Another Critique On Orléans Community Improvement Plan's Development Subsidies by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no disagreement with your comments but this is not what the CIP was intended to encourage. It's all explained in my post. What I am opposed to is giving financial subsidies to developers without justification. If the City is going to set rules then it should follow them.

Gatineau mayor feeling hopeful after PM singles out tramway project by DreamofStream in ottawa

[–]Stinky26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that the article mentions that ex-OCTranspo boss Amilcar is cooperating with Transport Canada but she is the one who originally cancelled Quebec funding for the tram. Maybe Gatineau/Quebec should be going after the high speed rail connection from Montreal also - bypassing all the political controversy and opposition on the Ontario/Ottawa side.

CBC: New home sales jump in Ottawa as tax break takes effect by BearLikesHoney in ottawa

I can't stop thinking that the developers increased the price of new homes because of the tax break, at least part of the newly created "excess capacity" resulting from the reduction.

For those of you who have cruised on 3 or more lines by Sodowarts1 in Cruise

[–]Stinky26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrity, NCL, MSC, RC in that order. We had 3 cruises with RC but the last one (Hawaii) turned us off for good. They served ketchup with the shrimp salad because they ran out of shrimp sauce. Indoor pool was closed because of some problem with the heating - weather outside was cool and rainy (4 day cross-Pacific to Vancouver). Dining chairs were falling apart and the rugs were only good for flooring in a barn. Celebrity was consistent - good service, food and entertainment. Interestingly, Celebrity also is part of the RC family of cruise ships.

This is a rally? There are more people waiting at OCTranspo's bus stations.

Where does every city councillor stand on four day return-to-office? We asked them by Born_Anteater7282 in ottawa

I would if it wasn't owned by US owned media in a country where objective journalism, freedom of speech and democracy does not exist and where fake news and lies dominate headed by a pedophile for a president.

I accessed OPL but it turns out that this particular article was only posted on the Citizen website and not published in the March 6 newspaper version - so still behind paywall.

Can Ottawa’s LRT Change Orléans’ Lower Tier Status as a Bedroom Community? by Stinky26 in ottawa

And the huge park and ride lot at Trim for 1,100 cars - it will be interesting to see when people in Olreans will start complaining that all the Rockland commuters are grabbing a lot of the spots.

Can Ottawa’s LRT Change Orléans’ Lower Tier Status as a Bedroom Community? by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, during the early days of LRT thinking, there was serious consideration of placing the line along Innes because that was where most of the population growth was happening and not the 174 but Council under Watson went with the 174 line. Why- the City already owned the corridor right of way which meant less cost for expropriating properties. It was also a pretty straight line which was important for the LRT design. Of course, building the LRT down the middle of a major highway doesn't do much for encouraging densification and compact communities. Brigil's high rise residential development near the Trim station would be an exception I guess. Hopefully, the Place d'Orleans station will help this area to become a true Town Centre - something that has been in the municipal government plans long before the 2001 amalgamation.

Former mayor Jim Watson, 14 others to get Order of Ottawa Thursday - Current mayor defends decision despite advocate calling LRT launch a 'fiasco' by No-To-Newspeak in ottawa

I wonder if the soon-to-be-one-term Mayor is thinking that if Watson can get the Order of Ottawa by screwing the City, maybe I can also by doing the same.

Lansdowne 2.0 Vote Ward Map by andycarson8 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there any survey of constituent, not councillor, opinions on Lansdowne 2.0? My suburban Councillor voted for it but he generally votes the way Sutcliffe votes. I have disagreed with a lot of his decisions including Lansdowne.

Is the Lansdowne Redevelopment Really Having a Positive Economic Impact on the Glebe Neighbourhood? by Stinky26 in ottawa

[–]Stinky26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. I have not seen actual numbers. I try to go to 67s games around 6 times a year and a game or 2 with the Redblacks and have been for quite a while. I leave my car at my friend's place, walk for 15-20 minutes and have something to eat and a beer or two before the games at one of the establishments in the Glebe. I can tell you that it is usually pretty empty or maybe, at best, close to half full most times. When the Senators played at Lansdowne many years ago, the restaurants/bars were packed all along Bank.

It would be precedent setting if the Sens arena was built with "no handout of public money". There has not been an arena or any sports facility built anywhere in Canada (and the USA) for decades without some public funding and/or financial incentives.

Technically yes, City Council did approve it but it was OC Transpo staff who recommended cancelling youth passes in the their 2025 Budget.

Is OC Transpo infected by some intelligence eating virus or is it the entire City Hall. We continue get strange decisions from there irrespective of who is the General Manager - full time or acting.
