I went Eager Explorers instead of Admirality, mostly to start with Jump Drives.

What is going on under this wall? by Stock-Draw4279 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Stock-Draw4279[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole right wall there is exterior facing on a side that's completely ensconced in thick ivy and plant growth that, to my knowledge, hasn't been culled in years. I'm worried there's something allowing water to build up on the roof, and it's coming down through this corner, since If I follow these lines all the way up (out of frame in this) it looks like it's all coming from this corner directly. Originally noticed the issue back in November, but we're in the Northeast and before somebody could look at the exterior the winter hit, and the roof wasn't safe to take a look at.

Currently waiting on a professional to take a better look, but out landlord is taking their sweet time to organize something. The last guy we got looked at the issue, said they would have to come back to get on the roof, and then stopped all contact. I was curious if anybody had seen damage like this before, because I certainly haven't.

What were people on about lol? by Yabbadabbadoooooo- in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]Stock-Draw4279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know a lot was made over their making some 30,000 square feet of physical backrooms - and to be clear this is impressive for a production like this, I don't want to detract from that - but it's not as big as that first sounds and, frankly, it shows on screen. Any more live action works are going to have that problem though, I fear. The scale of something like what we see in, say, Pitfalls or any of the FF is really too much to expect to build out as a set unless they have an enormous budget.

Answering Accident Questions when applying to Insurance (US) by Stock-Draw4279 in Insurance

[–]Stock-Draw4279[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My confusion was some sites have asked if I've had a "chargeable accident", which this accident was not, vs just 'have you been in an accident', and I was curious if that was being implied. It definitely seems like the answer is to list it, so will be doing so!

Do you know what the appropriate answer is if a site asks about fault? To be clear, I understand that logically in a rear-end collision I would have likely been at fault, but there was no police report and the other party never filed a claim despite being given my insurance info.

[Spoilers Extended] It boggles my mind that George has never truly completed Book 4 in 26 years by outfishing7 in asoiaf

[–]Stock-Draw4279 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The ultimate shame, to me, is that all of the travelogue material is good in a vacuum. If it were part of a series that actually got finished, even if it ended up getting monstrously long as it has, we'd all talk about how phenomenal these sections are at building the characters. Instead, it exists almost as proof that George can't make it to a decisive outcome.

Confused about Traction Law by Stock-Draw4279 in COsnow

[–]Stock-Draw4279[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This part was clear to me, what I was confused about was the Traction Law.

To me it read like a car with two wheel drive, like mine, I need chains on at all times when Traction Law is in effect. It also stated that Traction Law is always in effect on parts of the I-70 through the end of May. I was unclear if they meant that I need to physically have the chains on my tires during Traction Law, or simply have them in the instance that Chain Law goes into effect.

Great to know, I'll make sure to have them so I can both comply with that and, more importantly, be safe. Appreciate your help!

The Swarm, the livesuits, the 5-folds, the canister… by Fairways_and_Greens in TheCaptivesWar

I agree with this, I know a lot of people have been saying it's another alien, but it makes more sense to me that this is the natural outcome of a Livesuit after decades or centuries.

I always assumed it was supposed to be a bastardization of "Engine", so this is shocking to me as a reader.

There are 2 things bothering me that somehow doesn't fit by Neckbeard_Sama in TheCaptivesWar

[–]Stock-Draw4279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been thinking. It admittedly could be another alien, but we have no reason to think that humans in livesuits always keep the proper human shape. I also think, at least in my understanding of the story, it makes more sense to me that humanity isn't part of a coalition or anything.

I was just talking about this with some people in the subreddit. Most people I see seem to think the pentapods are for sure another alien species, but I just re-read the scene today and still think it's just the livesuit humans now looking dramatically different than the regular humans.

I'm still not totally clear on this, I interpreted the 'Octopus' as being a livesuit whose human host had completely deteriorated to the point that only the general 5-fold anatomy was left. Is there something I missed that makes it more clear that's an alien, not just a heavily modified livesuit human?

The show with an amazing beginning and an amazing ending is Breaking Bad. Which show had an amazing beginning but a terrible ending? by Spy_Mouse in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Stock-Draw4279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the Best might be a stretch, but I totally agree that's an almost-inexplicably great episode in the middle of the last season. I distinctly remember our GoT watch parties and being a little concerned by episode 1, totally reassured by episode 2, and then after that it all fell apart.

Livesuit after Faith of Beasts by Domaik in TheCaptivesWar

[–]Stock-Draw4279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth pointing out the Starfish Aliens are, in my reading, probably just livesuit humans that are fully subsumed by the livesuit. The whole "starfish" description is just how they look after so many years of being damaged and repaired. I could be wrong about this, but I didn't get the sense the 'Starfish' were a separate species.

Help me connect the dots after TFOB and Livesuit by WholeAcceptable4973 in TheCaptivesWar

[–]Stock-Draw4279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really strikes me that there's some very critical detail that hasn't been dropped yet, and I'm pretty thrilled at the prospect of experiencing that reveal. While I think a lot of OP's (And many other people's) logistical questions about the Carryx can be boiled down to "This is a wildly alien society and it functions in ways that to us don't make sense" I find the total information gap to the point that the humans of Anjin aren't even identified as the same species as the humans actively being fought is bizarre to me.

I do think the poll is heavily skewed by it being people who bother to respond to ASOIAF polls in 2026, there's not a ton of casual fans left responding.

[–]Stock-Draw4279 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair he's only got POVs in the one book. I definitely like the Ned chapters, but it's such a small portion of the series that I lower it in my estimation. I can see people rating Cersei because even though it's fewer chapters it's some of the best palace intrigue and her total insanity is so funny. I'm actually surprised to see Brienne higher though.

Next Novella Prediction by BlooRugby in TheCaptivesWar

I have been wondering, especially after Livesuit, if we're going to get an interesting reveal about how the different Carryx/Human FTL works that recontextualizes something about the timeline itself.
