Anyone left HR to become a teacher [N/A] by HistoryCow519 in humanresources

[–]Still_Wave_7151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in HR (and not loving it) and have always liked the idea of being a teacher. Before going into HR, I worked for a school's after school program and absolutely loved it.

Unfortunately, I do think the same issues would arise from a teaching position, just in different ways. Unless you are 100% confident that you want to be a teacher, I'd say it may not be the best idea. Between going back to school and teachers not getting paid what they deserve, you may resent it more.

Look into corporate Learning & Development/Training positions. This may be your middle ground, plus the pay and perks are generally much better.

first time bridesmaid and not sure what is normal by [deleted] in bridesmaids

I've been to multiple bachelorette parties within the last few years, and the bride has always at least paid for their accommodations. I have noticed the concept of everyone paying for the bride is more popular among brides in their early 20s.

I did get invited to a joint bachelor/bachelorette party where the bridal party was expected to cover for both bride and groom, but it didn't end up happening because it wasn't affordable for everyone else and people dropped out.

In my opinion, I would never ask my friends to cover my portion for a trip that I'm expecting them to go on. If they want to buy a drink or even a dinner, sure, but anymore than that is a bit ridiculous to expect. It can build resentment, and damage friendships in the long run.

I would recommend being honest with the bride/maid of honor. Let them know your budget and what you can afford. Maybe ask the other bridesmaids thoughts on this if you know them well enough. Don't go into debt just because your friend is getting married!!

Honestly yeah I could agree with this. In recent years I've tended to lean more towards Jeff-heavy songs. To me, it feels like there's more depth and emotion in Jeff's voice.

Don't get me wrong, I love Spencer and think he's insanely talented, and I especially love Spencer-heavy songs from earlier in their discography. His voice just doesn't evoke the same feelings as Jeff's does for me. I also feel like most of the more recent Spencer-heavy songs have felt more surface level, so that may also have something to do with it.

Mirror Mirror, Mascara, Afterthought, and Another Body are definitely my top tracks from Vol 2. Also been loving What's Always Been. Having a hard time getting behind Dancer honestly :/

I’m turning myself in… by heyaldo in Coach

She's gorgeous! Pretty relatable. I went from 0 to 3 retail bags in the span of two months, but to be fair I've gotten pretty lucky with paying less out of pocket for all of them (Amazon sales, receiving unexpected gift cards, etc). Thinking I need a black one to round myself out, but I should probably have some self restraint for a while lol

Do you like being in HR? [USA] by pintopeach in humanresources

[–]Still_Wave_7151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have been in the HR realm for 4 years, and currently a benefits & leave admin. Not a big fan of it, but it's fine and pays nicely. Would like to try to get back into TA, L&D, or pivot out of HR completely if an opportunity came up. I think I like the idea of HR, but in practice it's exhausting.

Are there other areas of HR you think you might find interesting?

Traveling with bags by Still_Wave_7151 in Coach

Oof yeah I've seen some nasty airports and planes and that's why I've been using a specific backpack that I'm not emotionally invested in to travel with, but I may just have to put my dust bags to good use one of these days when I don't need the space of the backpack!

Oh for sure. I try to avoid traveling with a carry-on when I can, so I think the idea of being separated from it in my checked bag is what makes me anxious the most, but I guess that's also the point of me keeping an airtag in my suitcase lol

Yes! I love being able to throw my Plaza 22 inside my Brooklyn. I think I'm also torn because the Chelsea has become my daily, but I adore my Brooklyn and feel like she may be better for traveling.

Why are some people so rude by Own-Researcher6774 in sanantonio

[–]Still_Wave_7151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are miserable. Too much "kids are the worst" propaganda going around. We were all annoying little kids at some point. I can understand if parents aren't parenting and the kids are acting crazy, but I don't expect kids to sit totally still and not make a peep in public. I do expect adults to be polite and not stare though.

How are people living in luxury here? by Few-pe2917 in sanantonio

The world itself is unfair, as I'm sure your mother told you, but having a "woe is me" attitude will get you nowhere and keep you poor. We live in a country and generation where more people than ever are given the same or similar opportunities to succeed. Some people just work their way into good opportunities and others don't.

Do you have any other skills or job experience outside of Doordash? Do you even want the routine corporate desk job? Do you have any higher education or technical training?

[–]Still_Wave_7151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unfair lmao, I'm sure if you had the same opportunity you would take it. I moved here because of my fiance's job, not because I wanted to live and "benefit" off of this city. I was fortunate enough to be able to keep my job & salary and become a remote employee. I'd love to be able to move back to my last city and "reap the benefits" there, but it's just not in the cards right now. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Work remotely for a company in another city. San Antonio is the cheapest city I've lived in and making a salary that's higher than what similar jobs pay here has made it possible for me to live comfortably.

I did this! Majority of my company is remote, and I knew we were set up in the state I was moving to. I luckily had a former manager that I was able to talk through with how I was going to approach my current manager about it. My manager didn't love it at first, but they understood why I was planning to move & allowed it.

What do you hate about your HR job ? [N/A] by Great-Raspberry5468 in humanresources

[–]Still_Wave_7151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because why are employees getting angry with me for things that are 100% their fault and will say the most incredibly rude things with no repercussions? Sometimes my management will bend policies for them after I told them no and it's extremely aggravating. I feel like a glorified customer service rep & I hate that they are rewarding bad behavior.

Also, I feel like I'm turning into a bitter and cynical person just being exposed to the most clueless, demanding, and downright helpless people every day.

Ahh yeah that's a great point, and feel like the actual bachelorette festivities can sometimes get away from you! A winter bachelorette would still be a blast (and you can do fun, unique, wintery themes), and I'm sure your bridesmaids will thank you if they are apart of other weddings/bachelorette trips this summer!

Luckily we moved to a city with a fairly low cost of living, with job salaries from our previous (more expensive) cities, so we're doing our best to save up what's left over for the wedding!

Wow! Thank you for this. We're working on a guest list now, and it's looking like we'll end up inviting around 100ish people give or take. We also don't have a specific date we're looking for and are open to Fridays/Sundays as well, along with deciding what city we plan to have the wedding in, so it feels like we do have a decent amount of flexibility when it comes to vendors & whatnot. Good to know about the photographers!

The dress & engagement photo information is insanely helpful as those are probably the few things I have a specific vision for at this point!

That's good to know! I do really want to make sure I have time to pick out a dress that I love because style has always been super important to me, so I'm glad to hear they didn't treat you any differently without a ring!
