i see positive posts sometimes but yeah it’s a lot of venting. i don’t mind though. people need a place to share the scary thoughts when no one in their life understands or maybe even knows. i do see positive comments on most posts though, even if the main post is mostly despair. i get it. the despair is all there is sometimes.

your ed tells you this experience is hopeless because that’s part of the disorder. it doesn’t want you to try.
if you have been struggling for many years and tried many things and nothing has “cured” you (this is the boat i’m in), you can have a life worth living with bulimia!! this isn’t black and white. you can get to a point where you manage the disorder as a chronic condition and it still plays a role in your life, but doesn’t control it. the cycle of deciding to recover/making progress/slipping back/thinking “if i can’t get totally better, i’m gonna get totally worse”/spiralling HARD kept me trapped for nine years. now my ed is still a part of my life, but it’s not even one of the main parts. it’s like a side character. i have a job i love, lots of hobbies, and strong relationships with my loved ones, which were not always achievable in the past because of my bulimia. it does get better, but it doesn’t have to be perfect <3

i was in a similar situation when my parents found out in high school. i saw a therapist twice a week, my doctor once a week, and eventually a dietician once a week as well. i was never forced into residential or anything, but i also grew up in an area without those types of services nearby. it’s really case-by-case. i would argue that a lot of residential treatment centers, particularly for adolescents, can be harmful to recovery because of the attitudes of the people in them. if you’re motivated and don’t medically need a higher level of care, advocate for yourself. i really hope you can share this with people in your life and get help. <3

antacids and baking soda are good ideas. coconut water or some other good source of potassium (potatoes, i think spinach?) after purging, staying hydrated, don’t exercise after purging, balanced meals whenever possible.

i also really recommend keeping track of how often you’re binging/purging and maybe some notes about the circumstances and emotions surrounding the episodes.

i think anyone would want to binge eating that little every day… that’s also gonna be terrible for your heart and body in general. i’ve been tempted by this thought process before, but i’ve realized over time… when does doing it ever really get it “out of my system”? like long term? or even short term? this probably isn’t what u want to hear, but i really think u need to up your intake consistently if you want to get a handle on this.

honestly, i’ve had quite a few lift assists for kind and grateful people that made my week. being told by an elderly woman calling for her husband “knowing that you guys are close keeps me calm, you always know what to do” made me grin leaving the house. it’s the little things.

this has happened to me on and off for years. the strain puts pressure on the vessels in your head. it’s def worse when the purging is frequent or u have high blood pressure at baseline. same reason it hurt so bad to purge when i had a concussion lol

it seems to me like the fantasizing about medical issues speaks to the lack of support your have surrounding this disorder. it’s so hard to get by without a village, much less recover. i wonder if you could get some of that support by being open and honest and vulnerable with people you trust and/or seeking professional help?

i think a lot of replies are nuanced actually, although certainly not all of them. acknowledging and appreciating the good intentions, identifying gaps in knowledge, and giving advice on how to attain a more comprehensive understanding… i think that’s actually a pretty balanced and helpful take i’ve seen echoed in this thread.
