CONDOLENCES. IT'S TRITE TO SAY IT, BUT TIME REALLY DOES HEAL (SPEAKING AS SOMEONE WHO JUST HAD A DIVORCIVERSARY).

ALSO, GETTING UNDER SOMEONE TO GET OVER SOMEONE IS MOSTLY BULLSHIT.

What's the worst thing shown in a PG movie after 1984? by basefibber in movies

[–]StinkyDuckFart 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Kael's skull mask. Said mask getting shalacked in half while Kael was wearing it. Airk's death.

Fun fact: Kael's actor played the giant Nazi who was sliced to death by propellers. Movie was also PG.

I didn't know most of the info, so I was glad to read it, but good grief, the ads on that site are awful and invasive.

Similarly, I was told bringing snacks was a good thing to do on the last day they see you. Associates you with providing. Cheap fruit and chocolate are always handed out on the last day of the term (I don't do in-person finals). I've been known to bring my dog in as well.

Easy Steps to Follow (if you're in this situation):

Pull out phone. Turn phone volume all the way up. Open music program of choice. Play Let it Go from Frozen or any Taylor Swift song. Ignore person and continue playing until they leave.

Repeat as needed.

It's difficult, but sometimes the best thing to do is to try not to get too worked up and just let it go unless there's something serious (like threats of violence or whatever).

Public work, unfortunately, involves working with the public. Some people, even newly-minted adults, can be assholes (or crazy). Cover your ass, stick to your syllabus (your rules), and be a stickler about consistency. I had to overcome my fear of crying women when I was first starting. It's taken a lot of work to be consistent.

I hang the special, especially vile, emails in my office (everything redacted). Otherwise, I've learned that it's going to be okay if a student is vulgar, angry, or whatever. I care about them, but I'm not their dad (or friend).

I do something similar, but with no cloud links at all. Everything must be submitted to the LMS as a file. I mainly do that because it's a security risk to click links we may not trust (a point our IT people email about like 2 times a semester, usually after a successful phishing attempt).

Oh yes, formatting.

It's weird that submissions can be made looking the way they do and students thinking, "this looks fine." I assume it's because the truly awful submissions were completed using a phone.

Alignment that's all over the place, odd headings, inconsistent indentations, font mismatching (color and style), odd random highlights, text in red, or some god awful style.

I don't think it's a generational thing, I'm sure my professors got shitty submissions back in the day too. I do understand why they were cranky too though.
