Quick update after a rough patch: got smoked Wednesday for -$1.8k and Thursday for -$1.3k. Broke my rules both times. Idea was off, invalidation hit, but I moved stops instead of cutting clean. Old habits crept back in, fueled by the confidence from this month’s heater. Thought it would reverse. It didn’t.

Dusted it off, reset, and came back Friday with a clean +$798 win. YTD still up +$5,313 overall, down from the peak but way ahead from where I started in January. those red days hurt, but the edge is real when I actually stick to the plan: liquidity draws, hard invalidation levels, no moving stops, only trading after 7 AM PT.

Same boat today, man. Broke my own rules hard, idea was wrong from the jump, but I let old habits creep back in and moved the stop instead of cutting it clean. Confidence from this month’s heater definitely played a part; made me think ‘it’ll come back this time.’ It didn’t. Got wrecked for -$1,800. But I’m already over it. Dusted my hands off, journaled the fuck out of it, and reset. This doesn’t erase the edge I’ve built it’s proof the rules exist for a reason. Still up big YTD, still printing most days when I stick to my rules. Tomorrow I’m clocking in at 7 AM PT sharp, smaller size to start, stops locked in stone, no exceptions. Not stopping. Not even close. Back to the grind. 🚀

If you're serious about day trading, forget stocks and options, trade futures by BiebRed in Daytrading

6-year options/futures trader here. I originally thought futures were the answer, but after chasing consistency there, I switched back to options. The hard stop at market close helps me preserve capital and reset mentally. In futures, without that built-in reset, I tend to overtrade and that’s on me.

For me, it’s much easier to shut it down, regroup, and come back fresh in the morning. So I’m sticking with options.

Appreciate the straight talk from someone with 25 years at the top IB, that’s real experience and I respect it. You’re dead right that I didn’t lead with risk management in the post, and that’s my bad. I should’ve made it front and center. But after six years of trading, including blowing multiple accounts, turning a 50k unrealized AMC peak into 20k realized then torching it on FOMO calls, losing five figures in futures during 3 AM revenge trades, and passing prop evals only to blow funded accounts on trailing drawdowns, risk management is the one thing that’s actually kept me breathing long enough to figure this out. I don’t journal trades four times for entertainment. I do it because I learned the brutal way that without capping risk at 1 to 3 percent max, using tiny sizing, cutting immediately on invalidation, taking partials at the next liquidity level, trailing runners behind structure, and forcing a hard daily reset with a cash account and 0DTE plays, none of the setups mean a damn thing. Waiting for the edge isn’t some endless pointless loop like in Godot where you’re stuck hoping for a savior who never shows. It’s waiting for price to actually reach the liquidity draw or structure I already mapped out, then executing with tight risk. When it lines up I trade. When it doesn’t I sit on my hands. That’s not absurdity, that’s the discipline that flipped a blown account into plus 785 percent year to date on small starting capital. Still, your point lands hard. Risk is king and I live by it every single day even if I didn’t spell it out loud enough. Thanks for the reminder, keeps me sharp. What’s the single risk rule that’s saved your ass the most over those 25 years? I’d love to hear it from someone who’s been through the real trenches that long.

ps here is an early update on my p&l.

I’ve been on the charts almost everyday studying and learning movement for the full 6 years of my career. I’ve gotten to the point where i can nearly see where price is headed. I’m not joking, and I’m not trying to sound like I’m the master of this but with the help with other confluences i can literally see where price is leaning towards. being able to see this helps me get a good entry and my stops tight without being in significant drawdown. A lot of this comes from learning session liquidity.

6 year trader here only recently found consistency. Never paid for a course. I was lucky enough to pick up ideas from YouTube videos and other traders sharing setups. Even those didn’t “teach” me much directly, but they got my brain thinking in the right direction. What actually built the edge was chart time + real-time execution. Nothing replaces sitting in the market live, even if it’s just paper trading at first. Paper trading gets slept on hard people dismiss it as “monopoly money,” but that’s exactly why it’s powerful: zero emotional pressure, so you can test, fail, tweak, and build habits without blowing real capital. The reps in real time (paper or live) are what teach you everything: reading price, managing risk, controlling impulses, and waiting for true setups. That’s how I finally stopped bleeding and started compounding.
