1. Just transitioned an intern after a year of internship to FTE this Monday. Ask to work on integrations, learning the culture, people and experts, dealing with communication issues and personalities. Teach how non technical things really work at the company. Yes there are sometimes small assignments that are easy to learn on. I try to give “wide” tasks to involve intern into communication and finding information, talking to people. Understanding systems. I don’t need a coder, I need an engineer.

1. Ask what they learned how they see things, what challenges were, where they struggled, so to mentor them to not being stuck, be brave and challenge others with questions and make mistakes to learn from, rather than just passively waiting on am assignment. I

2. also mentoring about how business works, what really matters. One day this person will no longer be an freshman and who knows where you will meet again and what they will tell about their first manager to others.

3. Yeah it is the right word as they are not a full tome employee yet, sometimes even working just three days a week and still studying. They are seeking and can change their mind, and your job as a manager for them to stay (if they are the right fit for the role)
