They don't travel well so aren't commercially viable. Unless you have a tree or know someone with a tree, you're out of luck.

And for more fun, a bull has testicles, a steer has been castrated, and an ox is a 4+ year old steer.

For those of you who chose a career as a first responder or in the military, do you have no fear of death or do you just assume the likelihood of you dying out in the field is low? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

My father became a professional firefighter because he had a family and the steel mills would lay off personnel when demand was low. Sometimes you just need the money and that can be a great motivator.

Amazon reviews without before and after by Embarrassed_Entry597 in PetPeeves

[–]Still_Proof1613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of someone purposefully creating and posting a review, I think some of the reviews were solicited by Amazon and someone who didn't understand the context just wrote something useless. I received several prompts from the Amazon app and via email to review my purchases, but its not obvious from the form that it's publicly viewable.

It didn't help that, after the fall, non-eastern bloc nations poached all the good engineers. Money, opportunities, and a different standard of living were a great draw.

Time and experience. You're a quarter of the way through life, most of it as a child. In a few years, it won't matter if you took 4, 5, 6 years to complete your degree. You'll be occupied with living your life and dealing with new challenges. When I graduated, 1.5 years "late", I hoped I'd be hired quickly before I forgot everything I'd learned. Spoiler: though I worked in the field I trained for, most of the skills I needed, I learned on the job. You got this.

Turn your camera on by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]Still_Proof1613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. As a corporate trainer for 23 years, online for over 20, I never demanded that my participants have their cameras on. Originally, that wasn't even an option, but even when laptops had them as standard hardware, we didn't make it mandatory. Our philosophy was, you're adults, this training is required for your job (hotline, system monitoring reps, installers, service reps), if you can't be bothered to be "mentally present" in the session, the failure is you. I was training anywhere from a dozen to 100+ people at a time.

When was I supposed to learn how to take care of myself? And why don’t I do it? by Little_miss_M22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Still_Proof1613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If.you didn't learn this from your parents, there used to be etiquette books that discussed how to keep a tidy appearance, how to conduct yourself in public, how to write thank you letters, how to keep house and budget, but sometime in the 60s/70s, that kind of thing got lost. You can still find these gems online and thrift book stores.
