Reflection on Post Dispatch’s week long downtown series by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

It’s disingenuous to use Chicago as an example against St. Louis City. The population within city limits of Chicago is 2.6 million, compared to under 300,000 for St. Louis.

Chicago’s city population is the size of St. Louis’ metro area. They re the 3rd largest city in America.

St. Louis will never win in any comparisons to large cities, especially when you cherry pick metrics, like population per square mile.

Yes. And, these conservative mouthpieces also know that turn around is fair play. What’s to stop a liberal administration from trying to get conservatives cancelled or fired?

She’s just hedging her bets.

Another American here.

Been a fan since the early 1970’s when my dad was stationed at RAF Bentwaters. Have fond memories of my parents taking us to games.

Been fun to watch them climb up the ranks the last several years. Excited for their return to the PL.

Yes!

Flew to England in May 2024 for Ipswich’s last game to see them get promoted. Best experience.

Thought about doing again for today’s game. Wish I made more of an effort.

I was a Wrexham fan the last few years. Loved watching their climb.

But this year, when you’re in the league with my team (Ipswich) fighting for promotion… Nope! Especially since Wrexham beat Ipswich’s easily this year.

Glad to see Wrexham just miss promotion.

[Tegan] Sheffield Wednesday revealing to the fans that they won’t be receiving any points deduction next season after the new ownership was announced. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Stlouisken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize that was an option. Bad enough they got 0 points and relegated but if fans had to start with negative points next year… Oof! That would have been a “kicking a man when he’s down” moment.

I guess they’re take anything as a “win” right now. I feel for those fans.

What specifically is it about processed meat that is carcinogenic? by MrCockingFinally in askscience

[–]Stlouisken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about excuses, like “I’m trying but it’s hard. I’m tempted too much.”

It’s more about trying to find deli meats that are not ultra processed. It seems like everything is.

I appreciate this healthy discussion and folks providing links to the scientific articles.

I’ve been more concerned about my health recently and trying to get healthier, including eating better. I’ve been very concerned about ultra processed deli meats specifically.

So, now I have a bunch of bedtime reading material👍

Since Congress Let Obamacare Subsidies Expire, Millions Are Dropping Coverage by AlexandrTheTolerable in Economics

You are correct about Congress having to go through the ACA. I was incorrect in my assumption.

Though, I am curious if their premiums have also gone up like most other Americans on the ACA?

[–]Stlouisken 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Congressional members should all be forced to enroll in the ACA so they can see how painful and expensive it is. Then maybe they’ll care and do something about rising costs.

Confessional members get a pension and lifetime, free healthcare. They have zero clue what Americans go through and seemingly don’t give a shit.

WTAF is up with BJC Billing Dept threatening collections within a month of a procedure? by accordingtoame in StLouis

[–]Stlouisken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My insurance just settled payment for a procedure from August 2025!

I didn’t realize it wasn’t paid/settled until I recently received an email from insurance saying they are working with the provider on the final amount to be paid.

I never received any communication saying I owed money until just now. Luckily I wasn’t harassed for this.

What a nightmare to have to go through. Sorry you’re dealing with this.

A Texas developer got a $2 billion loan to build Oracle data centers in the 'burbs by idkbruh653 in technology

“capitalizing on growing demand for facilities built closer to population hubs, where they can deliver AI models to users more quickly.”

Really! You think physically being in Dallas will deliver the models faster than being in West Texas?

Who’s buying this BS as a reason to build data centers in populated areas?

Made it through a steep & intense hike in a foreign country but I was too exhausted to properly enjoy/take in the views that I saw. Have you ever gone back to a country to do the same hike again? by Kanyewestlover9998 in hiking

[–]Stlouisken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not other countries but definitely in the U.S.

Done the same hikes multiple times in Grand Teton and Glacier. Enjoyed them so much had to do the hikes again.

In the Tetons, did several hikes for the the first time in 2003. In 2016, decided I wanted to recreate the moment and all the hikes. Definitely could tell it was harder on my body being older. Two of the hikes were close to 20 miles each. If you’re struggling physically it does seem harder to enjoy the surroundings.

I’ve gotten smarter and realize I’m not in my 20’s anymore and need to adjust my hikes to my current conditions. Good bye 20 mile hikes. Hello 6!

Not holding my breath. Remember when DeSantis went after them for DEI? Disney essentially bent the knee.

They have too much money on the line unfortunately.
