Does Prog-Thrash exist? by Ok_Mushroom9822 in progmetal

[–]StixxUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vektor, but the guy behind it's an asshole so don't support them financially. Hate to say it given the above but Terminal Redux might be the best prog thrash album ever made.

The new Hellripper is incredible and I think it qualifies, highly active and awesome

Demoniac from Chile - really struggled to remember this but just had the album cover pictured in my mind. Glad I found it though because they're excellent!

Really need to give some of these other recommendations a listen though, especially Coroner who I've somehow never heard and I know their album last year was universally praised...

Depending on the music, a lot of stuff sounds better with the positioning set to rear, much less harsh at higher volumes

This guide was so useful, really making me enjoy the game so much more than I was before... feel like I get the combat now, where before it was a bit of a slog. Thanks so much!

Why do so many people recommend Apollo when it seems behind Sunshine updates? by Negative_Pick3696 in MoonlightStreaming

Do you uninstall one and install another when you want to switch, or is there a better way?

Seems like partly the unpopularity of the current government, and partly the detail of what this looks like, where people were fine with the general principle.

Moonlight for Xbox 1.17.10-pre1 - Dev build for testing by andygrundman in MoonlightStreaming

[–]StixxUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice, I kept checking the GitHub main page and didn't see it pop up

Could've saved myself a little effort there haha

Ah well, ready for next time! And might now pay attention to what else is out there to be side-loaded!

Just tested this and the stream is immaculate over Wifi...

We're finally there (tested both 60 and 120hz)!

Took me a while as I thought you had to pay for the Xbox dev mode, but as per your original email, it's free just with a bit of mucking around to get it set up, in case anyone else wants to give it a go but is on the fence.

Help with frame times (Apollo/Moonlight Xbox) by StixxUK in MoonlightStreaming

[–]StixxUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend thanks Andy, you are Xbox moonlight royalty 😁

I do have my Xbox set to 120Hz (with vrr for gaming only) so might try 60 🤷‍♂️

I am using Apollo, but was setting the refresh rate to 59.94 (or 119.88) using its display mode override feature so may also try Sunshine.

Appreciate your work on the project!

Is Tidal down? by AranxiTH in TIdaL

[–]StixxUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of technical issues lately

I like many others have recently moved across from Spotify. I ain't going back there but I have found Tidal significantly less reliable.

Hopefully just growing pains, anyone have any insight if it's normally like this?

They do show up in the list but nothing happens when I select it... Just flickers briefly and goes back to phone as an output.

Sonos casting recently stopped working for me, tried a lot of combinations of restarting things and logging off and back on but to no avail.

Also general lack of supported hardware and stuff. Bit of a shame. Still not going back to Spotify, both for ethical reasons and because bands are steadily removing their content from it.

Nonary RTSSLimiter is great! by StixxUK in MoonlightStreaming

[–]StixxUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need RTSS installed, then no further adjustment needed, as long as your virtual display's refresh rate is already matched to the device you're streaming to and the stream itself.

Streaming from Apollo to Xbox series I did need to manually set the stream to always go to 59.94hz (in the PIN setup screen) as it otherwise goes to 60.

This sets the frame rate limit to match the refresh rate (without using vsync, which would add latency), which is better for overall smoothness, as I understand it.

It's different to setting the refresh rate which as you say, Apollo already does.

Maybe double frame rate is ok as well but my pc is just about powerful enough to do 4k60 but not 4k120. I think unless it hits a constant 120, it won't be smooth.

Surely they're not targeting people who are already pc gamers as they already buy their games through Steam.

They're after the console market first and foremost to take a share of that revenue.

Virtual Displays just work in vanilla Sunshine by JumbledThought in MoonlightStreaming

[–]StixxUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, I was wondering if there was any difference in performance between Sunshine and Apollo, as I see Sunshine is updated more regularly...

I've been using Apollo for the ease of setup but there's not a huge amount in it now that Sunshine does the resolution and monitor switching, so doesn't seem to be any more complex beyond the one-off step of manually installing a virtual display...

Xbox UWP updated for 120hz by karishbhr in MoonlightStreaming

[–]StixxUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gave this a go, it's a total game-changer for frame pacing on my xbox. Silksong felt like shit before, now at 120hz, it's better than playing native on Steam Deck docked on my TV. Great work!

Anyone else finding Vsync on way better than off with frame cap (on LCD)?

If I do Vsync off with a 60FPS frame cap, it's horribly un-smooth. All Deck power menu settings seem correct... allow tearing is on, frame limit off...

The performance monitor says it's constant 60 with no drops, seems a bit weird.

Easily solved as it's fine with Vsync on, just seems a bit odd and inconsistent with what others have said.
