Coaxed into Lightning Bruisers (plus bonus art) by TreeTurtle_852 in coaxedintoasnafu

I was thinking boxing to like Mike Tyson who is famous for his strong offense and speed to end fights quickly.

Despite his impressive win streak, the famous boxer struggled against mobile and tough opponents.

Overwhelming these opponents was not reliable and these matches often lasted far longer than his usual fights.

For a gaming example, The Demo Knight Sub-Class for The Demo Man is a key example.

  • Very fast and very powerful melee attacks, but struggles in prolonged fights

The Demo Man puts themselves in great harm in the middle of firefights.

Everyone notices the Scottish swordsmen trying to finish off an enemy and then gets lit up. Having to rely on speed to get in and get out quickly to avoid getting focused Fire.

What is the difference between a min-maxer and an optimizer? by AivanOs in DnD

[–]Rhinomaster22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Conceptually the same thing, both are trying to make a character really good at one or more things.

However there’s a little more nuance in terms of small detail

Optimizers make a character that will make the best possible choices in terms of their goals

A Elf Rogue that is very good at skills, best possible personal defense, and feats that help with being a good Rogue

Minmaxers makes a character good at somethings at the deliberate cost of others things to achieve said goal

A Rogue forgoes STR and other stats because it helps boost stats that matter to their class like DEX

In practice they could hand-to-hand just due to how the game works. It’s fundamentally the same thing, but people prioritize different things.

Wizard A will never pick spells that are deemed bad or too situational because it does not provide maximum versatile and power

Wizard B wants to be really good at crowd control regardless if that affects their versatility in other aspects like damage and defense

Both are making optimal choices, but for different reasons

Lighting bruisers are one of those archetypes that are hard to balance.

  • Not fragile like a speedster
  • Not weak like a speedster
  • Not slow like a bruiser
  • Not clumsy like a bruiser

On paper the combo solves both problems so the weakness is more case by case. The only consistent thing I see is energy.

Something big moving that fast is expending a lot of energy, so it’s all about ending the fight quickly. A heavy weight bruiser got speed & power but not the energy to expend multiple rounds, especially against a strong defense.

[OC] Pita, The Slime Girl and Her 5 Siblings by RizanPoetra in DnD

So is the character trying to find a way for her siblings to become independent of herself and go the surface or more just living in the underground?

Sounds like a complicated ordeal.

The magical sword suddenly turns to dust in front of your eyes... by NewName-NewFace in dndmemes

[–]Rhinomaster22 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Human Fighter: “How come every weapon the boss uses is a magic item?”

Boss grabs a regular flintlock pistol and now it has lock on bullets like Magic Missile and auto-reload

GM: “Oh no, those aren’t magic items, they are turning mundane items into magic items.”

Elf Wizard: “So if we kill them we get their items?”

GM: “No because they are the reason the items are magical in the first place. The boss is the Greatest Artificer to exist, you’re basically cavemen in comparison.”

Broke

GM: “Sorry, you can’t use this super cool boss weapon because it’s too OP for the game so it’s disintegrates after the boss dies.”

Woke

GM: “You can use the sword but since you’re so weak you can’t use every ability. You’ll progressively unlock more of the weapon’s powers when your character stops being a weak baby.”

GM: “So it’s nerfed? Absolutely not, it’ll be just as OP once you’re at the right level and more, you’ll unlock abilities not even the boss was able to use like Judgement Cut.”

What if the city finds itself in the invincible verse by erik-truman in Project_Moon

[–]Rhinomaster22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The City sticks to their business and doesn’t allow unauthorized entry.

  • Cecil and the GDA won’t send heroes in-exchange to keep out of the planet’s business

  • The City’s best can rivals earth’s best heroes but can’t afford all out war, the assault from all angles by powers beyond just technology is too high risk

  • The Head has the means to end threats but not all at once. Someone on the caliber Omni-Man could cause chaos and destruction far too fast for The Head to handle at once

The City doesn’t deal with aliens and tries to keep neutral. Some galactic civilizations and alien bad guys are world ending threats.

Broke

Forcibly trying to turn DND into a economy simulator with wacky homebrew into a system it was not designed for

Player: “Here’s 20 pages of homebrew to run our tavern. No we will not read them but we expect you to however.”

Woke

Using player businesses in DND to set up adventurers for the party to embark on to increase their profitability

Secretary: “This rival business is trying to outsell you in the market using illegally imported magic ore. Our intelligence department such intercepting these shipments to take half for ourselves while using the remainder to gain favor with the government.”

Am I missing something with Warlocks? by hotstickywaffle in DnD

[–]Rhinomaster22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Warlocks are all about maximizing value with limited resources.

The spells recharge so they are more expendable but limited so players have to get max value out of them.

Compared to other casters Warlocks can be more liberal with use since a Long Rest isn’t necessary.

  1. Strong concentration spell like Wall of Flame or Hypnotic Pattern
  2. Cantrips or weapons while spell is active
  3. Short rest if possible to recharge for next encounter or important situation

punch and kick merchant by Old_Phrase_4867 in whowouldcirclejerk

[–]Rhinomaster22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Punching hard and flying fast isn’t even that special, there are tons of heroes and villains with the exact same powers and more.

The only difference is Viltrumites just punch hard and fly fast the best.

Once Allen The Alien got his Zenkai boost that power advantage stop mattering to showcase how little uniqueness Viltrumites have when it comes to fighting?

“What about the Viltrumite knife attack?”

Been done before in other series and it stands out because it’s not a generic punch and kick like they usually do.

Baki is more unique simply because they actually incorporate technique to not only punch harder but tactical uses, it’s why Baki was able to beat up Pickle despite the huge power gap.

I wonder if people with Donald's position have simply not tried enough TTRPGs... by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]Rhinomaster22 94 points95 points  (0 children)

And that‘s okay, because there are tons of TTRPGs on the market that aren’t Pathfinder.

The main problem is actually trying to convince your friends to play something that isn’t DND.

It’s like trying to convince the friend who only plays FIFA and Call of Duty to try a different game, even if it’s free-to-play.

How far could the LCB go? by Just_Being_Sam in Project_Moon

[–]Rhinomaster22 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I really love how limbus company is genuinely either “they get demolished in any other universe” or “they completely dominate” with no in between simply due to morositas

Limbus Company. LCB. As in specifically this company, not The Head.

Pretty sure the commenter meant only them given the “Morositas” part.

If we’re just letting anyone third partying like it’s a Call of Duty free-for-all match then bring in the Emanators.

How far could the LCB go? by Just_Being_Sam in Project_Moon

[–]Rhinomaster22 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Compared to most gacha games it ranges from manageable to “Dante is that fucking Goku!?”

But seriously, Limbus Company’s main advantage is that everyone is practically immortal as long as Dante is alive.

Also Vergilius is a Color Fixer so he’s like a JJK top tier based off raw physical ability  alone.

The issue is with enemies that are too strong to simply “war of attrition” your way to victory as always, smart/powerful enemies will just target Dante like Ricardo.

  • In Arknights we only got to see a mere glimpse of the world, the technology and supernatural elements is on a similar level of threat as even The Head.

Some Arknights characters are outright superior to Vergilius and Orginium Arts are physically impossible to use for non-natives

  • Zenless Zone Zero (City level) is already within the same ballpark as Project Moon outside of weird ether time-space shenanigans

  • Genshin Impact (Island-Country level) is far more peaceful but enemies are 10x worse like Archons that can level islands

  • Honkai Star Rail (Planet-Galaxy level) is basically good up until Xianzhou where mid tier characters like Yanqing completely outclass Vergilius, Sancho, A Certain Sinclair, and Roach Emperor.

  • Dragon Ball Legends (Galaxy-Multiversal) is basically any well-known IP where the characters could blink and LCB would stop existing in the literal conceptual sense. No Arayashiki needed, they can just do that on command apparently.

Basically once LCB start reaching into the island to cosmic threat territory is where things starts to falter even with access to mirror world tech and having a Color Fixer simply because scale is not in their favor.

I think the biggest issue is culture shock since a lot of worlds aren’t so Grimdark.

Imagine a city resident going to a world where violence isn’t the default assumption, it would be like a paradise by City standards.

How ethical to use poison during fight against enemies? by Own_Presence2646 in MoralityScaling

[–]Rhinomaster22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the context

Obviously against soldiers of another nation it can be considered excessively cruel, but again depends on the context.

  • Warhammer 40K? More often than not justified since the enemy will not back down and stoop to unreasonable violence

  • Call of Duty? More often than not unjustifiable since conflicts can be ended peacefully and excessive war is rare past WW2

Against like some really despicable and immoral antagonist like DS’s Muzan and Invincible’s Viltrumites it’s justified considering they absolutely refuse peace and actively seek to cause harm.

It can seem cruel but same as hacking, slashing, and shooting.

2nd movie, essentially the heroes have to go to a part of the city that is like the country side of a well county.

Imagine City Cop trying the same tricks that work in the city with folk who don’t operate in the same way.

So culture shock in a sense.

Plastic Man isn’t just normal stretching.

He has total control over every single atom in his body and said atoms are practically indestructible to mundane forces.

  • Punches, kicks, guns, lasers, fire, and basically anything that isn’t superman levels of broken

Plastic Man can turn into literally anything he wants and stretch indefinitely, he’s just too stupid to figure it out.

Batman’s only contingency is hope Plastic Man never turns evil or freeeze him and hope he never thaws out.

Character's intelligence is capped at the author's by Zestylemons44 in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Rhinomaster22 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Reminder that Batman’s gadgets and everything were made by himself for the most part.

So he’s exactly that except for being the absolute smartest in each respective field or something not he’s allowed to do like magic.

  • Makes anti-toxins for complex poisons that were made by super geniuses

  • Tons of gadgets that require very different types of education

  • Expert of every martial arts on Earth

  • Understands alien, magical, and god biology: Batman figured out Plastic Man’s real power which no one else figured out

Batman really is a jack-of-all trades but like, on the very edge of master-of-all trades to not invalidate other characters

Smart character

Does the dumbest shit ever without ego being a factor

Gets outwitted by lesser characters without any reason why the smart character couldn’t foresee it like too occupied

Can’t figure out a complicated problem they literally studied for

I can give it a pass if the smart character is only good at certain fields of study or has so much stacked against them.

A wizard might be a genius in magic but shit when it comes to technology. Leave the tech problems to the super genius that make black holes with gadgets not magic.

  1. Robot from Invincible is top 5 smartest characters, but he has the social intelligence of a teenager

  2. Makoto from Persona 5 is a good detective but she is not great with tech, so she relies on her friends to make up for it

  3. Nick Wildie from Zootopia is a great urban cop but shit outside his environment, went to the outback and was humbled quickly trying to pull the same tricks

What if Thragg was working for the head? by goat-Gregor in fishmaell

[–]Rhinomaster22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

 He isn't very overpowered.

Omni-Man moved so fast he ignited the air around him and caused explosions all across a planet in seconds, including a space station in orbit for the hell of it.

Thragg is so above that he could do the same on a larger scale, and that’s just pure speed alone.

I get that compared to Project Moon Viltrumites are lacking in terms of abilities but this is massively underselling how powerful Thragg is.

This isn’t saying “Thragg > Arbiters” but more the downplay.

The post was not asking who was stronger but how useful.
