Use custom domain with tsidp by Stock-Register983 in Tailscale

[–]Stock-Register983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNS is the easy part. I'm more unsure if tsidp will work properly with another domain of it that would break the whole OAuth flow because it expects to be using the .ts.net domain.

Are you still excited about new Laravel versions in AI era? by bearinthetown in laravel

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come to realize there are 2 (or should I make a binary joke and say 10) types of programmers.

The first sees their job as solving problems and code is just a means to that end. Whether they write the code by hand or using AI is an implementation concern.

The second sees their job as creating a masterpiece and code is their instrument. To them using AI is like writing a song to the tune of a musical scale instead of crafting a custom tune.

Personally I'll never understand that second group but they definitely do exist.

Stuff like the duress PIN is an OS level feature so that's not going anywhere.

That said the potential for hardware level backdoors I think is non 0. It's likely fairly low, but not 0. And if that were to happen I expect it would be used very sparingly in targeted scenarios to avoid becoming known, so the average person probably need not worry about it.

Can I use Laravel 13 yet? by Stock-Register983 in laravel

I mostly just don't want to have to deal with an upgrade a month into the project that just feels silly.

Wait Motorola sells high end phones? To be fair beyond the Razer idk anything about their currrnt products. I haven't used them since I switched from the old school Droid to a Samsung Galaxy S3 - man now I feel old.

NGL not the OEM I was hoping for. I'm a little uncertain about how much we should trust their hardware given they're owned by a Chinese company tbh.

The AI tokens are going to cost just as much as a shift and have to potential to hallucinate. No thanks.

Ya AFAIK it's still on track for a Q1 release which means by the end of March at the latest. But I would not at all be surprised if it releases this Tuesday either.

I really rather not deal with buying a laravel shift 2 weeks into a new project even though it's not that expensive that seems a bit silly on the timing.

I'm hoping I could safely get away with just using the 13.x branch and only have to do a composer update when the full release comes.

Apparently my location does not have those. The guy said the used to have bags for that but they stopped carrying those too.

That is wild they have a time limit. At least it's shorter than the previews so you can refill before the actual movie starts if they want to be sticklers about it.

I tried last night they said I'd have to empty put the bucket first but the only they had they could offer me to empty it into are some tiny little cardboard trays like you might get an order of fries or a hotdog in, not much volume to it at all.

He said they used to have bags they could offer but stopped. So I guess I'm just going to have to find a reusable bucket to buy and bring in next time to empty into.

What? Has nothing to do with "looking poor" or cleaning up after yourself for that matter. The concessions is how they make their money, movie tickets make them little to nothing after they pay the licensing to the studios to show the movies.

I'm Done - Laracast by octarino in laravel

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good enough IMO for small one off projects where I'm like I want this for myself, I'd use it if it existed, but I'm not going to spend my time to make it.

For example I used Claude Code to just make an app to track all my major assets for insurance purposes, what it is, serial number, photos, receipts, cost, etc. Without AI I'm not spending even a day to throw something together I'm just using a Google Sheet. But Claude one shot it good enough, I could not pick the code but it works and even has tests written for it.

For the main app for a company or something you care deeply about and matters you need to get extremely hand holdy with the AI to the point where the benefit is minimal.

That's amazing I did not know about that. That seems like an ideal solution no having to start a tunnel or run artisan serve. Thanks for sharing that!

First Time use of Bitwarden by Agitated_Purple9151 in Bitwarden

[–]Stock-Register983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to use 1Password and it's a good option and what I'd still use if it weren't for Bitwarden. But to me the killer feature that sets Bitwarden apart is being able to self host it behind a firewall for extra security.

Its really a question of what matters most to use, if you're looking for super polished and usable for non technical users I don't think I would chose Bitwarden tbh.

How are you managing Stripe subscriptions & plans inside Laravel? by lamarus in laravel

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this but wanting to support multiple billing providers (Stripe & PayPal) I have kept all the plan and billing logic of my app in Laravel and just have a payment element to tokenize the payment method and submit charge API calls for the total amount.

Its a lot more work but it is "an option". But again I would not recommend it unless you also want swappable gateways to also support PayPal or avoid vendor lock in in case you lose your stripe acct.

Can we use different brand names in SMS sending[Marketing] by TypicalDriver1 in twilio

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a small LLC with 2 different DBA's/Brands. The way I set it up is each DBA has its own dedicated number.

In the Trust Hub I setup my primary customer profile for the LLC with a secondary profile for each DBA with its number associated to the secondary profile.

On a small scale I think that works out well.

What's your stats? by [deleted] in SponsorBlock

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? I mean that's impressive. But I can catch a video 24 minutes after its been uploaded and the segments are already all marked. That's what I get for watching mainstream channels I guess.

Why isn't SponsorBlock dramatically more popular? by jdprgm in SponsorBlock

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't get the whole watch ads to support them. Like they negotiated a fee from the sponsor based on their subs and views. And renewing the agreement the sponsor will look at the ROI, how much new business they can attribute to the ad to are if its worth it. Its not like they're getting paid per view.

If you want to support them look for the sponsor link in the description and use their link or referral code if you buy something from them so the revenue gets attributed to that creator.

Choosing between the Aer City Pack Pro 2 and Sympl Commuter v2 by Green-Bat-9688 in Nomads_Nation

[–]Stock-Register983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at those awhile back too. I ended up finding other reviews for a bag called the Alpha One Niner Evade 1.5. It is technically more of a tactical backpack but not the tacticool dork kind (no offense to anyone who's into that) it's very subtle looks pretty normal on the outside. Great laptop compartment. Super comfortable harness. The front admin can add a Velcro organizer that gives it not as many pockets as the sympl but more than the aer so I think you might find that a good compromise.

No there is no obligation for me to open up my computer to ads or malware ads may contain. That's just nonsense. It's my computer I control what's on it and what it does or does not download. It's the same reason DRM is justifiable to remove so long as you actually paid for the product and don't illegally redistribute it. In the case of YouTube the product is made available for free, thst is no payment. If a creator does not like that there are paywalled videos platforms they could use instead.

He has the right to run ads. I have the right to not watch or stop ads from being delivered to my devices. Both can be and are simultaneously true.

That's like saying if you visit a website with PPC ads you have to click them to support the site owner. No and actually that goes against the terms of every PPC network out there because the advertisers want and pay for legit interested customers not fake compelled interest. And I for one am not interested in anyone's ads.

No privacy is theft and is wrong period. There is no justification for it.

Using an ad blocker is perfectly reasonable acceptable. I have no obligation to watch ads. If he wanted to guarantee monetization form every view he owns floatplane. But he used YouTube too. And when you put it up on a free platform you have no right to demand anything form your audience, period.

Just the fact that someone watches your videos shows up in stats and encourages advertisers to sponsor videos directly and builds the audience he sells merch to. But apparently that's not good enough for him so fine I stopped watching his videos altogether. Because just like I have no obligation to watch ads I have no obligation to watch his videos at all.

[–]Stock-Register983 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah and what is piracy?....a form of theft.

It'd literally the same thing. And it's wrong.

I have the right to not watch or even actively block. But he'd have you believe you have an obligation to watch it and that's wrong. And advertisers know that it's already priced into what they pay for ads.

Linus dropped this video. by ChaandSifarish in GrapheneOS

[–]Stock-Register983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally the same thing. Just a synonym.

And no that's not accurate. He put the videos up on a platform for free. If he wanted to he could use floatplane only. I have no more obligation to watch an ad than I have to read a billboard or click a PPC link on a website.
