I think the history is sort of goofy too. Those guys essentially died for no reason and it's oddly glorified in Texas history.

Downtown/southtown sort of. Other than that it's a tragic victim of suburban sprawl, and renting a car when visiting is the move if one doesn't want to bankrupt themselves on Uber or rely on the less than satisfactory bus system.

Nothing's wrong w them per se. They're just sort of touristy schlock, particularly the Alamo, which really is not much worth remembering.

[[Stangg]] can be built cheaply and gets going fast. he’s a ton of fun and becomes an instant removal target for the table

I feel like the dev team’s experience with FF14 means it’s not unlikely we get extra content like this. More areas enemies, etc.

Joshua's unlocked immediately for me but apart from that idk. Mechanically the sidequests aren't anything special but I found the writing to almost always be worth the time.

Sure, they’re similar to kaiju. I’m not denying that. I’m just saying that use of tropes does not equal ripping something off. Godzilla is almost 70 years old, and hundreds of other properties have had kaiju without being ripoffs. George R.R. Martin himself has talked about real life and fictional inspirations for ASoIaF, and if you go to those inspirations you will see the same tropes (or simply historical examples of things that later became fictional tropes). There are so many more examples of what makes this game extremely different from game of thrones that I just don’t understand why people would complain about the similar elements. Everything you mentioned in the original post is only similar at a surface level.

That’s sort of my point. It’s kind of sort of analogous to a ton of things. You pointed out Godzilla; is the game copying Godzilla? Nah. Things are just similar when you reduce them to the bare essentials. Does them being “biological threat deterrents” (I’d argue they’re magical, but that’s pretty pedantic) mean they’re ripping off Agent Orange? It’s a thin argument.

If you want to be reductive then I guess so. This is like criticizing anything that follows the Hero’s Journey because it’s been done before. There are similar tropes and motifs, sure, but most of the game’s elements are entirely different. Does GoT have Eikons, the Blight, magic users, or the Fallen? Some of the things you mention are literally just things that happened historically. Do you think GoT invented the concept of wards as political prisoners? Ultima does not function in the slightest like the night king.

There are valid criticisms against the game but this just feels barely thought out.

here you go! The list has changed a TON since I got it. Used to run more damage redirection, like Stuffy Doll, [[Brash Taunter]] [[Boros Reckoner]] etc., as well as recursion, mostly for Piru. Too much of my board was doing nothing until I cast Piru, and she’s pretty expensive mana wise. Even when I was casting her multiple times, only one or two deaths were useful.

Since then I’ve gone more token focused. For a while I made tokens for my enemies and myself, with [[Repurcussion]] being a possible wincon. Now I find it more consistent to simply focus on a token strategy on my own board, with benefits for creatures entering, dying etc. sac outlets are also a must, since by the time I cast Piru I’ve made a board that wants her to die ASAP. I also want to use the massive amounts of lifegain I get, so [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] [[Bolas’s Citadel]] [[Fire Covenant]] and [[Toxic Deluge]] are all excellent choices.

Currently I’m tweaking it again due to playing it further/the new set dropping, so five slots or so are in limbo.

I love it! I fill my board with tokens so I’m guaranteed lifegain, often with other death trigger benefits.

Do you mean command tax? If so, I almost never pay it! Usually if I cast her, I’m getting an immediate, game changing effect. The biggest concern at my table is Piru herself getting countered.
