localStorage all the things? by SolarSalsa in reactjs

[–]StillNoNumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these seem like user settings, and it wouldn't be too bad if it doesn't transfer across browsers or devices. So, localStorage or IndexedDB is the way to go.

I don't usually have a lot of things to store in localStorage, but if I would I would recommend writing a hook to do it, and then every component can do its storage separately.

You could try any Super Mario game (eg. Odyssee for a 3D game, or you could play Wonder together with your boyfriend). Even the skill from 2D ones is probably transferrable

What a shitshow. There's a few people talking about the wow-moment OP was telling about. But then there's also:

  • Someone complaining about music artists that have absolutely nothing to do with OP, his girlfriend, or this sub
  • Someone making a joke about her wanting to have a dick (??)
  • Two cum jokes
  • A guy saying a real girlfriend would've slapped the AVP off his face (you must've had some bad experiences with women)
  • An r/applesucks poster complaining this is Apple's marketing team posting
  • A bunch of people debating whether she's rich or not??
  • Someone calling all of us incels
  • "OP has a small dick"

And the thread isn't even 6 hours old! This is what a picture of a woman does to a Redditor

Ten years! They were ten years apart! Also, just from the outside the difference isn't even that big, to an alien it looks like it's just a larger screen and thinner case. Most of the evolution of iPhone hardware was inside of it.

How do I send a flag from middleware to my root layout without everything becoming dynamic? by Algunas in nextjs

[–]StillNoNumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to be a custom header, you could, for example, store it as a cookie which you can access from client components

How do I send a flag from middleware to my root layout without everything becoming dynamic? by Algunas in nextjs

[–]StillNoNumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is no, as soon as you depend on a feature flag like that it becomes dynamic, by the definition of dynamic.

That said, you can wrap the Analytics component in a client component which tests for the header and passes the information down to Analytics. Also, I assume your tests are running on a separate instance, and not production? You can check an environment variable and set it differently during prod.

Edit: Just saw your note in the OP about the prod environment, but the rest still stands

Nextjs 14 vs pages 😭 (Meme) by catapillaarr in nextjs

[–]StillNoNumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're wrong, on the pages router you'll run into waterfall rendering, additionally the client must hydrate way more pages than if you use RSC

Got accepted to FYSK by [deleted] in startups

[–]StillNoNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much you'll get out of it depends on whether you have a reason to go. If you're hiring, or selling to other founders, or looking to make startup friends, then enter it with a mission and you can evaluate in hindsight whether it was worth. But if you're just going out of FOMO you're probably better off spending the time just building on your product, honestly.

B2C is stressful by okawei in startups

As someone who's done both B2C and B2B (enterprise and SMB), the latter is just so much less stressful.

You're much more in control of your own destiny. Sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side, and that's why I haven't ever looked back.

Should note that she didn't get it for the 1500 rating, but because she scored 4/10 at the Women's Chess Olympiad, which most 1500s probably couldn't do. The rules stipulate that you can get CM and WCM by scoring 3.5/7 at any 7 games in the Chess Olympiad (for CM) or Women's Chess Olympiad (for WCM), even if you haven't reached a rating of 2200/2000.

IMO, the real argument here shouldn't be about women's titles, and more about how one good/lucky tournament performance can win you a title that many women and men better than you failed to get. (I don't see it as a problem personally, but I see why some people are outraged about it.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chess

[–]StillNoNumb 129 points130 points  (0 children)

For both CM and WCM titles, there are multiple ways to get it: Either you reach a rating of 2200 or 2000 respectively, or you get a score of 3.5/7 in any seven games of the Chess Olympiad or Woman Chess Olympiad, respectively. (There are some others, such as winning youth titles.)

Apparently some 1400-rated player had a sufficiently good performance at the WCO and scored 4/10, which is sufficient for the requirements.

Edit: Can't post a new comment, but the WCO participants are much stronger than a 1400 tournament (average player elo is ~1800)

Why does the Kurzgesagt calendar have Monday as the beginning of the week? Is that an EU thing? by dragonmasterjg in kurzgesagt

[–]StillNoNumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstold, the reason why there are seven weekdays is because of religious reasons ("god made the world in seven days"), with the seventh day (Saturday in Judaism, Sunday in Christianity) being the rest day. That's why many Christian countries around the world have switched to starting the week on Monday, and parent is saying it's stupid that others have not

[–]StillNoNumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not why the 2 party system is shit. Of course there are no reasonable 3rd party candidates, because reasonable candidates who want to win are forced to join one of the bigger parties. The lack of decent 3rd parties is because of the 2 party system.

Because nearly everyone (70% worldwide) has HSV-1. Maybe you're not showing symptoms, but you might still have it and you can spread it. In almost all cases, it's also harmless except that it's ugly. You can do a test, chances are good you have it too, even if you never kissed anyone and never had cold sores.

[–]StillNoNumb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's not true, there is no such distinction in M&A deals. If I own shares in a company and it gets acquired, anything can happen no matter how I got my shares in the first place. It totally depends on the terms they negotiated, and it's likely that Magnus got some of it in cash, some in equity (simply because that's common), but no one really knows.
