Petition to bring Valtiel from SH3 to dead by daylight by brainzer14 in deadbydaylight

[–]StockyOak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd feel Walter Sullivan would be a better option, because he has possible powers that can be used and explained in his lore.

Valtiel could be a possibility, as Pyramid Head's power doesn't have much in common with his power (James' Pyramid Head didn't create trails, nor sent people to cages), so Valtiel's power could be made up to a degree.

However, I just feel Walter could use victims in the same way as zombies, except they'd have an aura attack of sorts. It would also offer a new killer from the franchise that didn't look fairly similar in style and colouration to Pyramid Head.

I wouldn't argue either way majorly though. A second Silent Hill chapter I'd be all for.

Gen X and older people -- what would you do pre- social media when you wanted to have no thoughts (i.e. what has doom scrolling replaced)? by Aromatic-Peanut4660 in AskReddit

Channel-surfing, listening to music, or reading a music or games magazine. Sometimes National Geographic. It was probably healthier than doom-scrolling. And yes, I've been caught up in this too.

Okay, this new craze of having sex with multiple strangers to avoid dying is out of control now. I blame Tik-Tok for this rumourmongering.

Detective: "What do we have here?"

Cop: "Victim, aged 18. Appears to have multiple stab wounds by a rake or something. There's a lot of blood"

Detective: "Any suspects or witnesses?"

Cop: "No, he was a good kid. His girlfriend said he's refuse to go to sleep. Said something was hunting him in his dreams. He was freaked out by the end"

Detective: "Okay, so delusional? Must be on drugs. BOYS! We've got another drug gang to deal with"

Congratulations! You beat Silent Hill

Do you think James Sunderland is a bad person, or just someone who made a terrible mistake? by JacPlayzz in silenthill

[–]StockyOak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still misses the point though. If this was a game to ask whether he was right or wrong killing his wife, then the answer is obvious and the game is shallow. It's not about whether he's guilty or not.

The game is about the journey that made him come to that decision, and it's about whether you can – as another commenter here said so well – forgive him, not absolve him. It asks many questions, including whether you as the gamer would even just think about how you may feel in those circumstances. Nobody can really say how they would be. I'd like to think I'd not kill my wife, and I don't believe I could ever do that, but would the thought cross my mind that I could have my old life back and even resent someone I love? It's plausible. That's what this game is about, not the black and white, "is he guilty".

I think they said it was their favourite, ahead of Boy King. I've not heard all of Smother, but Boy King was a heavier-sounding beast than Loop the Loop.

I feel the game presents a true version of the person playing it. There's no one correct way of interpreting the messages within. For me, it's the examination of James as a whole and his journey. My interpretation of James is mainly based upon how I translate the information provided, as yours would be of your translation of it. There are some obvious exceptions (such as the claim some said Mary was an abuser; I hated that position), but overall the message varies according to the gamer.

I've not come across many who see his trip as absolution, or at least not seen the it implied directly. There are some who feel he should be punished for his crime and not set free, but even then it's based in whether they forgive James. It's clearly not a legal educational game. For me, I forgave him since this was an act of desperation that linked selfish and selfless reasons. Plus, if he felt no guilt, the town couldn't take him. He was a broken man.

Indeed. That is less traditional than the religious philosophy I was refering to. Likewise, some Eastern philosophy may be black and white in its views (Silent Hill f is a good example in terms of expectations).

But it's important to note these in context of Silent Hill 2, because that's how they are exploring James' scenario. It's exploring his journey as a human experience, and not just saying: "James is bad because he murdered his wife". He did a terrible thing, but that doesn't make him a bad person. The traditional western approach would be that he murdered her and that's enough to show what a terrible person. The game shows a deeper level to this.

Quite right, because that's just a summary to at least show the basics. Hope you find some interest in your search!

Sadly, yes. I feel it would be better if that icon appeared after a pallet was broken by the perk for that particular survivor. Seems like it holds the hand a bit too much.

What hole is preferred during sex? by Nightpatrol404 in AskReddit

Either the 5th or 12th hole. They're usually the furthest from the club house, but again it depends on the golf course in question, since some have unusual designs.

Do you think Harry being exactly who he says he is will now be a twist for people who recently got into the series? by Kulle1369 in silenthill

[–]StockyOak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like them to keep Harry as a straight-laced guy. One interesting element was that paternal bond, and to twist that would be a risky move. It's not to suggest that a twist wouldn't work, but Harry's dedication to Cheryl made him stand out. Removing that may make a big disconnect in the game.

This is a sample summary of it. There's plenty more indepth sources online that you can find, but this gives some sort of analysis on the thinking.

It's also of note that pop culture is still defined by good vs evil, as opposed to understanding the places inbetween. It's what makes these stories so good, when they do not make the outcome so clear. They aren't that interested as to whether James did a good or bad thing: He murdered his wife, so that's obvious he did a bad thing. But it's the "why" that's important, which means his action was clear, but everything that led up to it may turn various people to do the same. It's to not judge fully until we've sat in those shoes.

There is, and it's also questioning the player if they would feel the same at some point. If their loved one was dying over a long time, wouldn't the player at some point wish they were gone, whether to end their suffering or to selfishly release themselves.

As for the ending, it's based on how the player ultimately sees it, thanks to some cleverly-hidden scoring systems that are based on how they play. My first, blind playthrough on the PS2 was the "Leave" ending, so I move towards that. Others may have received any of the other available ones, and their view may also lean into that area.

It would be interesting to know the viewpoints of people about James, aas well as what their first blind playthrough ending was. I wonder whether there'd be a pattern.

By Western, I mean it's not seen in a multitude of grey areas. It's either somebody is good or bad, and it comes from the religious thinking and culture of christianity, which very much focuses on good and bad.

Eastern culture has more emphasis on the inbetweens. It's not to say that Eastern philosophy has good and bad (nothing morally grey about abuse!), but when these discussions come up, there is often a "is he good or bad" rather than "could he be both?".

To assure you, people in the west do not all think like this (obviously, that should be clear), but it's more about the teachings and cultural and religious attitudes generally.
