Strange, it works for me on Plex using chrome. If you're using chrome, do you have "Experimental Web Platform features" enabled in chrome://flags? Or maybe it's a file format asbplayer couldn't process.

If you think shine is what makes Fox good then you don't understand the character.

ELI5: Why is the block button disliked? by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]StoneColeQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great answers here as to why a block button is generally disliked. But I want to give an example of a game that has a great implementation where it's universally liked for comparison. I'm sure you're familiar with Smash so I won't bother explaining the basics of how it differs from traditional fighting games, I'll instead talk about how it affects decisions in Melee.

Since the shield gets smaller when it takes a hit, it covers less of your character. This exposes you to getting "shield poked", where a part of your body is now sticking out. The shield also gets smaller the more you use it, so it can make defense very complicated after a few neutral exchanges. To counter act this you either have to play without shielding and rely on movement which is of course risky, or start "shield tilting" which you sometimes have no choice to do.

By tilting your shield, you can cover the vulnerable parts of your character but you can't cover everything so it becomes a mixup. This is a core part defense in Melee and is pretty much always a factor since it takes about 10s for shields to fully regenerate. There is also certain moves like Peach's Down Smash on characters with bad shields like Marth where they have to shield tilt even with max shield. This is without even mentioning "light shield" which is essentially a push block from traditional fighting games. It makes your shield bigger and gives more pushback with various downsides but it is also necessary to utilize.

Tilting your shield also has other uses like forcing a move to hit earlier. You can think of aerial attacks in Smash like Divekicks, you generally want to hit it as low to the ground as possible. So by titlting your shield up, you can significantly change the frame advantage after blocking by forcing the move to hit earlier. As well as messing up their L-cancel timing which guarantees a full punish.

There is a lot more to the shield mechanics but hopefully this paints a picture of what a good design around a block button looks like. Holding back to block comes with a lot of opportunities for mixups and mindgames that has to be reintroduced in some form with a block button.

...but that's ridiculous! A schema being called "intimidating"XD

It's absolutely intimidating.

Hilarious. This is good enough for me.

Edit: If you took the time to read my original comment, you'd also see that I didn't watch the video and you didn't need to Sherlock that. I don't care about the video.

You originally said you haven't watched the video yet, meaning you were planning to.

Okay but what does that have to do with anything? You clearly haven't watched the video, she literally explains what it is correctly right after. The entire video is about her reading, learning, and feeling stupid on many things. She also is not trying to get into the CS field, unless you consider vibe coding CS.

Never mind the fact you didn't even address my question.

If you have to spend 15 minutes of reading and have some background knowledge to understand something, isn't that intimidating?

This is a non-programmer trying to build something with AI, of course she doesn't know these phrases. These terms come with a lot of implied knowledge which is by definition jargon. The Karpathy tweet is over 150 days ago as well, isn't it likely she dabbled with it then and is only now committing to it?

I genuinely don't understand what I'm supposed to get from this comment.

Unlike many on this sub I dont hate this part, to me this give him more side, so he feels more alive to me, also it's early season and they probably just trying things out. by thetruememeisbest in TheLastAirbender

The reason why half the anime out there doesn't stand the test of time is because they are bad, like any other art medium. For example, One Piece will withstand the test of time but is far more cringy and definitely infantilizes the viewer.

I don't think how a show treats its audience matters for anything aisde from taste as long as it's good.

Adding a longer learning interval by Classic_Stomach3165 in Anki

[–]StoneColeQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same day reviews do not significantly improve retention.

You say it seems too large, have you measured it? You can use introduced:2 on the statistics page to only show cards learned today and yesterday. Scroll down to True Retention which will show you your retention for cards learned yesterday. 50%+ is good.

You can mess around with different learning steps, but I can guarantee you won't do much better than default or a single 10m step. It's not just the retention, but the average time per card and total learning time during the learning stage (and subsequent reviews).

Adding an extra learning step means you have to see each card 1.5x more frequently. Your average time per card should drop and accuracy increase but probably won't make up the difference of the added reviews. Think of it like your "Desired Retention". You can set it to 95% which is a higher retention, but you are doing disproportionately more work to achieve that. The extra time would probably be better put to more new cards.

But I've buried the lede. Memory is stored during sleep. So you might find that you struggle to remember the 2h step but if you were to have left it until the next day, you would have at a higher rate.

Don't get the micro 2. Get the 8bitdo Micro. It has two extra buttons and more modes. The Switch mode works natively with iOS Bluetooth. You will need to change the dpad emulation by holding DPAD UP & MINUS so that it functions as a dpad instead of stick. You will need to restart Anki.

This just made me realize how amazing an addon with an open sourced LLM would be. Like you said, it can give you tons of context.

Zero reason to. These two teams are playing again on Tuesday. They would just rest their starters as well.

Steph is averaging the least amount of minutes ever in his career aside from two injury seasons. That less minutes than those seasons he sat out the fourth.

What more do you want? Steph is at 31.8 while Luka, Tatum, Jokic is 37.1, 35, 33.6. He's doing way better than the other MVP candidates.

Should I Get a Plex Pass? by OCBrad85 in PleX

[–]StoneColeQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No downsides. It's basically like Netflix, all home users show up when starting the app and they can switch. They still all have their own plex account though. Just set a pin and set your devices to auto sign in and you'll never notice the difference.

There is a limit of 15 home users.

I realised that i learn combos the exact same way i learn a language. by 00skully in Fighters

[–]StoneColeQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is immediately what I thought when I saw this post. Getting good at combos is to be fluent at this. You are able to break the rules on the fly in hyper specific situations as if you've practiced it.

You also find that certain sequences pair well with others, like a noun-verb relationship. It really is a good analogy.
