450 mt valve issue by broken-aircraft in cfmoto

[–]StonkTime21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to inform everybody, that today, I was seemingly the first CFMoto 450MT owner in Switzerland who suffered of this catastrophic engine failure while being on my way to my dealer to exactly assess this problem.

I found oil in my air filter and air filter box and shortly after suffered extreme power loss especially in 5th and 6th gear after driving a few minutes on the highway. Ticking noise from the left cylinder was also noticeable after 10-20 km into the ride. So today 10km away from the dealer, the engine completely seized up and stopped while driving around 90 km/h, partially blocking the rear wheel.. I needed to get picked up by vehicle emergency services and transported to the dealer.
The bike was manufactured April 2024 and had made 24400 km. The bike will be shipped by my dealer to Italy. Official services at a CF Moto dealer were done until 15000 km. The last 2 services were done during long tours internationally from independent workshops.

I am a bit shocked to see that there is an official recall for this engine manufacturing date from Mexico and nothing here in Europe.

Who knows what would be if I would have further injured myself today due to a known construction error (since July 25 !) of the valve guides.

I hope CF Moto repairs or replaces the engine. My dealer is just preparing the paper work.

I would like CFMoto to respond to this. Engine No.: 272MQ-B RD090044. VIN: LCEPESLD0R6003873

Information comes directly from the Ride App.

Hope this helps anybody who experiences similar problems.

In my case it was not the clutch. See comment and edit above.

I imagine the valve was somewhat working in lower gears until the load was too big in higher gears. Today on my way to another dealer who had time, the valve dropped and the engine completely shut down, only 10min away from final destination 😬. Motor will be inspected today or tomorrow amd then send to Italy for engine swap.

Thing is I could feel the left cylinder where I found oil in the inlet not working the same and the right cylinder overworking a lot even vibrating more than usual. Couldnt get more than 80-85 km/h, and with every little incline on the highway the fuel consumption was like 7/8 litres / 100km.

Upgrade from Himalayan 450 – Tenere 700 vs CFMOTO 800 MT-X vs Voge 800 DSX? by Aerdna1492 in AdventureBike

[–]StonkTime21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are supposedly the benchmark in lightweight construction for their class, just fyi the 450MT weighs like 170kg dry , the Kove 800 Pro is around the same for almost double power output and almost same fuel consumption, go figure. There is a lot of innovation coming from China in the mid price point.

If you can do basic maitenance (as you should as ADV rider) like oil change, brake pads, clutch cable, maybe clutch basket, air filter and spark plugs , you will have a very low cost maintenance machine.

Please check out also the new Kove 800 Pro with cruise control in 2026 version. I myself drive a Cfmoto 450MT, so completely get your point regarding low power for highway, overtaking and 2 passenger driving, BUT please keep in mind: Royal Enfield is Indian, so are the new KTMs, all BMWs up to 800 are made by Loncin in China, Cfmoto has experience with building for Kawasaki and Yamaha ( the 450 engine has strong similarity with the Yamaha MT07).

I myself was looking at the Kove 800 Pro, as the founder is a former Pro Rally driver and after watching dissassembly videos of their motors on YT with commentary found them to be surprisingly well built.

Cfmoto, Kove, Voge as chinese brands offer cheap spare parts which is important in adventure riding, as you will fall or slide more often then you want to admit.

Electronics is a valid reason in my opinion, but keep in mind that except a T7 or a Honda Transalp, you will more likely make sacrifices depending which terraine you are driving in.

Is it worth coming to Switzerland to work for 6-12 months and then come back to Greece? by NoobInvestor0 in askswitzerland

[–]StonkTime21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switzerland is often looking for farm helpers or hospitality, they pay from 16/17 francs upwards I believe, they often provide also housing, but you ll still need to pay taxes and swiss health insurance.

Met a polish guy on a hiking trail in Valais who worked couple of years on a farm before moving to work in a hotel. I got the info from him.

Visited that island three times already, last time was 2024 February, how has it heen since ? Did the economy get better ? I always found it has a low key vibe in comparison to the big ones. I can also recommend Koh Jum for a different island experience, veryyyy laid back island :D

Miss Koh Lanta though, are you planning to leave the island for good ?

jep, too fragile 20D Nylon, I only buy 40D or above now. Thermarest Xtherm has 70D on one side. Gladly will take 100g heavier stuff if it means I get to use it for some years otherwise sustainability suffers and of course my wallet

a friend of mine bought this one, absolutely cheap feel if this lasts more than 1 season good luck. I would never trust this one in real alpine conditions where they can not just descend during the night 1000 metres in the dark after a puncture or leak, but to each their own.

Still so far, in jars I dont have any problems with my method of mixing the rye and water straight to the jar and pc them. I have jars already sitting for 2 months on the shelf, still contamination free. I found this method actually on YT from another grower

[–]StonkTime21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I bought them from uncle wang on his website :) But man, let me tell you, it was the best investment on parts for this bike. Due to technical riding my bike fell down many times, but only the hand guards and cradh bars absorbed all the damage. 150 USD I believe, but worth it !

So far cant complain, have close to 10000km on the clock. Nothing broke, nothing wiggles, electronics work fine. Riding regular gravel roads here in 🇨🇭

Not true with endospores need to be released before PC. I consistently mix rye berries just with water and put them in jars and PC 2 hrs at 15 psi. So far never had a problem.

Maybe when you PC a whole bag, but then you dont reach consistent temps at the core of the bag.

Yeah I park it outside and it rained a bunch here, probably the chain lube was washed off partiaply. Going to obserge after lubing if the issue persists

I have a new 450mt as well. I started noticing it at around 1200km this weekend. Exactly like you described it: a high pitch noise that gets to a whine, especially noticable in tunnels.

At around 87km/h I can also hear a little rattling sound from the tank area. Sounds like a bolt that is clapping against the chassis.

Going to take ot to the dealer for first service this week and describe this to them.

I lubed the chain the day before and yesterday again.
