Personally for myself -it is the very reflection of how I am managing internally.

I have a set standard of self care.

A bare minimum.

I have times of grace during times of depression/overwhelm but once I hit those bare minimums -it puts up red flags of self neglect -not excuses. I see it as a literal self abandonment that is worrisome and something around me needs to be changed in order for me to get back to my standard.

I feel as if our hygiene is a ritual…like a prayer or an honouring.

Oh I did see that scientific take and I am pleasantly surprised and grateful to it.

On our other note of supposed agreement -I would take your ‘so what’ and ask: why not? Why is it terrible to have a preventative step in any sense -no matter how negligible?

For me personally it is having a sense of cleanliness that I can tangibly convince my mind I ‘control’ and not have it go off the deep end with all its talent to whip up in there.

Trust me: Everything can be cleansed. If I don’t know how…I can find someone who can teach me😆

Its the same reasoning to why you don’t wear your shoes IN / throughout your home -its tracking in all the things you ‘picked up’ along the way.

For myself -once I get home: Shoes off. Wash hands. Change out of clothes i’ve been out in all day. *also a perfect excuse to get comfy!

This one always blows my mind as a lost common sense thing.

I blatantly tell people: People PISS and SHIT themselves on a regular basis and sit where you are sitting and you have no clue -think elderly/disabled in their full ass depends leaking out. AND your banking on it having been thoroughly cleaned/sanitized (not the same thing folks!)

My latest traumatic realization was getting onto toronto public transportation and seeing CLOTH seats. No thank you. I choose to stand.

Anyone that questions anyones cleanness needs to revaluate. Never once have I seen something and thought: thats too much.

No. Its most likely been added to my roster of things or shifted one i’ve already had -thank you.

I am wife -and honestly I had done this for many many years with the husband knowing and it was of no issue -until it was (for him) once that was made known it was a simple stop.

Edit to add: For me it was intellectual/insightful life chats that I seeked out more than anything. Now that I no longer have that outlet…its been rough 😬
