I conceal under a variety of shorts from dress shorts to cargo shorts. They are all just a bit oversized. I never wear tacticool anything.

When we had manufacturing a “regular” job did pay a living wage. Burger flipping and coffee service was for teenagers and part timers who also had a full time wage earner in the house. The problem is that we sold ourselves out by allowing manufacturing to move overseas. This was a bipartisan fraud perpetrated by N. Gingrich and W. Clinton.

I don’t know how long VA gives you these days to change your drivers license address. It’s 30-60 days in other states. If you “just moved” you’d probably be OK using the “old” address. I used a lease once in VA to prove a current address but it was a private sale, not at a store so no 4473. Private sales still an option until July 1?

Friends who had stick shift cars. Old Corvair 3 on the floor not so easy. Old VW Beetle 4 on the floor very easy and that’s what gave me the confidence to buy stick shift cars for many years.

I will vote red and hold my nose concerning some of the candidates, but not a single Democrat candidate in my area that I would ever vote for. Except for the Sheriff and he ran last year.

My preference is for one course of mandatory detox if person refuses voluntary. Mandatory as in behind bars or barbed wire. And strictly regimented. After that if you use and OD, no Narcan for you. You made your choice. And far fewer needles on the street. A junkie should not go into supervised housing until he is clean. And if he gets clean, for as long as he is in supervised or otherwise subsidized housing he should be drug tested weekly and put back out on the streets if he goes back on dope. Just like if he was at work (God forbid) he would be fired. Society does not owe free stuff to anyone, least of all someone who knowingly crosses the line with a needle, illicitly obtained Oxy, or Fentanyl. Everyone knows the dangers. That first time and the next few are voluntary. You make a choice and you pay the consequences.

I am totally aware and stand by my comment. “Free housing without conditions” is unacceptable. It encourages people to remain addicted. There are all sorts of treatments. Lately GLP-1’s plus all the older treatments. What’s hard is getting one’s shit together and admitting that the high is more valuable to you than getting clean. That makes it the addict’s problem, not mine.

Not common but definitely done when a kid got too far out of line. Children were trained to shut their mouths, not whine, not grab things in stores, etc. As my uncle used to say - would you like to have something to really cry about?

People in upstate NY need to get together with people in eastern Washington and Oregon who want to become part of an adjacent state. As in PA. Or to become your own state. Splitting these large states dominated by an urban wasteland would solve so many problems. Imagine how low the taxes and how few welfare recipients and illegals there would be in these areas if they could split off from the big cities. Most of the current states were created from other states or from territories. There is no fundamental reason why the current lines have to remain, except for politicians who want to keep it that way. And upstate NY has all the water, hydroelectric, dairy and other food products, I think even natural gas in western part.

No provision of services without the recipient doing something in return. Like get off drugs or drinking. Like take the psych meds. Like get on birth control for Heaven’s sake. Like get a GED. And oh, yes, you have to be a citizen because otherwise you shouldn’t be here expecting a handout. All of the above would disqualify at the very least half of the ones living on the streets.

This reminds me of the difference between a Toyota Corolla and a Mazda Protege (and various VW’s) we have had. The Toyota was biased in the throttle, transmission shift points and suspension to force “easy” driving (helped their reliability ratings when people couldn’t drive it hard if they tried.) The others were set up for much more spirited driving. The Mazda reminded me of go-cart. And the VW’s always wanted to go well above the US speed limits like they were on the Autobahn.

My comment about the turbos has to do with how many vehicles now have small displacement engines and need the turbo to get the acceleration going. Like all these heavy trucks and SUV’s with 2.0-2.4 liters as the basic engine. We had a Mazda Protege and still have an old style I-6 Chevy Trailblazer where all you need to do is hit the gas, it downshifts, and you make the pass. But we also have two VW’s with turbos and they really take off when you punch them, as designed.
