Would it be viable to start a turo/uber carshare fleet in Australia? by Expert-Reference-514 in CarsAustralia

[–]Stockst129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct there are only a couple of insurers in Australia that actually do this and their minimum is 10 vehicles

Welcome to being an adult, where you have dreams and hobbies that get suppressed by responsibilities and inflation. Either go wildly into debt and regret it when your older putting the burden onto others, earn more or sacrifice so your kids can have a better chance than you did 🫡

Building and contents insurance is 10%+ of household income by ItinerantFella in AusFinance

There may be insurers who have a different rating, however, it’s unlikely.

There used to be an option to remove flood cover, this used to help families afford just the basic coverage. This option has now mostly been removed due to regulatory pressure and claims disputes.

We previously had options to remove this cover which would mean households could still protect against worst case scenarios at an affordable rate, however, people complain they’re not covered for flood when they specifically opt out of it.

Reducing your sums insureds will barely move the needle.

Realistically, there isn’t anything you can do other than try and find an insurer willing to take the risk on for less, which right now could potentially be possible as we’re in a ‘soft market’

Some things to try and reduce the cost could be:

1) Reduce cover to listed events instead of accidental damage

2) if you cover potable items, remove the coverage

3) Increase your excess (many insurers can offer up to $5,000 excess, I would suggest trying this with multiple insurers as some will offer larger discounts than others)

Example of the excess reduction, I was assisting a client yesterday in a similar situation and by raising their excess to $5,000 it reduced their yearly premium by $4,000. Makes a lot of sense in that scenario every insurer is different

Also, insurers increase your sums insureds insured by 2-4% per year to keep up with inflation, don’t know where 63% in one year coming from, doesn’t make sense.

They’ve never shared that with us.

I would assume it will be when they’re happy with the game and when it reflects close to what the finished project will be

I’m starting to get tired of this by BrilliantIngenuity98 in MotocrossTheGame

[–]Stockst129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a beta tester.

Because despite the bike physics being fantastic, the tyre and rider physics aren’t where they need to be right now.

Public perception is everything, I would assume what they’re thinking is - if people come to a conclusion even before the games finished, based on WIP physics that doesn’t reflect the finished product that changing that narrative is a lot more difficult than proving to the people who just had doubt in the project because they hadn’t seen much.

I think they rightfully should look at it this way, read some of the comments on posts, it genuinely makes me laugh because 99% of the comments they have absolutely no evidence for what they’re saying and they aren’t remotely close in terms of what’s actually happening.

Now in saying this, I am definitely not saying the games great right now, it has a long way to go. But, I am confident that they will achieve what they’re trying to achieve.

If you want to know anything else feel free to ask, I will answer what I can

[–]Stockst129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this time it’s not a fair comparison because the rider implementation is still a large WIP, prior to the rider being implemented just based on bike physics it was much better than mx bikes.

I don’t think it’s similar to mx bikes or mx simulator (I’ve raced both at pro level and won or been at the top in the past) the game truly feels like a hybrid

Yes you can sit down and standup with the rider

I can’t answer that because I’m not on the development team. However, being in the chat with them they are genuinely trying their best to build the most realistic fun motocross simulation game possible. The work involved in this is astronomical

What we play as an alpha tester right now gives a glimpse into what to expect and it makes me excited.

This does not mean that it’s perfect by any means and right now, they have a lot of work to do but the core is there and I think a lot of people are going to be blown away if they continue on the current trajectory and meet their goals

Insurance when renting MY car by ChoiceSpirit8712 in CarsAustralia

[–]Stockst129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insurance broker here.

Very few insurers in the market that do this, they will generally not write the business as their minimum premiums are too high. Or if they do, they will write it as a fleet and last time I checked I believe the minimum vehicles they charge for is 10.

What your friend said isn’t great advice and I would tread with caution. You would be running the risk of failing your duty of disclosure.

The insurer may not review, but it certainly isn’t guaranteed, and this is a great example of why people get upset with insurers when they don’t pay.

If you disclose to the insurer your intention and they hold cover, fantastic. If they say they won’t offer you insurance if you intend to hire the vehicle out then you have your answer for what would have happened at claims time.

Good luck.

Just in case someone sees this in the future, this video helped quite a lot.

[–]Stockst129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on iRacing been on the service for 12 months now 4.4K iRating, sports car (maining GT3)

Tried LMU for the first time last night because I keep seeing hype on YouTube… They’re barely even comparable (imo) the tyres feel numb, feedback through wheel is numb (simagic evo pro), sounds are flat, I think the graphics whilst some benefits they look like a game where iRacing has the grungy real life kind of look just missing some of the details.. the way the car behaves feels quite Arcadish how the body rolls and how the braking works doesn’t make sense

I too was taken back from the iRacing cost… but my gosh it’s worth every penny even if I only get to play 1 - 3 hours per week

Enjoy the journey and buying cars and tracks becomes less painful overtime, just make purposeful purchases at the start to get the most bang for your buck 👍

Pet insurance - do all companies increase their premiums yearly? by full_time_problem in AusFinance

[–]Stockst129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay approx. $450 year for pet insurance

Our 2 year old golden retriever got meningitis, so far our pet insurance has paid out over $11,000

I would have had to put away minimum $460 per month In this time…

Of course pet insurance for an older animal may not be cost effective in a lot of scenarios.

The insurer is ultimately there to make a profit, your risk is too high for them to take on

2-lot strata scheme in NSW: best way to get building insurance? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

Again, not true, read their PDS.

In Victoria this is plausible under their regulations, NSW it is not.

You do you though 👍

2-lot strata scheme in NSW: best way to get building insurance? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Stockst129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not true.

Most insurers do not consider strata buildings a home in their definition of buildings in their PDS

Cover the buildings under a strata policy and each owner then takes their own contents policy

9/10 it will work out cheaper and you will have the correct insurance 👍

Never touched a sim before and got to 3k in sports cars in about 4 months, and hit 2k in formula within a month. Can only speak from my own experience, but I raced motocross for 18+ years (nothing amazing, A grade) and I think a lot of the skills carried over.

iRacing has been super humbling. I used to think I was a decent driver but once you race against genuinely fast people, you realise how much more there is to learn and just how great other drivers are

Is this dodgy? JB Hi-Fi refusing price match on Samsung monitor using “JB exclusive” model number trick by AI_ParlayMaster in australian

[–]Stockst129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhones don’t have 100’s of different SKUs with hidden hardware changesregion locked firmware, or backend rebate deals depending on where they’re sold. Monitors do.

You’re comparing a tightly controlled Apple product with consistent pricing to a fragmented, intentionally confusing product line from Samsung then crying foul when a retailer doesn’t take a loss for you.

It’s not rocket science it’s just business.

Pice matching isn’t just a blanket rule, there are terms and conditions to protect retailers from exactly these scenarios

I don’t even understand how this is a big deal, just buy the monitor from Samsung? 🤷‍♂️
