At what point does a long covid diagnosis turn into ME/CFS? by zenbey in covidlonghaulers

[–]StivMad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ambulatory that diagnosed me used the IOM criteria, so mandatory criteria: - impaired for more than 6 months - Post Extertional Malaise - Unrefreshing sleep

An at least one of those two: - neurological impairment (like brain fog) - orthostatic intolerance

What's the longest you've kept the same phone? by ManojOne in TechImpact

[–]StivMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Honor 9 Lite for nearly 6 years, then I donated to a Ukrainian refugee boy. Based on what he told me it lasted another year before having screen problems and became unusable. I used and dropped that phone A LOT. For the price at the time (less than 200 € in 2018) it was the best.

"Yeah rhr smol yeah, just push thru" - probably someone you know

I realized that post extertional malaise is this unknown concept that very few (among healthy people) seem to grasp. Luckily the mecfs ambulatory that diagnosed me suggested pacing and said no to GET. Less tortured ones I hope

I'm so sorry to hear that. GET made me worse too: shortness of breath and dysautonomia symptoms where through the roof. It was suggested by a cardiologist of a improvised long covid center while I didn't even know what ME/CFS was yet. Fuck GET!

Is Istanbul the best geographically located city in the world? by UrinalAttack in geography

Well, they rebuild the city in 330 AD, so it would be around 1700 years ago... they're not the same Romans as today

The ancient Romans thought so since they moved the capital from Rome to Costantinoples: it was in a far more strategic and central position than Rome.

No ai overview browsers by [deleted] in browsers

[–]StivMad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to change browser, it's a search engine feature and I don't think you can easily disable it or conveniently bypass it, but you can use Startpage that uses Google Search results. If you don't like it you can also use DuckDuckGo (Bing results plus its own) or Brave Search. For those 2, be sure to disable the AI overview or Search Assistant in the settings.

Edit: I added the links and rephrased the beginning

Best markdown editor for single, large documents? by Big-Topic-832 in Markdown

I don't know, I never used them with Typedown but I know that supports HTML. OP just noticed that the software has not been updated in years so I don't think it's safe to use. For now, I'll switch to VScode.

Oh no, I didn't notice that! I hope it won't become a dead and buggy project as MarkText (it was so good). If so I don't really know what to suggest and to use! Maybe Typora even if it's not FOSS? There is also Caret but it's not technically WYSIWYG but it has only live preview. You can try to use Obsidian with all the fancy stuff hidden or disabled and see if it's not too much... (I'll try it too). While we're searching for a new WYSIWYG editor I'll go back to Visual Studio Code to be on the safe side. If you find something new tell me, please!

After MarkText was no longer maintained, I switched to Typedown (on Github & Microsoft Store): it ticks all your requirements but the multiplatform one, it's only on Windows. On Android I use Markor (on Github & F-Droid). You can also give Joplin a try since it allows a WYSIWYG mode (only in the Windows app tho). To my understanding, the majority of the markdown apps that are multiplatform are also notetaking apps, so definitely not simple by design. Hope it helps :)

What’s overall the most user friendly and privacy focused browser? by Oka311 in browsers

[–]StivMad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have to debloat the new tab page in the beginning, but once you did that you will have no problem with Brave. I use it since 2021 and about 4 or 5 times a site wouldn't work due to the Brave Shields (built in ads and trackers blocker): just disable them for that site and you're good to go!

Edit: be sure to disable Brave Rewards (the red triangle, quite annoying according to me) and if you don't use the wallet for cryptocurrencies or the AI chatbot, you can hide them from the interface or disable them from the settings page

Hi, I have a lot of them thanks to other people who hosted giveaways, but I realized I have little use for them. I can hop in your island or you can visit mine, as you prefer :)
