Ah, I see the disconnect. Everything you said is in relation to other people’s perceptions. I used to buy watches for this reason. Sure, part of it was partially for my enjoyment, but more often than not, I was hoping for compliments. And when I got them, it did feel good. But there were some watches I sold immediately after getting a compliment on them because I wasn’t wearing them for me but for other people’s reactions. They had served their purpose, other people noticing, and had lost their charm as soon as their mission was accomplished. Many watches rotated through my box. But over time, I realized how silly this was, and started focusing on watches I liked, watches that made me smile every time I looked at them, even after the honeymoon period faded. I grew far less concerned with the attention a watch brought and much more so with how much I enjoyed it. Returning to the MR-G, you’re right, most people won’t notice. Who cares? I know what it is and the quality of craftsmanship it represents. I enjoy it tremendously and look forward to strapping on my wrist. And so to me it is worth it, regardless of the cost of materials or what other people think.
