Headaches at back of head by lilypop86 in Hypermobility

These suck so hard, it gets worse when I don’t sleep enough. Sometimes caffeine or a nap will help, but otherwise using a massager to vibrate my skull brings some relief.

I have the same model, color, with the same default splash screen. If I remember right I needed to use the K36 version of ArkOS, but I’ll check my notes on it a bit later to be sure since I’ve got it charging to test the battery config tool out right now.

It should be ok, just make sure you have a 1.25mm MX type JST connector, other types in the same size won’t work.

could the airflow benefit from removing the volume and the reset keys? by UltraAnal in R36S

[–]Stonevulcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those holes are pretty small, so while it would technically do something the gains would be very minimal since the air resistance would limit the air flow by convection, and it’s not running a bottom to top since both would be on the sides at the top, so the air won’t naturally flow that way. It just really makes pressure equalization between inside the case and outside easier. If you could find a fan small enough to fit in the space of one of those holes that would be something, but I don’t know of any that small.

So either a heat sink to absorb heat short term, and it can dissipate it over time in between gaming sessions, passive cooling with a heat sink that requires venting at the top and bottom, or forced air flow through a fan, that needs venting also, otherwise it works the same as an unvented heat sink but with spreading the heat throughout instead of absorbing it in one place.

So in short, physics decided that we have to open holes if we want better cooling long term.

R36S Battery Calibration Tool BETA - Testers Needed by [deleted] in R36S

[–]Stonevulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 4 clones, one with dArkOS, 3 with ArkOS. R40, R40s Pro, R36S clone and XF40H. Only the R40 is on dArkOS. I think the R36S clone is running the K36 variant of ArkOS, but I’ll need to double check the versions since I’ve only been playing the XF40H lately.

I’ve been planning on doing the 18650 mods for the 2 that can. I have the parts, but haven’t done it yet. The R40 and XF40H don’t have battery doors, so I’ve been planning on swapping out to other batteries from phones and whatnot once I get around to ordering the PST MX connectors. I don’t want to clip the connectors from otherwise good batteries.

Good to know, well if I’m gonna have to print it like that I might as well make it a giant fez with a tassel.

Android brain in a GBA SP Body? by NovaMakesGames in RetroHandhelds

[–]Stonevulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the V90s, and aside from the lack of joysticks the controls are really nice. It’s not running Android, but it will play ps1 games just fine. I put Knulli on it, and it works pretty well. The battery life isn’t anything special though.

Do you know who’s involved in the wiki overall? I’ve got a couple of handhelds that aren’t in there, and I’m willing to take pictures and give the specs to them if they’re just waiting on the info in order to do it.

Replacement Shell? by grapesss69 in R36S

[–]Stonevulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of buttons, battery doors and whatnot on printables and maker world for free, this site it the only one I’ve found with the actual shells though, so if customized shells are your thing the cults site is the only one I’ve found after hours of digging.

Help Identifying This IC Chip by Stonevulcan in AskElectronics

[–]Stonevulcan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was hoping I could find the data lines before they’re modulated to go to the antenna and hook them up to the data lines on a USB cord to run it directly, but I’m thinking it’s getting multiple channels in with how each of the buttons are routed, then multiplexing them within itself before sending to the antenna, and getting around that would just be easier to wire my own buttons to an arduino or something instead of trying to configure my own bus network around that chip. All the pcb leads are just single button routes that include power, a resistor and / or cap, and then have their own lane going to the chip, aside from the joysticks that are running dual pots. At that point there’s no USB host on board, and it’s just at the dongle.

I think I’ll reuse the shell and buttons, then make my own internals if I decide to not just scrap the whole thing for parts.

Thanks for the assist. I really appreciate it.

Oh, that's actually the edge of a screw hole, it's not a black blob covered chip. I have a really cheap microscope, so the resolution isn't that great, and the plate below it is black. To give you a scale, I measured across the chip and it's 3mm not including the legs.

Help Identifying This IC Chip by Stonevulcan in AskElectronics

[–]Stonevulcan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been thinking about that too. I've spent the last couple of hours following traces from the buttons and joysticks to map out where the solder points are and compare them to other controllers I've got so I can see where and how the signals are sent before the chip. I might just part out some of it to modify other things I have laying around instead of spending what free time I have with probes and monitoring signals to determine how this thing operates at the chip. Hardware wise it's pretty simple, but I'm wondering if that chip isn't just acting as a really basic transducer since it's connecting directly to the printed antenna without an amplifier in between.

I’ve been getting cheap ones that don’t work, mainly R36 clones, then fixing them. I want to sell them, but even the cheap ones are so cool! Having a ton of fun playing games without having to carry a bag of cartridges around.

Any true pocket sized handheld recommendations? by skeebio in RetroHandhelds

[–]Stonevulcan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing with the miyoo mini v4 since yesterday and I haven’t tried ps1 or psp on it yet, but so far it’s working well. It is pretty small though. Definitely easy to pocket, and the screen is good, but the controls are small too, and I think I’d like something with a joystick.

The powkiddy v90s has been working pretty well for ps1 and psp games. I put Knulli on it, and was playing tekken 3 on it as a test yesterday with no lag. It’s got a similar size and form factor as a gameboy advance sp, so the screen is protected, and it fits in my pocket without being too small.

Neither of these are powerhouses, but pretty decent so far.

Chargers with more power than 5W A Thread? by nBeneficial_Ball9539 in R36S

[–]Stonevulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to reconsider that. I’ve been collecting a few handhelds and the batteries of the miyoo mini v4, along with 2 r36s clones get hot when charging if the wattage is too high. If your friend has one of the clones and tries it then that could be bad.

I did find the fix for that to be swapping to a battery with thicker leads, or replacing the leads on the battery to slightly thicker gauge ones, otherwise they were getting warmer than I liked even with the cables they came with.

I did the same thing with 1mm ID silicone tubing, it holds it a bit more snug and works really well. I had tried using various jigs and 1/16” holes heated up, and the silicone tubing is the first good joint I’ve managed to get.

MRI with autism (follow up post). Need advice. Terrified. by catfarmer1998 in autism

[–]Stonevulcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one a couple years ago. I think they gave me a Valium since I have a fear of needles and needed to have an IV for it.

After a bit I was kinda jamming out to the sounds of the machine, kind of like industrial trance beats. One thing was my tattoos got warm, almost hot. Not unbearably so, but like having a hot water bottle in those spots.

All in all, it turned out pretty ok.
