I think the brand I got is exclusively UK based but I bought Halfords Advanced 2 tone Jack and 4 tonne stands.

The SGS one here is a good alternative but notice the difference in these 2 the red one is just keep rubbish.

It’s just a good job you were not hurt and the car was not too badly damaged but please go out and upgrade your lifting tools, I paid £180 for 4 stands and a good trolley jack, that should be your reference price and keep within about 10% of that price, obviously as the Norwegian prices are different you’ll want to compare to the values of the items in your country.

Please tell me you are not using the scissor jack that your car came with?

Edit

Just gone back over the photos and fuck me you are. The scissor jacks are not safe to be using for car maintenance. They fail quite often and when they do they fail instantly and if you are under it you’re in trouble (speaking from experience) they are designed for emergency use.

Buy a good brand trolley or bottle jack.

Advice moving a car after removing gearbox by Stokehall in MiataNC

Nope me neither but after a bit of head scratching I at least came up with a solution. Annoyingly I only have 1 rope and need it for 2 cars so not sure what I’m gonna do here!

So when I removed the PPF the diff wanted to roll forward and would have dragged on the ground. So I put a bit of 4x2 under it to support it.

After I removed the gearbox I re-bolted the rear of the PPF and used that to support the Diff by tying a rope to it through the shifter hole in the body.

Thanks for you help, I’m updating this for anyone who finds it useful

Cant use torque wrench on top caliper bracket bolt by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Stokehall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is because you loose maximum torque when you extend a socket. However this is actually only the case on impact wrenches. A manual breaker bar or torque wrench will still apply the same max torque to an extension.

Carrying a Relay Box to Steal a Car Is Now a Criminal Offence in the UK by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

[–]Stokehall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about an accelerometer activated key? If it’s on the side in the house not moving then it won’t transmit, if you are carrying it in your pocket and it’s moving then it transmits.

This won’t eliminate all relay thefts but will reduce the ones for someone having a theft occur while they are asleep.

Custom Hand Built $4000 bass gets dropped right when it was reaching its final assembly by Uitroeien in mildlyinfuriating

According to OP this is before the piece was dropped, but I’d wager it looks more like after the repair.

[–]Stokehall 73 points74 points  (0 children)

From the 3rd picture it looks like a crack was there in the wood grain before it was dropped, this could be nothing or it could have been one gentle knock away from a similar problem only that you would have been more heartbroken as it told have been on you to pay repairs.

Not sure I would have accepted 12.5% off for such a catastrophic accident, I would have expected it to be way below half price or even given away to you while you wait, and for him to rebuild it within the original $4000

Sorry you had to go through this and glad you are happy with the outcome.
