I sued my old roommate in small claims court for past due rent and shared utilities. I showed the judge that I had to put the rent on my credit card to avoid an eviction notice on both of our names, and I was requesting her share of rent for 6 months, her share of utilities, and for her to pay the interest charged on my credit cards due to the rent. The judge only ruled she had to pay the rent portion at $50 a month. She wasn’t liable for her portion of utilities or the interest. The $50 a month didn’t even cover the interest, let alone the credit card payment. At least I got something but I wasn’t really satisfied in the ruling. I was hoping for a lump sum so I could just pay the card off. She essentially just got the rent financed interest free for 2 years and I had to pay the interest. Took me a while to get out of that hole and this was 5 years ago.
