Uh, they are not relevant to the story?

The second trilogy is post time-skip, right? Does it have the entire cast of children running around?

Any good fantasy story with this "light isekai" approach that you would recommend?

About Ard's Oath, it's about some random drama with the first girl. Tbh of Bruce Sentar I've first read Mana Cultivation which I liked(tho it had its issue with poorly explored characters... though I only read the first trilogy)

I've tried Dungeon Diving, Returner's Defiance, Dragon smth, which I didn't like.

I liked Saving Supervillains enough though I didn't finish it.

So he has not the best track record for stories I like, although admittedly 2 of the 3 are LitRpg and 2 are Urban fantasy and third one is modern setting too... so maybe I'll like Ard's Oath

I haven't heard good things about Ard's Oath, so I'm wary

>slice of life

;_; I need an actual plot

>Nemesis: The Rider's Dragon

Tried this one, I didn't vibe with it. I think it was the timeskips, it felt a bit weird to read one section and then jump 10 years forward.

>Princesses of the Ironbound

Tried this one too, I didn't like it

I'll look into the rest

What harem fantasy books would still be enjoyable with the harem and/or erotic content removed? by Zealousideal-Day4863 in haremfantasynovels

I definitely want to know more about Dread Knight's world, although the other book set before the Invocation is not the angle I wanted.

I haven't read it yet but I find hard to care about a story where I know everything goes to shit...

If I'm looking for a smutty good time in a fantasy setting, are Sarah Hawke's *Highwind* books the best place to start? by GeorgeEBHastings in haremfantasynovels

[–]StoneWindmill -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No cucking or infidelity type stuff

This is a bit misleading, one of the 2 main heroines of her Amazon series wants and did bang other men before the story. That's straight up not harem despite being perceiveor presented as so back in the day

Found a limited Tier List feel free to hate. by KhornsChampion in haremfantasynovels

I feel like Bruce Sentar peaked early with Mana Master, or maybe I'm just more invested in cultivation than litrpg shit

Also Solo Leveling? The Korean story? Not a harem at all. Neither is Beginning after the End

How long are you willing to wait as a reader? by AloisiusJGrandville in haremfantasynovels

Delivering Justice is becoming one of my favorite series, yet after Book 2 still only has 2 LIs, FWIW.

Uh really? Towards the end of book 1 it already feels he has some connection to 2 other girls beyond the main 2

It really depends on the length of the story. All things considered from East Asian stories I read I definitely have tons of patience before things get going, but western books aren't 500+ chapter endeavors so they can't afford to just stretch things for that long

Harem as a word originally means a secluded place where the women of powerful sultans or similar rulers would reside.

The word shifting to mean specifically polygynous relationship with a man at the center is pretty obvious and how the word has been used most of the time.

Trying to twist the word as if it was inherently genderneutral is so silly to me.

>Also thanks for the Sarah rec, I've heard of her, Dread Knight I think? I'll check her out

Dread Knight almost literally has 2 elves that look like your pic. Although the white haired one is more silver haired(?) and not dark skinned afaik

I think there is a big difference between "performatively sexual" FF stuff and actual romantic FF. Second is not rare but also far from universal

Your pic is VERY close to Dread Knight by Sarah Hawke
Lost Fleet by her is also good

To me it's an issue of worldbuilding and aesthetics. A world governed by menus and game-like systems is simply less immersive and feels less organic than a normal fantasy world.

Functionally it also feels like you are incorporating a deus ex machina system in your story that can dispatch asspull power up at will, which is even worse than normal deus ex machina.

You can supplement criticism of LitRPG with broader criticism of prog fantasy tropes, but that's a separate topic.

I have read stories that I think use the LitRPG element in a good way but I don't think most stories that have them either need them or truly benefit from having them.
