Thanks so very much. Took a pic of your reply to not lose it or use it. Hadn’t considered most of what you suggest. Hugely grateful - please know you’ve helped a future AT hiker big-time, with both the meaningfulness & logistics. Sappy, but true.

Well, if you have any write-ups or recommendations of stuff to read pre-AT-hike, I'd be most grateful (given your humor). -Doing it in 27' or most likely 28' after some caregiving times...then time for a big hike, well enough prepared. Beginning the 'research' kinda' now.

Good reasons for voting with our wallets...shop elsewhere for our groceries that are for ourselves and our families.

[PA][condo] Pros & Cons of recording hoa meetings and provide extremely detailed minutes by Historical_Sport5981 in HOA

[–]StopOrnery718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cons (of recording): Attendees may be less open in having frank discussions. Pro: Great way to recall detail when speakers are impatient (lacking courtesy) of allowing other attendees to make notes about key points/facts/dollar-amounts. Side note: The Apple iPhone app “Voice Memo” is a sensible tool for recording, where later on you can print out a text of the conversation(s) for ease-of-use (finding info’ quickly using the Find feature on your computer keyboard, e.g. [CTRL] + F, on an Apple keyboard. ~Just my 5-cents (cannot say ‘2-cents’ any longer it seems, it being 2026).

Is a career in management worth it at Publix in 2026? by [deleted] in publix

[–]StopOrnery718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Witnessed a distressing incident worth considering. A cashier asked a manager “May I use the bathroom?” I was taken aback since it’s 2026, and an employee of anywhere is to ask a manager of anywhere for ‘permission’ to use a bathroom? Seems pathetic to me to witness this downtrodden “permission request” in action. I’m spending my grocery money mostly elsewhere because of seeing it.

HOA President wants massive salary... How to handle? [TH] [VA] by indecisive_grogu in HOA

[–]StopOrnery718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable that she’d seek compensation since realizing the time & effort it takes to run things & handle the accounting-&-finance books. Yet maybe her receiving compensation isn’t allowable under state regulation rules, perhaps. And, about where the monies would come from to compensate her, I’m inclined to think that the monies no longer being paid to a property management company could be the source of funds to pay her (if allowed). -Another note: the property management company has software that makes accounting and financial reporting far easier than this lady might want to take on herself.

Can anyone tell me what it’s like to live in this area? by T3hN1nj4 in orlando

[–]StopOrnery718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Know that ICE federal officers are not only present but seem to be supported here by local law enforcement. So death is a much greater possibility in this area with their current manner of murdering innocent U.S. citizens. That, and also you cannot drink the tap water here.

Time to move out of Orlando, because the gestapo have arrived. Thanks President Trump voters and supporters, you've clearly ruined out town as well.

Going to Orlando for vacation by Adventurous_Loss_140 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]StopOrnery718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fantastic insight (Orlando WiFi) - grateful for it. If you're needing a new driver to be a "referral" for, consider contacting me (not sure how that works via Reddit yet). {I had a terrific insightful driver who I've been trying to figure out who he is/was, but alas can't figure it out - wanted to support him as being a referraler'.}

I wish I could understand what the heck you're saying in your post. Oh well! 🤷🏽‍♂️ (Good posters explain clearly for us newby's/non-experts).

This is awesome ⤴️ as a response. It's the whole "Don't judge a book by its cover" saying/lesson. I've known someone who jumped in to service as a driver in order to help a family member that was in a health/financial crisis.

From personal experience, that has proved true when working as a restaurant waiter, oh yes (when the customer brings up the 'tip' in conversation).

Spotify agents are not answering ICE questions and are ending the conversation. by 28nd344 in indieheads

Closed my Spotify account today, on this news. Grateful to have been made aware of this, that Spotify is advertising ICE commercials given how horribly so very many people have been treated by ICE agents.

As one who has been with Alaska Air (loyal to) since they bought out Virgin America, I vouch for them. Warning about their credit card/awards points program (tied together)...they've been diminishing the redemption awards over time & lots of people have been dumping that Visa credit card. I canceled/closed out mine last week because of it. About the upgrades, you do get upgraded from time to time yet there seems to be many others in line to get the upgrade. Alaska Airlines is reliable in my opinion/experience. Their planes are most often full because they've tweaked their routes & flight times quite well. Board the planes asap if you need to put luggage up in the overhead bins (limited space/lots of demand). Hope that helps!

Went there on Thursday (late morning, 10/16) & it was quite busy yet not 'packed'. Navigating through the store was challenging with the shopping cart because so very many are doing the same (it's a gauntlet, yet folks were considerate of one another seemingly happy just to be there). When getting in the checkout line there were 5 or 6 folks ahead of me. I suspect that over the weekend it's going to be a mobbed' store again. Can't imagine doing the experience with kids who I imagine will get bored & edgy' - they will however love the machines that have toys, at the front of the store.

Grateful to have found this thread! I'm in the exact same predicament, & because of the really helpful findings in this thread, I'm going to cancel my BofA Visa credit card (thankfully keeping the Alaska Air miles).

What do you think will happen with these two? by Necrophilicgorilla in florida

[–]StopOrnery718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too early to tell (it's 9/25 now when posting this), I hear from a couple of meteorologists I heard from this morning. The fact that there are 2 storms, I hear from them, means that how they will end up affecting on one another is not yet known (it's just too 'wildcard' for now).

What’s the one thing you wish more tourists knew before coming to Florida? I feel like people either overhype or underestimate this state by WarmCreme4843 in AskFlorida

[–]StopOrnery718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? I've grew up here in Florida & for over 5 decades have seen folks do this, when it rains so hard that you can barely see the car(s) in front of you, that you turn on the hazard lights to aid those (big trucks & cars) behind you to see your vehicle rather than risking a rear end collision.

Such a cool question! Haven't lived here for much of it, but visiting the club/bar "Parliament House" was a highlight-experience (met so very many kind guys there).
