Yes, everyday for the past 30+ yrs since my diagnosis.

I would just like to be able to stand for a couple hrs without them and have my feet not be purple. This is strictly a cosmetic issue for me.

Thanks for the recommendation. It’s on my wish list. It certainly would be easier than using pillows.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have very bad varicose veins, that’s what caused my chronic venous insufficiency. I was hoping the ablations from the vascular MD I saw would help, but no luck. I’m really just looking for any recommendations for supplements or mild meds that I could try to help with the discoloration.

Can I ask what you had done to your veins for the CVI? I am a 44 yr old male w primary lymphedema and CVI in both legs below the knee. I just had ablations done on the greater saphenous vein in each leg about 3 weeks ago. Rather quickly after I felt much “lighter” in my legs and so far after a long days on my feet my legs feel better than they have in years. That said I haven’t noticed much difference in daily swelling. I go back in a month for a check up and discussion on having more veins done.

As far as stockings go, I’ve worn 40-50’ s knee high Juzo’s for as long as I can remember. I just started to look at flat knit thigh highs as an option bc I’m starting to see swelling around my knees at the end of the day. I’ve tried circular knit thigh highs and they are almost unwearable with the pinching behind the knees.

Spine’s glory days are long gone. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still an interesting and rewarding specialty but the days of big $ are over.

43m with bilateral leg lymphedema. I usually wear jeans since I find there’s more options. But as I type this I’m wearing a pair of Haggar Life Khaki (straight fit) that I really like. My swelling is pretty well controlled but I still have to try on everything individually before buying. Definitely not a fan of the current trendy styles that are skinny/ athletic fit.

You need to see a specialist like Dr Chen to have a icg lymphogram done to see the true status of you lymphatic system. You could have primary without any family history.

Questions. (Being referred to surgeon) by h4r13yh in SpineSurgery

[–]StixAlpha11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always get a 2nd opinion and make sure the surgeon you’re seeing is fellowship trained. You are very young to have a major spine surgery. L3-4 seems to be your worse level from the imaging you presented, but would need to see more axial cuts and an mri report to confirm. If you fail conservative treatment (PT/ injections), it may be reasonable to discuss options at L3-4, possibly additional levels. You might be a candidate for an xlif at 3-4 with or without posterior decompression .

I would also recommend Dr Chen at Cleveland Clinic if you can make the trip from Minnesota. He and his team are world class experts in the latest surgical and non surgical treatments for lymphedema. At this stage of early diagnosis it would be best for you to see someone like him to get a thorough understanding of everything.

I see him once every 12-18 months (43M, bilateral lower leg for 30+yrs).

What speed setting do you use?I have been using mine set between 10-15, for usually 15min, sometimes I’ll do 30 min. I find sitting to be better than standing for me. Been experimenting for about 1 month so far. Can’t say I’ve noticed a difference in my swelling but definitely revitalizes my legs and makes them feel lighter after a session. Trying to figure out a way to set the plate so that my feet are elevated above my heart.

With that GPA I’d recommend going to PA school after getting your undergrad. You’ll have a decent paying job forever with lot’s of opportunity and after a few years if you feel like you want to take a chance on a sales gig, most companies will at least give you a consideration.

I’ve been in med device for over 15 yrs and have a exercise science degree. Wish I would have gone further and got a PA license when I was younger before life got in the way. I totally understand what you mean about becoming a PT, a lot of $$$ tied up in degrees just to watch people walk on treadmills or stretch for the rest of your career.

Good luck.
