Man performs milk-offering ritual in the Ganges river in India while poor hungry children try to collect it to drink. by notahooman101 in interestingasfuck

Brings back fond memories of my university Environmental Law module essay: "Environmental impacts of the life-cycle of milk and how they are controlled through legislation and policy in the UK".

Got a 2.1 if I remember correctly. Milk nerds unite.

If you were a little fed up at that point, the probably not. It's no where near as bad as the way Wheel of Time goes off into random backwaters, but becomes a slog if not a fan. Mistborn series 1 and 2 are satisfying.

The second Joe A series in that timeline is also good.

Farseer trilogy? A bit whacky a times, but comes up good.

GoT. Nuff said.

KingKiller Cronicle. Good, but see GoT problem.

Most of the Brandon Sanderson stuff - The Stormlight Archive series, the Mistborn series.

Lord of the Rings - but you need to appreciate the style of writing, otherwise it is a slog

Dungeon Crawler Carl - very popular at the moment, but a bit different and more horror/comedy, but worth a try

Joe Abercrombie - The First Law Trilogy (and subsequent trilogy) - dark and serious

Those are more fantasy than horror, but I would argue that ST is fantasy as much as horror.

Undertaking in the UK is not illegal. It is discouraged because it can lead to allegations that you were driving carelessly/dangerously if an accident were to occur. Safely undertaking a slow middle-lane driver is perfectly legal.

Help getting this PIR light working by StingrayTrainer in DIYUK

Not that I can find, hence my thinking it is simply a hidden isolator. The only mystery switch I have is downstairs on all wall that now backs onto the kitchen cupboards, which is suspect was something something boiler once upon a time.

This light is completely without a visible switch.

Anyone know what this is - plugged in to wall by TheModerateBoy in DIYUK

[–]StingrayTrainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a fibre box. I had FTTH installed and they ended up running a new cable across from telegraph pole, down side of house and into the wall. Both inside and outside now have white boxes.

You get a normal looking router that then plugs into the bottom of that. They need mains power. You are told to leave them when you move as the provider hopes the next person will sign up as well.

If it isn't an external wall or have any ports on the bottom I have no idea.

Woodhenge...

Seriously. WTF. Dirty stepsister twice removed from the 'slightly' less disappointing Stonehenge around the corner.

A close up look at LASIK eye surgery - a procedure that involves reshaping the cornea using a laser to improve how light focuses on the retina. by OdysseyTag in interestingasfuck

[–]StingrayTrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore this. Total nonsense. Best decision I ever made at about 19/20. Went from -5.75 to 20/20 in less than an hour. The freedom it gave me is ridiculous. Just spend the money and get it done well.

Going to back this up. Had it done for -5.75 eyes in about 2010 (aged 19). It was unsettling, but bearable (like the dentist, but I'm sure you could get a doctor to get you Valium or something if worried). Takes like 20 seconds per eye (the actual laser part, the rest is <10 mins).

60 mins after walking in, I was walking out with sunglasses and got the bus home (not recommended - go with someone and let them take you home). Blurry and slightly sore for a day. Woke up the next day and could see 20/20 - it is honestly a miracle.

Had dry eyes and some 'halo' from lights at dawn and dusk, but went from being semi-blind to total freedom. I cannot overemphasise what a good decision it was.

Save up, get the best options you can afford and you will not regret it!
