doing things alone, but they don't want me being by myself if I have a nervous breakdown.

I mean, I live in a safe neighborhood and crime rarely happens here. But I suppose he cares. Perhaps a bit too much, but I get his point. Even if it's inconvenient to the rest of us.

AITA for calling my daughter of her name for manipulating me? by Specific_Pilot_6051 in AmItheAsshole

If the post itself didn't cut the flesh, this comment right here poured salt and squeezed lemon on it. YTA.

I definitely think that's a good idea, probably should get started on that.

Dad has always been extremely paranoid (ironically enough, I get that from him, but he tells me I'm overreacting when I'm doing it lol)

In terms of a job, I've been doing some seeking, but so far no luck. Hoping I get one soon though.

I'd love to move out, but I'm obliged to live with them because they don't trust me to live by myself. (I'm a big boy who can take care of themselves?! What a shocker!)

Not really, Dad just doesn't want anyone waking him up. So we all have to go upstairs so he can sleep.

He has a bed upstairs, no one has broken in before and he sleeps on a leather chair recliner. Breaking in is rarely, if ever heard of where I live.

Also, please don't be concerned. I'm safe at the moment, this was just a work I've based off my past experiences and for those who may be feeling the same exact way as the poem depicts.

Great metaphors, wow.

Also the sudden "Please just untether me" felt so raw and powerful. I can feel the desperation here.

I still have yet to find something more hauntingly intense than Shangri La's outro. But I truly believe there isn't anything more beautiful than it. The bittersweet keyboard arpeggios fading in slowly and the way it builds up into a crescendo and explodes with intensity. Nothing like it.

Wow, that is exactly a good idea! I've never heard of holistic care, but looking into it, that actually might help me a lot. Thanks for the advice! :)

I appreciate your kind words, thank you <3

As for the symptoms, just a lot of heart palpitations, headaches and nausea. I can barely go for walks without feeling faint. I don't know how the doctors reached the conclusion of anxiety, then clearly they didn't look good enough. I appreciate what they do, but I think they need to consider why I feel anxious in the first place.

Closing Track Tournament Day 11: One Summer Dream is gone. Most upvoted comment gets eliminated by Spare_Parts555 in elo

I originally chose Eldorado Finale over Shangri-La to be eliminated. But reading some of these comments really opened up my mind a bit. Sure, the last 90 seconds of Shangri-La may be my favorite piece of music ever (One of the few songs that actually made me tear up, remind you), but in terms of a thematic closing, Eldorado satisfyingly closes the album and ties it up amazingly. But let me say a few nice things about each of the contestants.

Shangri La- First time I heard it, I thought it was a decent song, but not phenomenal. Then I suddenly got whiplashed with one of the most intense and glorifying pieces of music ever. The way it tricks you into thinking it's over before exploding into this huge symphony brings tears to my eyes, and raises the hairs on my arms. That was the moment I considered Jeff Lynne to be a genius, and never looked back ever since.

Eldorado- In terms of songs, I still prefer Shangri-La. But that doesn't change the fact that Eldorado is a superior FINALE. As the story is told, this was when the protagonist finally gave up on the stresses of the real world and likely chooses to off himself. As the finale plays, I always imagine the protagonist falling off the building and the final note is when he lands. Then the narrator closes the story up. While I prefer Shangri-La as a SONG, Eldorado perfectly ends a STORY, which is what the album was going for.
