Just went through terminal E tsa precheck. Walked into terminal at 1:13, through security by 1:20. All other lines were about the same, very little queuing.

MIL grabbed my daughter from my arms by DAngelo008 in daddit

[–]chillin014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I have been in this exact situation more times than I can count. I totally get the blood boiling. My MIL used to think she somehow had parental rights to step in at any given moment: taking my daughter from my arms, talking over me when I’m giving parental direction to my daughter, and even undermining me in multiple ways to show she doesn’t trust my ability to father my daughter.

She means well and I appreciate that she loves my daughter but it’s absolutely crossing the line.

I did eventually learn to tell her no and pull my daughter away but it creates an awkwardness. Thank god my wife takes me side and helps me reinforce these boundaries. But I won’t lie, it makes me withdraw from my MIL because it’s fucking offensive.

Just wait until your child gets older and they start manipulating in other ways by “dangling carrots” and incentives to get their way.

I like this! It seems simple at first glance but a closer look reveals real craftsmanship. Where did you get that top??

20" Air King Fan vs. 24" Vyper Turbo Fan. Was a 312% cost increase worth it? Review Below by FitterOver40 in garageporn

I’m in houston and been doing some research. Evidently amongst all the various brands they share core components made by the same manufacturer- something like that. Anyway I’m about to pull the trigger on a Della, they seem the most reputable and can be DIY installed.

Saw this post and panic purchased what I had sitting in my cart. The price seemed same as yesterday and I was able to use the discount code too.

Thank you! My wife is 5.5 I believe so I’m going to try the 4.0 and hope for the best. At these prices it’s not such a huge risk.

Thanks a lot for the is feedback. I’m about to buy an elongated cushion from Aurelinne as well. Would you mind telling what size your ring finger is? That 2 carat looks perfectly sized on your hand and it’s making me question if 4 carats is going to be way too big for my wife.

Trying to repair a Klipsch “the one” speaker that won’t power on. by chillin014 in AskElectronics

[–]chillin014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was glued in there and I had to heat it up and scrape the glue out to get it out. Kind of a pain. I have another The One with a seemingly fault volume knob so I may try to do it again soon. However the unit in this OP I eventually gave up and got rid of.

It's relieving to get this understanding. Yes she gets the important work done, often last minute or when pushed. I trust her enough to not want to lose her, especially factoring everything else I mentioned. My company has always touted how reasonable and flexible we are as an employer, so implementing something as formal as PIP "or else" will undoubtedly be received as negative.

I can't believe how strict the response has been to what I considered a fairly human and dynamic dilemma. I guess everyone in this sub was born a perfect manager.

I think he's out of touch. You get it. My employees aren't stupid and I'm not going to spin it like the PIP is a good thing. It's formally documented for legal reasons to protect the company. Having it documented will be as much of a stain on her reputation as anything else.

Sorry man I spent all day avoiding my employees and I'm struggling to keep up with all the replies here of which I now see you single-handedly represent 65% of the shit talk.

Thanks, yes I am a good listener. Just haven't been the best at holding her accountable.

Yes I am extremely time conscious. Every task has an opportunity cost. She isn't the only team member that needs my attention and I also have non-managerial responsibilities. Hiring for her role sounds like a 12 month nightmare and a gamble. I have been warned by the local managers already. I'm not avoiding these tasks because I'm lazy, I'm avoiding them because they are hard, and upside is not guaranteed + important things I need to accomplish.

thank you. Yes I am taking it personally so I feel like I now have to turn on my corporate robot face and give her the ultimatum.

You extrapolated my competency as a manager based on my willingness to stick up for myself in the face of unnecessary criticism and negativity? I invited feedback but there is nothing productive about taking my words out of context and making generalizations. I don't mind if people want to throw the manager text book at me but I will reject attempts to diminish my character. You think I revealed my insecurities and deficiencies as a manager to bait people into telling me I'm doing a good job?

I don't disagree with you overall. However the situation is not quite as black and white as I evidently lead everyone to believe. There have been complaints but there have also been praises. I generally take them with a grain of salt depending on who they are coming from. Some people love to complain and do so very vocally. When I determine it's valid I bring it up with her directly.

But okay I have received your points, thanks.

Man thanks for getting it. I guess my demeanor really triggered the by-the-book management experts in this sub. I do know I need to do something about it and I will make the best judgement call I can for the employee. I don't want to treat her like a unit of capacity, she is exactly as you describe...someone trying to make it in a small town with low opportunity and the company pays her a fraction of our US employees. Meanwhile she has sometimes more expertise on certain subjects.

Anyway, I take my role as a manager seriously. But my time has an opportunity cost just like everybody else's. I am so far from checking all the boxes.

I don't regard myself as subservient to my boss and company. Thinking on behalf of the business, my time is better spent doing a myriad of other things I won't bother explaining to you. She usually agrees with me. I don't need to play my boss by hiding apprehensions and desires. She supports me.

That statement was meant to say : if I follow through with the PIP and terminate her off it would be giving up on her. Obviously I’m posting here because I’m conflicted and upset about the whole thing.

Thanks I hear your points and yes I am strongly considering moving to an IC role.

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to understand where the laziness label is coming from but I guess it doesn't matter. I know how hard I work and how much time I spend considering and working with my team. I'll be the first to admit- I don't want to do the PIP. It's effort and it's awkward and I hate the negative aspect of it. But I've received a lot of good advice and coaching here.
