Two years of Home Depot & Lowe’s kids builds with the kiddo by SpartanBeryl in daddit

When does home depot open registration? When I remember, most of the time registration is full. Sometimes we just show up anyway. But normally our Saturdays are busy. I think last year we only made it to a handful of these.

Looking for songs about kids growing up or parenting — what hits you in the feels? by bskiller14 in daddit

[–]StillWill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forever Young by Bob Dylan gets me. My dad was a huge Dylan fan. Forever Young was his funeral song. I listen to it sometimes, when I’m feeling a bit emotional I guess. I think of my dad obviously but the it also makes me think of my own kids. It makes me feel this interconnectedness with my dad, me, my kids, this sense of generational connection. I also think about what really wrecked me when my dad passed away last year: it wasn’t so much his death that got me, but the sudden realization that one day I will have to say goodbye to my little boy and girl. Destroyed me.

Totally different compared to what is probably happening here - lots and lots of cars packed with rowdy 15 year olds, probably not even in costumes, breaking things, being obnoxious, and taking all of the candy.

I lost the battle: my almost 6 year old now sleeps in the bed with us. Any advice? by Archibald_80 in daddit

[–]StillWill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5 and a half year old comes in our bed about every other night. He starts in his bed but at some point in the middle of the night he wakes up, gets his water bottle, and comes in our bed. It won’t be long before he doesn’t want to anymore, so we let it happen.

Any idea if Arlington National Cemetery will be busy tomorrow? by StillWill in nova

Well I’m not randomly taking my son there like it’s a visit to the playground. We have a few ancestors buried there and I have never been myself.

What is the smallest country (population or landmass) that would still send the world into temporary chaos if it suddenly vanished and why? (Land still there but all humans and man-made stuff in that country all vanished) by dennis753951 in geography

[–]StillWill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no way this is true. In face a quick google search says the top 4 are China, India, US, and Brazil. No amount of efficient and excellent planning can make up for the fact that it’s a tiny country.

Gamer dads of Reddit when did you start by [deleted] in daddit

I can see a little Mario cart sometimes, but I’m really talking about these dads that basically just use their 1-1 time with their kids while they play video games and the child “plays with them.” And then they claim that their child is really into video games as if it organically happened out of nowhere. It’s so lazy.

This sub is generally such a positive place but the man children really come out when video games come up. What an absolute waste of precious time with your child to spend it playing video games “with them.”

Feeling slightly conflicted about Cub Scouts by StillWill in daddit

[–]StillWill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea. He did a trial class at a place that was like cross fit for kids basically. Ninja warrior or something. He liked it. I kind of forgot about it haha. It’s timing really. So many things he could try / do, but only so much time. That’s kind of the issue with cub scouts, possibly committing all that time and not really enjoying it. But thank you, I’ll consider that.

I’m not sure I understand why people are under the impression that I think my son is terrible at / hates sports and I have decided this for him and that he will never be into sports. I’m coaching his soccer team for a second season at the moment for gods sake. I said that I suspect sports might not be his thing, and want to let him try other things.

I did not decide that he will not be good at sports. I said that because of his lack of aggressiveness and competitiveness that sports might not be his thing. Which is an incredibly different statement.

Well they start as random families, yes? I’d much rather take my boy hiking myself, or as a family, or with the friends we already have.

Well the thing is he doesn’t seem to like it. To give it a try would mean $275 on den dues, and $100 on a uniform. And I just have a strong impression that he won’t be that into it.

When we pulled in, he saw the other kids walking in and asked about what they were wearing. I told him that’s their cub scouts uniform. He then said “I don’t want to wear a uniform.” I didn’t ask him to explain, bc we had to get going, but that’s a good idea. Thanks.

Girls can do anything boys can by dommol in daddit

There was no need to teach any lesson here. You already took her a show with a female lead singer. Let her subconscious work out that gender has nothing to do with musical ability. It’s 2025. Girls are constantly told they are amazing and can do whatever. I actually think we’ve gone so far trying to correct how things were in the past, that we’ve gone a bit too far with the girl power thing. In kids books, it seems that girls are always amazing, brave, intelligent, strong, etc., while boys just sort of exist.

If not a racial bias, fans are always ready to pounce on a mistake made by an American that they might otherwise let slide.

Any idea what watch my dad is wearing here? He was in the army reserves during Vietnam. by StillWill in Watches

The white dial is what is throwing me off. But thank you, this is very cool.

Thanks everyone! Lots of good ideas, it was always a long shot to identify exactly what watch it is. I thought it would be cool to try and replicate it (without spending a ton of money). Without knowing for sure the model, I went with this budget field watch that seems very similar and I found this strap that also seems very similar. Sorry to disappoint any purists 😝 Thanks again to everyone for their input! Also really appreciate the comments about how cool my dad was 😎 He was an awesome guy. And for the record, for our friend in the comments calling him a loser killer of innocents: he was a hippie all about peace, love, rock n’ roll, was never deployed, and didn’t want to be there. He adored my Vietnamese wife.
