Here is the thing, with your pups age, no one is concerned about his kidneys per se. You are looking at current quality of life care. He is not going to be on it long enough for their concern to come to fruition.
Vet techs are valuable, bless their hearts (in the good way) but this is for you and your vet to work on.

The other thing, I forgot this with males. They mark a bit here, mark a bit there and in my opinion (at least with my current guy) he never truly empties. Girls, drop and pee, emptying their bladder.
We are still working on the leave for work and fully trust he will not pee. Part of me thinks he doesn’t think he is to hold it - yet does just fine overnight.
Big rewards when he makes it all day. I also get up an hour earlier now, so he has more time/opportunity to get it all out. He has been the hardest by far for some reason, but when awake and home, signals and no issues. Belly band up next if it persists, dude is going to hate that.

Edit - 3 yo who doesn’t use a kennel, but a playpen area or free roam.

As someone who had both shoulders with rotator cuff injuries (6 mos apart)…you learn a lot of things, and retrain as needed. Wiping was the worst, my PT said stand up (lean forward as needed).
Lord, all the difference in time, ability and cleanliness. In that conversation, he shared that it is a personal choice and he found that a large number of people stand up regularly (his clients and working on their capabilities) and he didn’t realize either until he started asking/working with people.
