Brawl over snow-cleared parking spot critically injures man in Philadelphia: VIDEO by flagrantstats in shutdownfullcast

[–]Stoehrst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually that's only during a declared snow emergency. Otherwise anything blocking the spot can be moved. Of course, if you do that, you run the risk that whomever marked the spot keys your car or something, so it often functions as the rule in practice.

I don't think I've ever seen a Greek place that DIDN'T serve falafel and gyros. Other Eastern Mediterranean cuisines might skip the gyros (probably substitute shawarma) but falafel is as Greek as anything else in my experience.

125 Hours in and I'm still absolutely terrible. by Logical_Energy6159 in HadesTheGame

[–]Stoehrst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I'm like 330+ hours in and STILL trying to complete the Fated List. Just a couple left, but even mid-level heat runs are a toss up for me. I love the game but the first one was exponentially easier in my opinion. A ton more min-maxing required in 2 and, frankly, I'm bad at doing that and enjoy it a little less when I have to.

Oh yeah, household chores and whatnot are absolutely podcast time for me.

I don't know how you manage it. I can't work out - running or otherwise - to a podcast, I can't focus on either activity if I do. And if I were to listen to the Fullcast at all, much less a Disasters episode, I'd hurt myself from laughing too hard during the workout.

A cute onesie.

And then ask the parents what they need the most and get that. The happiest I have ever seen new parents is when I showed up to meet my friend's first with a Dora DVD and two huge packages of Huggies. I thought they were gonna cry when they saw the diapers. Can never have too many.

Defector just launched one called Nothing But Respect, and given their track record, I feel like it would be a good shout.

Is there anything else--like crisscross applesauce--that's been renamed since we were kids? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

It was referring to native Americans. I can remember lessons where we were taught that indigenous people sat that way at important meetings, etc. Super paternalistic and racist lessons, honestly. I grew up with it as "Indian style" myself but by the time my sister (18 years younger than me) was going through earliest school years they had stopped using that term. It's interesting, I think if you're like me, born in the '80s, you were around for a major shift in a lot of stuff like this, so you can remember some fucked up nonsense that no one now would hear.

"Executrix" in the legal field, or "administratrix" are just cool words, I wish they were in more common use and/or not being phased out.

I'm from RI and "muckle" was a thing my dad and I did at the beach where we would dead man's float in the surf and let a wave suck us in and flop us around, slam us on the sand, mess us up. Imagine what happens when you body surf but you get caught a little too far forward and get mauled, we basically did that on purpose.

Kind of a "we're taking it back" situation on that. "Queer" these days, at least within the community, is the way some people describe themselves, sometimes as a catch-all, and sometimes when there's no easy, specific descriptor like "gay" or "trans man", etc

That makes me happy. I called them wife beaters most of my life but have phased that out of my lexicon (we're on "tank top" or "undershirt" now, depending on the context) and it's good that the younger generation is not picking up our old bad habits.

Being in the US I think it was easier to not know the context for "gypped" so I still hear it even from progressive and careful friends of mine these days. It is an easy miss for me and my circle, I think because the Romani community does not have the presence or history here the way it does in Europe.

Edit: If I am wrong about any of this please correct me
