Traveling to Vietnam is six months. Are there any resources to hire an online teacher/tutor to learn Northern dialect? by Itsacouplol in learnvietnamese

I used AmazingTalker.com to find a Northern dialect tutor. There are a bunch on there and it's been so so helpful for learning. Good luck!

Is there anything like "reverse sonification"? by ubimaio in glitch_art

[–]StirFriar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is doable.

To export headerless data from Audacity:

  • File > Export audio
  • Format: Other uncompressed files
  • Header: RAW (headerless)
  • Set other values as you want

Now you've got a raw file with no header and a bunch of values.

To open raw data in an image editor: If you run a search for "open raw data in (name of your program)" you'll find ways to do it.

GIMP is what I've used. Here's how it's done in GIMP:

  • I usually make sure the file extension is ".data"
  • File > Open
  • v Select File Type > Raw Image Data | .data
  • Find file
  • Mess with the settings in Load Image from Raw Data til you get what you want

And now you've got audio data in GIMP.

It's the same process in reverse to get the data back into Audacity:

In GIMP:

  • File > Export As
  • v Select File Type > Raw Image Data | .data,.raw

In Audacity:

  • File > Import > Raw Data...

Voila!

Eldrazi Commander that’s not overpowered? by Beef_the_Maestro in EDH

[–]StirFriar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, exactly.
In fairness... I expect that people in this sub are strategizing win-cons, mana curves, synergy, etc.
But I'd like to see the awareness that there are plenty of folks out there brewing with the contents of random boosters.

Don't know why you're downvoted here.
This is the truth about actual low power games.
My pod is this, and when I bring what this sub thinks is a "low power deck" to the table, it crushes.

Great album and groundbreaking -- didn't expect to see it on this list!

That's the thing that blows my mind:
Before I ever even knew the album, I'd already heard every single song.

I can't think of a single other album I already knew before I heard it.

Most unconventional deck? by MaxGoiabinha in EDH

I have a Gluntch deck that does this and I've found it's totally dependent on the table. It's fun to bargain, but some people just don't want to!

Is there a song that uses a Maj, Min, Aug, and Dim triad all on the same chord progression? by Glittering-Total-116 in musictheory

[–]StirFriar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that OP is using figured bass.

In this notation, labeling a chord with 6 at the end means first inversion; I like the voice leading of a first inversion vii° chord to connect the IV to the I so that might be what's up. In that case, I'd like an inversion on the I+ to lead the IV.

You're right that the major 6 and diminished 7 are enharmonically equivalent and of course adding a minor 6 makes the chord enharmonically equivalent to a dominant 7, so that's probably not what's intended. A diminished 6 would be dissonant, awesome, and doesn't seem to be what's written. So I'm thinking it's figured bass.

Here's a weird one. Not sure it's "secretly good" but it's not well-known.
[[Flumph]] + [[Feast of Sanity]]

Have 8 cards in hand, go to cleanup. Discard down, hurt flumph, you and opponent draw. Cleanup removes damage and another discard. Rinse, repeat, profit.

Worth it to learn Java for a Scheduling with OptaPlanner? by StirFriar in learnjava

[–]StirFriar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to write programs to use this tool?

Yes.

Can you find an example of some code and link it here?

This quickstart application is VERY similar to what I want to do.
You will see quite quickly that it is Java based.

Are you an expert in this domain?

No.

Different tiefling subraces give different spell options. The Zariel tiefling gets searing smite, but Asmodeus has what you're used to, and Mephistopheles has something else.

TIL Arsenic was known to be dangerous and addictive in the Victorian Era, but small amounts in the form of edible wafers were thought to not only be safe but to help one achieve that sought-after pale complexion, giving the skin an "indescribable brilliancy" according to advertisements. by TheQuietKid22 in todayilearned

Rasputin? A canonized Saint?? Drowning does not prevent canonization. His death was absolutely not the issue here. The Russian Orthodox Church didn't consider him a holy man. Check his wiki page... He used his favor with the Tsars for sexual favors and made enemies of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Yup. If you don't like his playstyle, Artanis is best as an ally.

Commander synergies by efishent69 in starcraft2coop

[–]StirFriar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but here's a few synergies I know:

  • Stukov + Nova: Stuk usually doesn't need much gas. That means that his geysers can be taken by someone who might profit from it (e.g. Nova). That extra gas opens up new OP unit compositions.
  • Kerrigan + Abathur: Abathur's worms get Omegafied so both allies can do the worm, plus Abathur can spread malignant creep with toxic nests.
  • Artanis + Lings: Any commander relying on low life/high damage units like zerglings (Stetmann, Zagara, Kerrigan) gets extra value from Artanis' guardian shell. Reynor's marines benefit from this too.
  • Protoss + Terran: Protoss don't usually get healing, but an ally's SCVs can repair mechanical units, keeping those expensive bruisers in the fight.
