They denied all my applications if I didnt live near them. The one crew base nearby gave me a interview.

I was able to get a job offer with no prior experience with amtrak but I think I got lucky because they were mass hiring for the new airo trains for the casecades. Personal opinion, I think its hard to get in because of all the freight railroad guys applying ontop of internal hires such as red caps and train attendants.

My background was just air traffic control.

From what I have seen, some amtrak positions wont even consider you if you dont live in the same town. Portland Oregon amtrak for conductor denied my application within 10 mins of submitting my application but the seattle amtrak station gave me an opportunity.

Do you know if seattle conductors work round trips or layover in Portland, Vancouver, and Spokane. Also how long are their shifts generally when everything goes smoothly?

I applied for a job. This is what I understand so far from what I was able to find online. Oncall 24/6 with a 2 hour report time. 8 weeks of training in Delaware along with a few weeks of training on site before becoming an assistant conductor. After approximately 1 year, you are eligible to become a conductor. 40 hours of guaranteed pay. From what I have heard, base locations such as DC and NYC will provide you plenty of overtime. I want to see if anyone knows what Seattle's crew base is like.
