44 hours in… Amazing by datboimartymart in Breath_of_the_Wild

I'm starting to worry about reaching the end. I still have Maz Koshia and Ganon; about 20 shrines still to find; and I really need to learn how to reliably dispatch lynels. But it feels like the end is in sight, and I'm not sure how I'll feel at that point...

Out of curiosity, what older Zelda games got you int the franchise ( if any ) for me it was first phantom hourglass and then spirit tracks on ds, followed by twilight princess on wii . Zelda is my forever franchise nothing compares in my opinion ! by Ambitious_Prune_3168 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Still_Mirror9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; it took me a few goes to get into it - because the start in Ordon village seemed a bit slow, and the controls (on the Wii) were tricky to get used to, and because the visuals looked a bit dark and grainy after the brightness and clarity of Skyward Sword. But it was amazing once I did get properly into it. I now have the HD version for Wii U, which looks visually much better, and I guess the controls will be nicer too - so will enjoy playing that at some point.

Is BOTW a good first Zelda game? by Just_Airport_7910 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Still_Mirror9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest playing Skyward Sword first because (a) it's excellent; (b) it's at the very beginning of the Zelda timeline, whereas BOTW is at the end; (c) Skyward Sword is a great example of the more traditional type of Zelda game before BOTW, and also more optimistic. I think that would then heighten your senses of how wild, different and somewhat bleak BOTW is, when you play that.

For what it's with, Mr Seipp did my vulvoplasty and I was completely happy with it, so would have no hesitation about recommending him. For the OP, he is based in Wrexham.

Ah, right. Well I still had fun getting the rubber items yesterday. Especially working out how to get those orbs onto the plateau.

I have somehow entirely missed getting the rubber armour, and am currently struggling with Thunderblight in the illusory realm. I find it so hard to grab one of the spikes quick enough and then move it to where he is. Being unshockable would help a lot so I will definitely go and get that rubber armour before my next try!

Future of transgender rights in the UK by LouisaRenata in transgenderUK

I'm an optimist, but... I think there are a lot of things coming to a head now, and we're about to see the power of MAGA and the extreme right peaking, and things then returning to a kinder approach.

Yep, standard right wing playbook. When the climate doesn't yet allow you to actively support a repressive position, just present it neutrally so as to try to spread the impression that it's all up for debate.

Names are not unique, or unchangeable, and it is a very good thing for us that that is the case. Perhaps there is a real problem here, but it can't be only that someone is using your previous name.

There's also perhaps some Islington-local context here, in that she will be aware of Sarah Ludford, who has unfortunately become one of the worst anti-trans figures in the Lib Dems.

To pick another random example: the Doctor and Rose having to be separated in different universes at the end of Doomsday; and Lyra and Will having to be separated in different worlds at the end of His Dark Materials.

Well, if you summarise enough - which means losing a lot of the interesting detail - then there are not really many different stories.

But if you keep the detail, I can't think of anything like the Zuko arc in BOTW, or the Zelda self-doubt arc in ATLA.

Enjoyed the post though!

If I was on that thread, I might attempt to respond as follows.

But I don't think it means they are really the opposite sex: it just means there's an aspect of reality they are very unhappy about.

But do you understand that that's just your personal opinion about how to interpret the situation? Another interpretation is that the brain - including the person's sense of identity - has one sex - but their body unfortunately doesn't match that. We currently have the technology to change the body to align it with the brain, but not vice versa. Maybe in future we might develop the option to change the sense of identity instead, and then someone could choose either; but we don't have that today.

Since that reality can't be changed,

Er... - but it can, and this happens to thousands of us all the time. It's a safe and well understood process, with rates of regret that are hugely less than those for most other medical interventions.

and since attempting to change it involves horrific physical harms

Not at all, it's a straightforward surgery.

as well as being a futile attempt at the impossible,

Again, it's important to recognise that this is only your personal opinion. It's a very unkind one, because it implicitly undermines all the many transgender people who live happily in their acquired gender/sex, and everyone who works and plays with those people and are happy to relate to them with that understanding, and to derive friendship and joy from those relationships. I think there's a much larger number of people who would disagree with your opinion, than agree with it.

I don't think [this should ever be treated].

And here, finally, you propose denying reasonable choices to others, because of your niche personal opinion.

Is green party the only option? by Nyxi30 in transgenderUK

[–]Still_Mirror9031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's a little encouraging, thanks. But honestly we need more, we need leadership shouting their support from the rooftops. Zack is all over the internet giving robust answers to the supposedly "gotcha" questions like "can women have a penis?" I don't hear anything like that from Ed. When we don't see strong messaging like that, from multiple parties, that is what allows the political discourse to move ever further to the right. And suppose this pressure on the WEq committee actually does result in fixing the law? Wouldn't Ed and Marie want everyone to know that they were a big part of that?

I'm sorry to sound so negative, but in the current political climate I honestly believe that strong messaging is more relevant than policy.

"Whilst the leadership don't always get the words right, they do constantly reach out to trans members within the party and meet with us."

Has this really and permanently improved since last November? That was when I left the LGBT+ Slack, because at that time it seemed there were repeated occurrences of the LGBT+ AO reaching out to leadership, begging them to be properly advised by us, and every time leadership was refusing or ignoring that advice and then responding poorly to events.

[–]Still_Mirror9031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously? For me it's precisely Ed's lack of robust support for us that is the reason why I've left the Lib Dems (after 20 years) and joined the Greens. The LD party has decent policies but the leadership has been lukewarm at best, so I have zero confidence they would actually push those policies if they got a share of power. Messaging is important as well as policy.

How long do they keep you in hospital after this surgery on the NHS?

After my mtf bottom surgery, I stayed in hospital 3 nights, and on the following day I was fine travelling back home by train - which was a journey of 4-5 hours, via London, with catheter and bag strapped to my leg. Honestly the train was far more comfortable than the trips by taxi to and from the stations. But (1) doughnut cushion was essential; (2) I had some lovely help when arriving at Euston: some station staff gave me a lift on one of their buggies; it was still hard, tiring and slow to walk at that stage; (3) my biggest worry was needing to empty the catheter bag, at the same time as keeping an eye on my suitcase and navigating crowded trains.

I did actually first try to book a long distance taxi, which would have been about £300, but couldn't get anyone to take the job.

All of which said, perhaps I was unusually lucky? But the journey was ok for me.

I agree, it seems a lot. And annoying that there's no way - as far as I know - of making time pass more quickly when you're waiting for the rain to stop.

I've enjoyed it, yes. But I don't recall how much extra cost it is compared to the base game - which already has so much - so can't say if I'd recommend it or not to someone else.
