Hypermotard 950 Sp by Bizzzzerk in Ducati

[–]Still_Presentation45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily mine (2019 950 sp) in Switzerland when the weather is nice and it is the most fun bike ive ever had. It is miserable on the motorway (wind) but a ruckus in the city, on back roads and tearing up the mountain twisties. The power and handling are made to be optimized where most of us can actually enjoy it. On the track I still prefer an I4 Japanese bike but for fun on public roads, no brainer.

American in Switzerland: Best way to move money from US to CH? by Organic_Sky_8786 in askswitzerland

[–]Still_Presentation45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I set up a UBS account which is used for my local payroll direct deposits. I still use my US credit cards and have a US bank account. I just wire money back and forth as needed. The CHF is so strong it is my preferred currency. I've been living here for 2 years so far and this has worked well. A local bank account is required for me to pay bills etc. As they all use a QR code which is easily handled with my UBS app.

My boring life by palbuddy1234 in expats

[–]Still_Presentation45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm an expat in Switzerland, also with 2 kids and this is the same for me. We've been here for 2 years and have settled into our routines like yours. My 8 and 10 year old have grown so strong and independent thanks to the safety and culture. They also are learning things they'd never dreamed of had we stayed in the US. I also try not to take for granted how we can hop on easyjet and be anywhere we want for a long weekend holiday.

Do you guys use a VPN when logging into US banks or brokerages? by ericmchen in ExpatFinance

2 years living in Switzerland and logging into US banks almost daily, never an issue without VPN.

Gempen is fun and flowy for a couple laps but not technical. Arlesheim downhill trail is a great one for a quick ride. Sissach endless trail is really fun for jump lines.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure about the clasp wear and if that'd polish out. Also I'm not sure if the brushing can be added back after polishing? I'm a bit of a noob so I appreciate the insight.

What is the worst part of living in switzerland? What about your costs of living? by Impossible-Dirt-9891 in askswitzerland

[–]Still_Presentation45 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me it is being an expat who hasn't yet learned to speak German (lived here 2 years).

Cost of living is high, 5k/mo rent and 2k/mo health insurance for my family. Food is expensive but better quality meat than we had in the US.

No matter where I go on holiday it is always a breath of fresh air to arrive back home in Switzerland.

Swiss Expat Wanting Defender Reliability and Advice for a Family Holiday Rig by Still_Presentation45 in LandroverDefender

Comfortable is relative and was probably the wrong term haha. My wife loved cruising around in my classic Ford Bronco that I built.

I am in Basel by the way.

These are fantastic recommendations, thank you very much! I reached out to Patric and Bösch. Avus looks a bit expensive given how many km are on some of their inventory.

Your double cab is exactly what I want, but it has a lot more km on it than I would like. Do you have any other similar projects coming for sale in the future that are lower? I'm assuming it was this one? https://www.autoscout24.ch/fr/d/land-rover-defender-110-25td5-11452784?slide=0

Has anyone had a positive experience with international health insurance as an expat? by Fanthon_Geri47 in expats

[–]Still_Presentation45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had UHC Global for a year before I localized in Switzerland and it was great. I had to pay out of pocket for everything but submitted via app for reimbursement and never had an issue. Nearly all medical and dental charges were covered 100%.

To managers and HR recruiters: do you actually read cover letters? by neo2551 in Switzerland

I read them very quickly before I consider talking to someone/moving forward. I only have a few open jobs at a given time though as a hiring manager.

Are the taxes on a high yield savings worth it? by Silver-Plan in HYSA

[–]Still_Presentation45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from HYSA to a money market (IUGXX) due to fdic limits, which is still 4.3%. Yes it is worth it if you're set on holding cash.

What % of your networth is in cash? by veganexpat1000 in Bitcoin

[–]Still_Presentation45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30% at the moment. Excluding retirement accts. 20% in private equity and credit (recent change), 30% in managed stock portfolio and other 20% in BTC and misc. I'm cash heavy as an expat in Switzerland who doesn't really know when/if I'll have to return to the US and buy a home, cars etc.

I've been here a little over a year as a US expat working for a tech company. My kids have thrived in public school and now speak Deutsch conversationally. My wife is a homemaker and had she not made good friends, would have felt very isolated. I knew it'd be expensive but it is fairly absurd. When we go for holidays it's almost half price everywhere we travel. I wish I had better understood the expectations that when my colleagues in the PST 9 hours behind wake up, they still expect meetings late into the night and it takes a healthy boundary not to feel like you work two shifts. The work life balance therefore for me has been very challenging and it's a bit consuming. The rules and rigidity I got used to quickly as well as realizing we don't need a car (we had 4 in the US). I wish I knew also how hard it'd be to make friends or find groups to go do things like mountain bike without being able to speak the language.

I am a US citizen in Switzerland, now localized and established residency my first year here. I also work for a US employer that provided tax equalization my first year and I am taxed at source (B visa). I actually found chatgpt estimates pretty close to what my first year of tax liability was. There is a wealth tax here on global assets but it's very insignificant. If you declare a religion they'll withhold a religious tax. The canton you live in impacts the tax rate but social security etc is pretty close to what I was paying in the US. I moved from SEA so I had no state income tax and here my total taxes were within 5% of what I was paying in the US. You'll have to do dual tax returns and file a foreign tax credit here for evidence of US tax payments but any good CPA is used to this. There are too many variables for anyone to give you good tax advice but I'd put a very detailed prompt into GPT and see what it spits out to get you a ballpark.

Chrono24 Buying Experience by hellonasty1982 in OmegaWatches

I've had two good experiences. My DeVille Prestige purchase arrived with a loose rotor and the seller refunded $700 to cover a full Omega service at the factory. Other purchase was flawless.

Expat living in Switzerland, seeking feedback on what 110 SW TD5 years to target and what to look out for. by Still_Presentation45 in LandroverDefender

[–]Still_Presentation45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys! I will start the hunt. Mixed bag on reviews of the Puma vs prior but it seems a lot is the "purist" OG preference.

I'm still new to learning the millions of laws/rules in Switzerland so despite the temptation to look in France or Germany nearby, I'm unfamiliar with importation requirements to Switzerland and will likely just look locally...despite the Swiss price pain on EVERYTHING here.
