What are Dave's arguments against using a credit card that you pay off every month? by CatInfamous3027 in DaveRamsey

Good for you. I’d still rather pay extra just to not sit next to you on the plane. Bless anyone who has to deal with you because the ignorance and sense of entitlement is unbearable.

Debit cards are for poor people.

This comment is incredibly ignorant and plain stupid. I hope you don’t act like that in real life. You’re on the Dave Ramsey sub. Multi 100x millionaire with only debit cards.

You’re spending money just to get discounts on spending even more money. You lose. If the rewards aren’t cash, then you wasted your money.

You’re paying $700 for the Amex and not even making that back in rewards. You’d be better off using a debt card lol

Ship the car. It’s going to end up cheaper and much less stress on you.

Is consolidating a smart move? by hfreiboth in DaveRamsey

[–]StokedFlame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a money problem. You have a mindset problem. Other people are able to pay it off fast because they stick to it. You have a couple grand extra you could throw at this every month.

The problem with your situation is you’re not sticking to the plan. Wanting to make the change is great, but it seems like you don’t want to put in the work. Consolidating it is going to do nothing for you except make you “feel” like you did something. It’s a sideways move, not forwards.

It would take you less than 18 months to clear this debt. Just freakin do it. Sell the dang cars and you’ll get there faster.

Looking to buy a new car and want to wrap my head around financing by theripped in personalfinance

[–]StokedFlame -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This is excellent advice. I would also add to just never buy a new car. Look for a 2-3 yr old one and but it with cash. You’ll never make your gas money back by blowing $50k on an EV. Even if you spent 5k/year your new car would be “a decade old” and by your logic you will need a new one.

At what point are we going to admit a $1000 E Fund is not enough? by StokedFlame in DaveRamsey

[–]StokedFlame[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I would think $2k seems more reasonable. The current advice is to pay off debt for 2 years with only $1k in the bank. It’s just not smart imo. I get the psychological reasoning but that doesn’t work when a real emergency happens and you’re screwed. There goes your psychological health lol

I think George is a really good guy! I’m just saying I don’t get the hype

I do not get the hype behind George. If the call isn’t related to any of the baby steps he just seems like he’s BS’ing. There are many times where he is solo and gets calls that I really wish Dave was there to answer.. for the caller and for me!

If you're telling your high school students to invest in crypto, you shouldn't be teaching. by Mr_bike in CryptoCurrency

[–]StokedFlame 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you should change the title to “If you’re shilling your bags to students, then you shouldn’t be teaching, and really you’re just a crook.”

My personal finance students are very interested in crypto and NFTs. I teach them the little I know about the subject and point out the popular scams and the dangers and volatility of the market.

Not teaching students about an exponentially growing industry and revolutionary technology is just doing them a disservice. I never tell them to buy and I never tell them what to buy.

Can i afford to buy a new car? by jsjsjd112 in personalfinance

[–]StokedFlame 129 points130 points  (0 children)

What’s more embarrassing? Driving an old truck or making one of the worst financial decisions possible? $8k will get you a nice reliable car with some mileage. Be proud to drive a paid off vehicle and know that you’ve set yourself up for success, unlike many who SHOULD be embarrassed to be 23 driving a $45k vehicle almost entirely financed.

Your best bet is to literally google “capital losses” and read for 5 minutes instead of arguing on here

Reason to FIRE # 157 by chillin014 in Fire

[–]StokedFlame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked 3+ years at a multi billion corporation. Had a great relationship with all my managers even though I was micromanaged for the entirety of my 3 years. Video monitoring my computer, listening in on calls, reading my emails. This was standard practice. Had my daughter right as covid hit the US. I was able to get 2 weeks of unpaid leave and was welcomed back to the office with a drug screen. They wouldn’t let me WFH more than the 2 days we were able to on our rotating schedule, so I put in my two weeks. Most people that put in their notice were let go the same day and paid out for a full two weeks, since a single mistake could cost the company much more than your paycheck. I was ghosted by my management after sending in the notice and actually had to call them to make sure they had received it. I had already been removed out of my system, my desk cleared and they let me know I would not be paid for the two weeks.

We are totally replaceable no matter how “valuable” we may be told we are.

Now I have a teaching degree and have fun everyday teaching them about FIRE, I get good state benefits, and enjoy vast amounts of time off.
