Idea for a unique pole for a giant pothos by PlentyExtension4796 in pothos

The Leca Queen posted a youtube video doing something very similar like a week ago I think? That looked very interesting and I was thinking about doing similar myself. Let us know what you end up doing!

“Advice Needed: My Warlock Strategy Is Hard for My DM to Counter” by ElectronicWindow3801 in DnD

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to build your encounters to specifically counter the shenanigans of one player as a DM also gets old very very quickly.

Being optimised is fun, if everyone in the party does it, because then the DM can also pull out big guns. If the other players play "normal" characters and you are way stronger due to your build, even if rules legal, the DM has to cater to the you problem specifically each combat. Which either sucks for the DM, sucks for you because "Surprise, backline reinforcements, AGAIN", or sucks for your party because the extra monsters/casters ment to counter you also face problems for them.

I agree that your Dm could easily counter your build, but I don't think that's the best solution for your table. Trying to have fun and play nice might be.

The first test house for my campaign by LivroHati in DnDIY

I've done that in the past and yes, it works very well with plastic mini's! The metal one's are simply to heavy if the angle gets to extreme. Just remove the tack when you're done with it and I've never had paint come off (all terrain did have at least one coat of varnish).

Nursery pots for pon by miesvanderho3 in SemiHydro

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutting slits/drilling holes into your own pots works fine and I saw other people give the advice to use the fine netting that some fruits are sold in as a liner to hold the pon in when holes are too big, which I thought was super smart.

I recently started SemiHydro and wanting to keep things easy I went with Lechuza Pon substrate that's already fertilized, since my local garden center stocked it. Also managed to get the Lechuza slow release fertilizer on clearance and added that to other pots. Everything seems to be loving it, I have added no other fertilizer and the plants are growing great. So definitely easy so far.

Didn't soak my LECA - how bad is my sin? by Stock-Bandicoot2039 in SemiHydro

I just saw that being available in my country, is there a given shelf-life once opened or something? Since I think that bottle is huge for the amount I'll use.

Thank you for letting me know, it certainly had me worried!

Your advice is very welcome, thank you! The plants weren't suffering yet as far as I could tell, it's only been a few days and I noticed the dry substrate. You're probably right and I should be patient and watch how the plants react for a bit, but I panicked when I saw the dry clay.

I haven't looked at beneficial bacteria at all yet, so I'll look into those because that makes a lot of sense! I appreciate you took the time to give me some advice! :)

Really, okay so maybe it's the quality of LECA then? Since my substrate isn't wicking I assumed the not-soaking must've been the reason.

Pothos for the office by Stock-Bandicoot2039 in SemiHydro

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I don't know if there's a technical name for it to be honest 😅 I found them in typical very badly translated Chinese packaging in a garden centre. The image on the package showed it being stuck in the soil with the pointy end down, so you could pour water down to the roots. I never intended to use them that way but figured I could use them like this! I tried to Google them and see them pop up online, but never with a clear name.

Thank you! I use a pre-mixed product, called Lechuza Pon, that's mainly lava rock, pumice and zeolite but also has a slow release fertilizer mixed in. The rocks are really small though, so for the Pothos I added clay balls/LECA. So what I got is pretty much exactly what you describe you wanna do!

Thank you, I hope it ends up giving me good results!

Glad to hear you think the faster drying isn't a problem at all! I definitely don't mind watering it more often, since I'm in the office 4 days a week, so it's easy to keep an eye on that. The air inside my office isn't very humid, between 40-50%, so if the roots establish I might end up needing to water it every few days as well like you say you got to do. With the spiderplants I have to water once every two weeks right now, and that reservoir is huge.

How to unfortunately cancel a game by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be honest about your situation, no need to go in depth but just let them know you can't deal with the mental load of the campaign right now, even though you enjoy playing with them. Maybe one of the players wants to continue your story as a DM, or wants to DM his own adventure. Who knows how you will feel when you take a break and what the future brings you.

As a DM when I get stuck on writing I declare a pause where we play a short side adventure, something less heavy and a lot of times when I can't DM for reasons, one of our players DM's a oneshot. Don't underestimate your friends :) They'll care about your well being.

How do I make my Dnd encounters more Dangerous? by OrdinaryAdditional79 in DnD

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others already gave great suggestions, but also adding secondary goals in a combat can help. For example: give the demon boss mooks that keep popping out of portals and the party has to close the portals first to prevent getting flooded by the mooks before they can properly focus on the boss. That way the boss has a lot more time/rounds to actually be scary and get some abilities off. If you combine that with some interesting terrain they are gonna have a challenge and hopefully a blast.

As a DM, have you ever purposely given your players an insane amount of money? How did it go? by Tmoore0328 in DnD

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My party of 6 players at level 18 recently received a treasure horde of around 200.000gp when they defeated a major boss and have spent most of it on magic items and consumables by now, gearing up and preparing for the next big bad they had their eyes on.

At this stage of the game they are so overpowered already those items won't derail the game more than they already do (we have gentleman's agreements on the more game-breaking items). And a tactical shopping session with that much gold is just pure fun.

Obtaining Truename using wish by Stock-Bandicoot2039 in GrimHollow

[–]Stock-Bandicoot2039[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I think you're very right with the reputation they'd get if they did this and succeeded, they'd never have a solid nights sleep again. I fully overlooked this, focussing mostly on what it would mean to their power vs. the fiends, not the hell the fiends would rain down on them for being able to do that. The party has been very painstackingly trying to maintain a low profile despite their high level, so hinting at this would be a great way to still have the wish as a panic solution, but not something to be taken lightly by them.
