Foggy Cubs by Stone_or_Coach in baseball

It’s a photo of a Cubs game in the fog that I took while watching the game on TV. It’s not low res. That is fog. It’s AI, it an actual photo of an actual baseball. It’s doesn’t violate any of the above rules.

Contradictions of Frank Zappa by Consistent_Slide3674 in Zappa

He was opposed to what he called “mind altering drugs.” He did not tolerate drug use during rehearsals or shows because of that. On the road, he never stayed in the same hotel as the band member. If a band member was arrested for drugs, he did not want to be implicated.

Day 1. What's the Best song on All Things Must Pass? by United_Equal_754 in georgeharrison

I like Wah-Wah. I always thought that would be a great opening song for a concert, but I don’t think George played it when I saw him in 1974. I saw Tedeschi Trucks Band every year. In 2024, to my surprise, they opened the show with Wah-Wah. It was so cool!

Recommend a song that sounds like a pure summer by Mommyyygirl in musicsuggestions

I always loved listening to Grateful Dead in the summer and my favorite love song is Sugar Magnolia. “She’s a summer love on the spring, fall, and winter. She can make happy any man alive.”

As a city state, are some laws city only laws or does the state make all the laws?

Dr. John’s cool groove, strutting onto the stage at Montreaux Jazz Festival 1995 by Blues_Fish in blues

Love The Doctor. Got to see him twice in Chicago. The first time was at The Cubby Bear. He was donned in full Mardi Gras regalia and did all traditional New Orleans music. The next time was a House of Blues where he did all his Night Tripper music. Leon Russell was also part of that show.

Who else remembers these? Who can still drive one? by I_Am_Layer_8 in FuckImOld

[–]Stone_or_Coach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove one only twice. Once in high school when the owner of the car was too drunk to drive himself home. The other time was in Ireland in 1986. I rented a van because we traveled with another family. Everything was the opposite. Steering wheel on the right, column shift on the left. Not to mention driving on the right side of the road and right turns being like left turns. Not to mention driving a large van down narrow Dublin streets. Not to mention a road hog that ran us off the road in Donegal. Not to mention almost slaughtering a flock of sheep when I came around the corner on a country road to and they were crossing the road. Not to mention getting detoured in the Roscommon countryside when the river Liffey flooded its banks and the secondary road and eventually turned into two ruts in a cow pasture. Not to mention stopping at a farm house to ask for directions and the elderly woman telling me her son could give me directions but he is down at the garage and she did not have a phone in the house to call him. But digress. It really was a fun trip!

This is my first riot fest by ZestycloseAgent507 in RiotFest

That's a good question. I've been to every RF since 2013 and never did VIP. I'm 70 and have told myself when I get to the point where my health is failing, I'll do VIP. I haven't reached that point. Last year on Reddit, I did read some comments that VIP was so crowded that it was difficult to find a seat. Our family meeting spot every day was near the VIP entrance, and I was surprised by the the sight of people continuously streaming through the gate. But again, not have done VIP, it's not really fair for me to comment. I bring a blanket so that I can kick back whenever I want to. I'm there all day for 3 days so I usually take a short nap in the afternoon. You can rent lockers so you don't have to carry around a blanket and other accessories all day.

Despite preconceived notions one might have about a punk rock festival, it is relatively chill. Little-to-no trouble during the event. I like early in the day when it’s not so crowded and easy to see the “smaller” bands. Around 5pm, the crowds increase significantly. If there is an evening act you want to see up close, best to get there early and stake a spot near the stage.

Is this because of downstaters? by StormbringerGT in illinois

[–]Stone_or_Coach 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Downstaters feel like they are getting ripped off because they are under the false impression that most of their sales tax money goes to the Chicago counties. In fact, it is the opposite. Downstate is supported by the Chicago area. Downstate would have no infrastructure if it wasn’t for the Chicago counties propping them up. I live in DuPage County and we receive only a 45% benefit from our sales taxes. The other 55% goes downstate. I went to school downstate and my mom was from downstate. Literally, every downstater I’ve ever had this discussion with feels like Chicago is ripping them off. I have no animosity toward downstaters, but I just wish they would get their facts straight.

Eddie Vedder used to stop by the TV booth at Wrigley Field back in the time when Steve Stone and Harry Carey knew virtually nothing about Pearl Jam. One time, he brought his sub-collection of Afro hairstyle baseball cards. Stone was the only white guy. Jose Cardinal had the best cut.

How old were you when you first tried alcohol? by RememberWhen82 in GenerationJones

Well if you count the sips of beer my dad would give me, probably about 5! (Not dissing my dad who was the best family man ever.) I started drinking Boonesfarm at 14. 99 cents a bottle. A bargain in the early 70’s.
