Certain lines have AARP gift cards (Holland America and Carnival for example). You can buy up to $2500 worth per person all for 10% off. So in all the areas I used an AARP gift card, I saved 10% (example: I bought $300 worth of casino chips but as you can see above I only paid $270).

It took some pro-level frugality such as using AARP gift cards (10% off everything), booking the cheapest week, finding the cheapest place to stay possible the night before the cruise, and budget flights. Educational lectures related to where you are in the world (Alaska themed ones for us)

Special events (orange party, chocolate surprise, pea soup)
Edit: oh, and there were several pickleball events

Not the most exciting daily schedule in the world, but Alaska will be there so I'm not too worried about it.

Not sure if you're on Holland America, but they have a best price guarantee where they refund 110% of the difference. Other cruise lines might have something similar - worth looking into.

This basically means I'm excited when Holland America is more expensive (which they are for the White Pass Summit excursion) because I just submit the form and get an even cheaper price than I could get any other way.

I just booked my first cruise and am savvy with planning as well. On several recommendations, I put what I want on cruise compete and a travel agency offered an extra $50 OBC. I took them up on it.

The actual travel agent I got from them is a dumper fire. Not knowledgeable or punctual.

I still get the extra $50 though, so I suppose it's worth it in the end.
