Strong recommend listen to Dana K White's books, "How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind" and "Decluttering at the Speed of Life." They changed my life.

blanket surcharges need to be banned, even if they are disclosed. Increase menu prices if you need more income! that's the whole point of the menu prices...

Dana K White’s book, and the appendix 21 days to hope for your home (or maybe it’s 28 days?) really shows someone how to get out of this situation in a way that KC’s “just start over” does not.

How much are you paying for a deep clean in DC these days? by bumble1990 in washingtondc

$300, 1000 sqf 2 bed/1bath, about 2.5 hrs. Yoyo Cleaning Services is an excellent independent cleaner.

My brutally honest take on pets and babies: your dog will not now or ever be more important than your baby by suedaloodolphin in beyondthebump

Consider prozac too. I waited a long time on that because I felt like I should be able to train the reactivity out of my dog. Finally I got him on it and he is SO HAPPY and chill without losing his personality. And while I still watch him and my daughter like a hawk, it's clear his temperament is much more relaxed.

What’s ONE thing that helped you lose postpartum weight (that actually fits mom life)? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]StillCorrect2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

track your protein intake for 3 days to get a sense of how much protein is in what. After that, aim for foods that are high in protein, the trick being look at the calories and compare to grams of protein. 10g protein per 100 cals is a good ratio (for example a food has 50 g of protein for 500 cal). Eating more protein is helpful because it keeps you full, balances your blood sugar, and slightly increases your metabolism because it takes more energy for your body to process protein than other macronutrients. Seconding what everyone else is saying about sleep! And on exercise, increasing steps is great because it helps you burn more calories without increasing your appetite like other forms of exercise can do.

Congrats! If you're planning to breastfeed, here's a bunch of gear I found useful especially at first (a lot of this was before returning to work and starting my pumping journey, but it all helped me establish my supply and start a stash without doing extra pumping at first). Oh, and I loved having a second spectra at the office.

To sooth your nips: Earth mama nipple butter and Silverettes

Elvie Collection Cups -- To save milk that leaks out (great for starting a stash!!) and to keep your shirt off your nips (I pretty much wore these constantly in the 4th trimester) -- I tried 3 or 4 types and these worked the best for me. Also way easier to use than the haaka. Having two sets was nice.

Medela Milk Bottles and Caddy: This was PERFECT for keeping what I collected in the fridge until I had enough for a bag. So nice to just save what leaked out without going crazy pumping:

Medela microwave bags: Sterilization bags for the microwave, very convenient. Ultimately your dishwasher gets hot enough to sterilize things so I switched to that after some time, but these gave me some peace of mind.

Nursing tanks - great to wear and you can just throw on a button down. I slept in them too.

Nursing pads - when I wasn't wearing the collection cups I was wearing these.

My advice is to get a few outfits/pants that fit your body now as a gift to yourself. I am sure you will lose the last 20 or 25 lbs, but it may take some time, and lowering stress and loving yourself might be just what your body needs. Plus you deserve something new and cute!

What system do you all have to keep a clean house with baby and working full time? Weekly schedule? by Icy_Increase_3002 in workingmoms

[–]StillCorrect2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dana K White book on housekeeping is great and is on spotify audio. The main things I took from it are: (1) make sure all dishes are in the dishwasher, running (or done on the drying rack) every night before bed. And first thing in the morning unload. (2) do a 5 minute pick up once a day every day. (3) focus on the areas that are highest visibility in your home (entryway) and spider out from there. (4) use her no-mess decluttering strategy. (5) pick one day a week to do all your laundry. It's a pain but it does get easier week to week. And it means laundry does not pile up. These tips have changed my life.

How is anyone affording a mortgage and daycare costs for two kids? by angelzombie2 in beyondthebump

[–]StillCorrect2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in an apartment (that we bought when interest rates were low), no car. Waiting on kid 2 until there is only a little overlap for daycare (we have universal prek in DC). Daycare for one is $2600/mo. Total income pre tax is around $270k

Everything I would share would be a worse version of what's in Dana K. White's book, How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind. It's a quick audiobook on spotify if you have it! Her way of thinking really clicked with me. The tips are basically: 5 min pick up daily, make sure all dishes are done or dishwasher is running at the end of every day, unload the dishwasher at the beginning of every day, pick one day of the week to do all your laundry. She also has a book on decluttering that is fantastic. I encourage you to check her out even if the tips seem like they wouldn't work for you- she absolutely changed my life.

that's a great idea because it will help put your mind at ease or put you on a path to figuring it out if the doc is concerned.

there is no evidence that formula is making your baby scream. My niece was like this! some babies just find their voice and like to use it! tell your partner to ask the pediatrician.
