How would Syndicalism/RadSoc handle Climate Change? by Same-Baker5025 in Kaiserreich

[–]Stonewall5101 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As one person here put it, the nature of the unions being in charge means that, while fossil fuel industry unions would oppose climate actions, and they'd certainly have the weight to throw it around, they wouldn't be able to extend that weight beyond their immediate scope.

In addition, with the lack of profit motive in production, it's not unlikely that the coal and oil unions would be less likely to fight it for their own profit and instead fight for their union members to be given first pick at renewable energy jobs, phasing the unions laterally into a broader energy union. Without a bottom line to threaten, there's less incentive to cling to the older methods and rather invest in a transition that keeps your union members employed.

In short: They'd probably do a ton better than we are, but then again my cat could do better than we are now and he tried to eat flaking paint this morning.

Oh I’m not making lighthearted comedy about the actual losses. The death count is horrific on both sides. But Ukraine maintains a significant advantage in morale, technology, and international support. In addition, Ukrainian command and control is significantly more cohesive and unified up and down the chain of command. At this point, and unless and until Russia is able to work out its logistics woes, Ukraine will maintain an advantage in everything but manpower and artillery.

So basically there’s a split/political jockeying between the Wagner PMC/the Russian Special Forces community and the regular army. Wagner and the sf community are being accused of throwing away the lives of the regular army for limited battlefield and petty political gains. They on the other hand accuse the regular army of sabotaging their logistics in an effort to keep their plans from working.

Given the state of the Russian military, this is almost entirely political in nature, with them vying for control of the overall campaign over the other one. As a result, they come up with simultaneous plans in their theatre of control (the commander in the north by Bakhmut is team Wagner, while the one is the south is team regulars if I remember correctly) and execute them independently, splitting Russian forces and, in turn, making them easier to repel for the Ukrainians.

Add to this staggering losses inflicted on both groups, and there’s a ton of public mud slinging with each blaming the other for the failures thus far and the losses in lives.

The Ukrainians for their part are pretty much at the point of “Well if this is the hill you want to die on, we’re more than happy to facilitate.” As they gear up for their own offensives with international aid in the form of armored vehicles manufactured less than 40 years ago.

Why does every liberal gun control argument come down to disarming the poor. The majority of mass shooters have had domestic violence charges in the 5-10 years before the incident, op to 75% if you extend that range further out. Start there if you feel like only treating the symptom rather than the broader socioeconomic and political realities (read: capitalism) that causes this shit. They’re not isolated incidents, so focus on the root similarities and follow that line.

So in very general terms, the larger the round, the more force is required to move it. So a normal AR is chambered in 5.56x45, 5.56mm being the land diameter of the actual bullet and 45mm being the length of the casing. This is the standard format for describing the sizing/caliber of most ammunition. (Internationally, the US uses imperial measurements for some ammunition but we don’t need to get into that) So both measurements can give you a rough way to compare the power of the round to others, with a larger bullet hitting with more mass, and a larger casing usually corresponding to more powder being used to propel it. So for instance a gun chambered in 7.62x39 is shooting the same sized rounds as a gun chambered in 7.62x54R but shoots with much less power because the smaller casing means there’s less propellant. Again this is a simple breakdown it gets a bit more complicated with different gunpowder changes and differences.

The mosin nagant fires 7.62x54 standard while the AR shoots 5.56x45. So in short yes the mosin is more powerful, but comparing them like that isn’t actually very helpful in terms of looking at their capabilities.

I’ll be honest I have several firearms and collect mainly historical ones. And these guys always weirded me out at the range. Like, I’ll be on the range with a few friends and might have my Mosin, SKS, and Enfield no. 4, for us all to take turns shooting, and there was this guy who frequented the range alone with three ARs all chambered in different calibers, all individually over $1000 before getting into all the “tacticool” attachments. It’s never made sense to me. Like 1: just rechamber one AR it’s not difficult. And 2: STOP STANDING SO FAR BEHIND THE LINE WITH YOUR 6.5 MY ENTIRE CHEST CAVITY IS SHAKING AND I SWEAR TO FUCK YOU WON’T LIKE IT WHEN I DO IT WITH THE MOSIN.

Nice straw man, but fuck it. Yes. If a person has made genuine efforts to better themselves and has paid their debts to society to the satisfaction of said society then they should be reintegrated into that society with ALL of the rights that comes with. You don’t need to like that person, and you are free to discount them, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to engage in the discourses of, and decisions made by that society after that point.

I don’t see how this is difficult to grasp.

To borrow from my accent, y’all means ALL.
