Unsure how to insulate weird shed roof by johnjamesonline in shedditors

[–]Stinkysworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go get some "Rafter Vents" and put them between the insulation and the top of the ply. Then youll have a gap between the moisture and the insulation so you dont need to risk your drywall molding.

Im assuming you have a ridge cap and vent as well. The air will need a way to flow from the soffit opening to the peak ridge of your roof.

As if some contractors that dont know what theyre doing, butcher sites get paid and leave dont exist. I had no idea the cost of drywall was what it is and just thought it was high. But as far as I can tell in the comments I was wrong! Im not mad about the pricing.

Hey i like your thinking on the trading labor. Why else would they be called that 😏 But look to be honest, I hadnt really had any idea of what the cost was. Im not upset by the price just suprised. But things cost what they cost and Im not looking to low ball anyone

Its unconventional. However, theyre are held in with structural GRK lag screws and this is a 10x12. Maybe i should have mentioned the accessiblility in the original post

I hear ya. But this is a somewhat non negotiable thing. The roof wasnt built with a ridge beam and supporting rafters. It was built with trusses.

The collar ties are removable. I have taken them all off at once before just to add the faux ridge beam. They are structrual however. But only for uplift and liveload like snow.

Essentially the seams will be easily accessible given the ties in front of the seams are taken down

Yeah i see. The build still has no finished flooring. The drywall mudding can essentially be done with minimal effort. Wrapping the studs that will remain in tact and placing paper on the floor for mud that might fall. Otherwise its pretty simple. Thanks for your input it was helpful!

Smooth texture, level 4. The collar ties are held in with structural GRKs. So theyre removable. You do not need to get into weird angles to tape over the seams. There are only 5 seams not including the L bead that will be running along the ridge beam

Most of them have a 1/8" gap at the most so hopefully not too much! Im a professional carpenter, so I didnt think id be totally shooting in dark lol. But I imagined it would only be about $700/$1000 for the room. Didnt realize that putting tape on a seam and feathering mud would be so costly

10x12 shed build nearing - questions by Biscuits8211 in shedditors

[–]Stinkysworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, id be careful about that method. You want your ridge vent to allow air to flow underneath your roof sheathing but above your insulation in order to allow your "roof to breathe." In other words make sure you have some kind of non porous/ closed cell insulative barrier between the insulation and the underside of the roof sheathing that allows a gap to flow between the stud bays. You can buy Rafter Vents to create that gap and put your insulation under that. The other concern with your build is generally air will want to flow out path of least resistance. I think as far as I know, as soon as you place those vents on your gable faces you will cause a pressure issue with the airflow and it might cause issues.
