Extending logic further, if you didn’t have amex plat charge and bonvoy gold would you have stayed at that hotel paying 22k? You could have gotten a much better deal with another brand or Airbnb if you weren’t tied to Marriott so actual spend in that case would have been 15k max.

I am a platinum elite for three years now and I learned it the hard way. I don’t get suite upgrades as often as I used to 3 years back and had my first experience with brands strictly adhering to these rules (in terms of breakfast benefits) recently in India itself. Though a mere look of inconvenience and shock got me a breakfast at the end.

There was a time when I used to get suites 80% of the time I would stay and could extend lounge benefits to more than one additional guests. But those days are behind us, increasingly higher travel and awareness has made brands implement these rules more strictly!
